Combine this and the field coil conversion from Germany....

While it looks like the overlapping seams might add strength/rigidity in a favorable way, i can't help but think that the lack of uniformity in the cone's density would adversely affect it at higher frequencies.

How much room for improvement is there with 515 cones?

At the entry fee i suspect those are well past the point of diminishing returns for the typical Altec enthusiast.

All that said, i'd like to spend some time comparing them to originals.

Hanji paper is very cool and very labor intensive, but the price - ouch!! They do look nice.

Wow, for how much they are asking, I would get the regular 515 paper cones.

I Agree 100%.

Yeah, he's asking about $1600 just for each handmade cone, if you figure his price against the price of a set of new 416. They may be nice, but not that nice.

I agree. In theory, they may be "better" cones, but I'd have to hear/compare them to the originals to see if there is an audible "downside" to them because the originals sound so damn good. I admit I'm skeptical of anyone re-inventing the wheel (and this wheel in particular since it's such a great one). Obviously if I compared them to original Altec or GPA cones and found they didn't sound as good, then they're not just expensive, they're virtually worthless to me......

Please...... Priced themselves right out of the market no matter how good ! I don't think anybody I know would buy them.To put that into perspective.You can buy 13 brand new 416B's or a pair of 288H's + 4 902's + 6 416B's or 5 6048H II's from Bill for that.You could build several systems.I know where I would spend my money first.And it wouldn't be on Hanji Cones !

You would think that he could offer a better price considering the kids in those sweatshops in Korea are only earning about 20 cents a week. Just ask Kathie Lee Gifford!

Ha! Don't you believe it. Korea is the new Japan, all high tech and high rises. Is there any cheap labor left in the South? You have to go to China or Vietnam for that.
