I can't believe how much Clintwood's enrollment has dropped just since I graduated in 95. Now down to 287, 2 more than Burton. With those numbers DCHS would have an enrollment of 663 (probably closer to 600 in actuality).
Noticed Riverheads enrollment went down a lot. How is that?
the decline in student body is pitiful everywhere. Union has as many students as powell valley used to average in the 90's. Clintwood is way down from then too. It seems that more and more people are leaving and also not having as many children. I grew up with families that had 3 to 5 kids and now a days most families are having 1 to 2 kids tops. I know its put a hurting on student body numbers and athelets as well
although quit a few are VERY questionable, the VHSL has released the Sept. 30 ADM's from the state Dept. of Ed., in size order.

Marion missed being A eligible by 3 kids, Richlands missed by 20.
Cave Spring IS A eligible by 13 kids.
Lee is now 13 kids too big for A
Castlewood is down, despite the addition of the St. Paul kids

Here is my question. Lee dropped to A due to acedemic reasons instead of student body so are they going to be able to stay A or do they have to move back to AA with the new realignments?
I remember several years ago there were concerns that D2 Grayson Co was too large to be even in A and now they''re smaller than Union by about 90 kids.
It was my understanding that Lee dropped to A due to the amount of travel that was required to get to their district opponents. I guess that one could assume that with the amount of travel that students (and teacher's that were coaches) had to miss a lot of class for athletics which hurt their academics. Regardless I don't see them having to go back to AA. Lee's enrollment is dropping yearly just like everyone else.Quote:

The Richlands numbers kinda surprise me I was in the high school on the first day of this year and it seemed like kids were every where. I know that the football program has been good over the past several year but how are they in other sports
With the change in numbers.....I think a change in districts would be good for some teams also.

The 4 districts were created mainly to do away with the bye teams get during postseason play in tournaments....now that we have Division 1 and Division 2 in tournaments...I think go back to the three districts.....

Plenty of district competiton.....evened out by enrollment....great for division play.....I like this much better than what we have now honestly. Great rivalries here also.

Wrestlers have had to compete with Grundy & C'burg at Regionals, so that's hard to gage.
