Carl, Dramarama

Bill, the first full length "Declaration" is full of acoustic stuff, but basically it's very political balls out rock.

The second album "Strength" is pretty much one of the most perfect album ever made. More electric, but just unbelievable songwriting. Still political and very social. There is another hidden message beneath The Alarm that true fans know of, and many others don't pick up on, and it really is what they are all about.

If you can find the first EP, grab it! It goes for HUGE money on eBay though, but is worth it for the version of "Marching On" that is on that.

I am guessing that "Eye Of The Hurricane" might be Raggz fave. It's the third full length, and I don't like it much at all. That album kept me from buying the next two, which is a shame because the fourth album had the great song "Sold Me Down The River", or I think that was the name. But "Eye" was pretty much bad 80's Pop, as displayed in the hit single "Rain In The Summertime". Early Alarm is Folk meets Punk.

she mentioned a song called Sixty Eight Guns but to be honest, i have never heard anything by the Alarm before. I will have to pick some stuff up now.

"Sixty Eight Guns" is off of the first album. It's also the song that you will more than likely hear and go "THIS is The Alarm"!?! If you lived in the 80's, and were connected at all to the underground, you have heard "Guns". If you watch the show tomorrow, I am laying money on it that they do "Sixty Eight Guns" and "Rain In The Summertime". Though I would KILL to hear them do "Marching On", "Deeside" or "Father To Son". Hell, maybe they will actually let them do "Spirit Of '76" which is about a 10 minute song!!!

Give 'em a whirl. They might not be your thing, but I can't imagine you hating them. They were often unfairly compared to U2.

Oh, and back to Dramarama. Check out the VH1 boards to see people confused as to who the hell Dramarama were! LOL!!! I have to admit that when I saw them listed as a show, I was confused as to who the hell would be watching this episode! I didn't know anybody other than myself actually knew who the hell they were! I have NEVER met anybody else who has ever heard of them.

the only thing i have ever heard from dramarama is buckcherry's version of anything, anything.

And to tell you the truth, the Buckcherry version is SERIOUSLY lacking in the energy and attitude of the original. Not a bad version, but hardly as good as the original.

So its not a typo of Bananarama?

That's funny Lycan. Over on the VH1 board, that was the association I made for people. I told them that if they saw that film, it was the work-out tune! LOL!!!

Not the workout tune, bro. That was a different one. Well, I guess there were two different workout scenes in there. This was the one with the kung fu workout (not the weights workout, which was some female singer). Before all the killings started. lol I dunno. There were some cool tunes in that movie but almost none were on the released soundtrack.

DRAMARAMA were totally 70's glam influenced-they covered Mott The Hoople,Diamond Dogs era Bowie,the Faces,Velvets.I rate Easdale above Westerberg probably.Get anything by Dramarama,it'll be good.Rocknroll and pop and anthems and ballads and pop hits.The works. A brilliant,brilliant band. also check out singer JOHN EASDALE'S "BRIGHT SIDE".

GUNS FOREVER THAT'S OUR BATTLECRY!

Carl, this episode of VH1 Reunited was awesome. At first it looked like it wouldnt' happen, but it did and they kicked ass on stage. At the end of the show and message comes up and reads that Dramarama was asked to play a Festival and they agreed to do it except the bassists who refused.
So, just letting ya know that tonights show is awesome.
Can't wait for tomorrow!!!....The ALARM!!!...that one is gonna be great!!!

Don't tell me about The Alarm show at all!!! I don't want to know anything about that one until it plays! I a freak though, I've been acting llike I am actually going to see them tomorrow. I busted out the CD's, and have been getting ready like you normally do when going to a show.

I hit their website though the other day, and I had no idea, but Mike Peters reformed The Alarm! WITH ALL NEW PEOPLE!!! What kind of shit is that? Supposedly they are killer, but ya know, it ain't The Alarm if only one person is an original. I don't care if he was the sole writer, it was those four guys who slugged it out in the clubs. It was the touches that they all made. Ach, fuck it.

you know, my friend (yes singular) would love it here. just the other day she spent like 8 hours messaging me about The Alarm and how i missed out and I should start listening to them NOW. She's turned me on to alot of great music from the 80's that slid by me. I guess I should go and see what this Alarm band is all about.

Funny thing is, I pulled out all my The Alarm cd's too and gave them a spin...LOL!!!
The Alarm has alawys been a fave of mine from the 80's.

Well I too was a Dramarama Fan and finally watched "Bands reunited" tonight to see the show.I'm totally psyched to see The Alarm show as well.

Thanks Pepsi! Yeah, Drama's 70's influence shined through with the footage of them sitting someplace back in the day with the HUGE T-Rex "Slider" backdrop, and the bassist wearing a T-Rex shirt for the reunion show! I want the back drop of "Slider" though, the thing was just monstrous!

I'm not sure I would rate Easdale above Westerberg. Musically Easdale was friggin' great! Lyrically he needed some help, IMO. I know many of his songs need some explanation, but he just has a silly way at times. "Ice Cream Castles" is an amazing song, one of my faves of all time, but what the hell is he talking about? I'm sure with an explanation I would get it, and take away my "silly" tag, but for now, he is a little silly at times. But the voice, and the music he writes are amazing!

Anyway, does anybody else think that with the release of Soul Asylum's "Grave Dancers Union", SA decided to try and become Dramarame? SA had such a brilliant style, and sound, and then with that one album (the one that brought them back from almost break-up), the voice and music changed drastically from what was on "Horse The Rode In On", and actually started to sound a little like Easdale an Co., straight down to the vocals.

I loved both Hang Time & Grave Dancer's by Soul Asylum, but after that he kinda lost me.I concur re [img]tongue.gif[/img] irner seemingly being influenced by JE on Grave Dancers where previously he was more focused on said,"Place-Mats". Personally, I think Drama's silliest song was "Baby Rhino's Eye",JE clearly had some 60's garage band influences too-he could get a little too "Strawberry-Cheer-13th Floor- Watchband" on ya all of a sudden,esp. on the Hollyweird concept album,"Stuck In Wonderamaland"...My fave's were probably "Vinyl" & "Hi-Fi Sci Fi" with Blondie's stellar Clem Burke on the cans.Always thought Clem Burke and Martin Chambers were the most under-rated rock drummers.

Wow, it just hit me as to who I would LOVE to see on this Bands Reunited thingy! By your mentioning "60's garage sound" it made me go back to the band that started that whole damn movement in the 80's! THE LIME SPIDERS!!! What a friggin' killer band, and one I would LOVE to see again!

Never happen, it's too soon. Give 'em 20 more years, and Axl MIGHT step down from his pedestal. The rest of the guys have already said that they would love to do it, if Axl would get his head out of his ass. It still isn't too late for them to regain the throne, but once the new line-up releases the album (if ever), then it will be too late.

<font size="3" face="Arial">But aside from The Raspberries, were any of those bands known for anything? Dramarama confused me, and then I read that they actually did own the West Coast more or less, for a little while. Plus "Last Cigarette" got pretty good airplay.

The Lime Spiders were right on the verge, and then the tide of music changed and they fell behind. But "The Cave Comes Alive" album was pretty popular, and the critics were falling all over themselves for them.
