Is it the posting of the CD list & Lyrics on a college newspapers website?
Is this in relation to that thread about the article that leaked some of the TTATS lyrics? If it is then can I just say that I really don't understand why some ppl are reacting to it like it's some sort of breach of top secret government policy.

I think the issue here is copyright and until an album has been officially released people could in theory steal those lyrics and titles and use them themselves. I could be wrong about that, but that's what I understand it to be about.

Well there's obviously some legal issues at stake over this otherwise why would we be asked to sign waivers not to publicly disclose them? Maybe the track listing is still not finalised?

I think people are being emensely over-protective; and I get that. I was being that way too.
But what upsets me is not that someone wrote an article... which, btw, I think is a really great article; it is the way some people have reacted towards it and in particular the author. It makes me very sad [img]frown.gif[/img] It's interesting, human nature-wise, to observe just how easy it is for people to be mean to someone they don't know and may never know. I don't mean this about fans, I mean people in general; this just brings up a solid example for me. And honestly... this fanbase has been notably bad about mistreating people and gossiping. <--- that would be the reason that I pulled back some time ago and said to myself "No more of this! I want to have a fun experience, not am experience that makes me miserable and makes me act like a spoilt scorned teenager".

It shouldn't be surprising that someone leaked the information. Excited and dedicted fans were handed something that everyone in the fan base has been waiting for, then consider the sessions about how to promote and the resulting excitment from that. It's only human nature that the excitement and desire share that excitment got the better of them.
In my opinion, leaks were to be expected. I'm only suprised that it has been this limited. After all, these are fans some of which are fairly young. They are not media and marketing professionals who is expected to show more restraint.
Well, I'd say that a public hanging would be appropriate. Oh wait, they already did that.

I do kind of wonder what all the secrecy is all about, I admit I haven't read the waiver post yet so may be wrong in what I am about to say, but if DH wants people to buy & enjoy his new music surely the more people that hear about it the better, someone may read that review & like what they read of the lyrics & become a fan of his music that way. Are other imminent releases this secretive? ( are Listening parties common or rare events?) As for the article itself, The one I read, via google was well written, informative and quoted about 3 sentences fron lyrics and DH responses to questions. no massive secrets given away, the world didn't stop turning after I read it. perspective is whats needed over there.
I could be hung, drawn and quartered for this but here goes
imo there is a clique (sp??) on this board and the DH board and of course this is bound to happen - people get to know each other and therefore tend to agree with those they know
when I first dared to post on the f/c board I was extremely naive to the 'politics' of posting and got myself into real deep water when I dared to post against someone in a clique - this resulted in a pm slanging match which was regrettable and completely unnecessary - the thing that upset me the most was that the person I was arguing with said that she had spoken to a friend and they had said I wasn't worth explaining things to - erhhhh - how would they know??
It does worry me that people get so annoyed with each other - but sometimes you can't help getting hot headed. Debate is healthy but it's difficult to have a real debate with such a vastly different collection of people.

Gilly thanks for your honesty. I sincerely hope that ppl here feel comfortable sharing their opinions without fear of being jumped on by others with differing ones. The ppl here can respect others opinions and a healthy discussion can occur.
I've been a member of the f/c forum since the beginning and I rarely go there anymore...what can I say I find it very frustrating and imo it never used to be like that.

Everybody seems to be wanting to critisize people left and right. I'm guilty of that also, especially lately. I really took offence to a comment made on the f/c board in the last couple of days regarding Darren not attending the Aussie parties. Comment being made about how he owes the Aussies something for not being there, being said by someone who has obviously had a meet and greet with the man as her signature quite plainly shows. It really erked me and I mentioned it in a email to a couple of people. But then I ask myself, hey, she's just voicing her opinion and how she feels, and people are always saying how we can't say anything on that board otherwise people are jumped on.
It is a grey area.
I'm wondering if this happens in other fan bases as well.
I think people are going completely overboard with the secrecy thing @_@ I mean, as i said on the dh bbs, i understand not wanting the tracklist to get out because if they change it, it could be a nightmare if any media sources decided to jump the gun and write an article about it either online or offline - misinformation is always bad and confusion like that could stagger the promotion process, not good either. So if that's the issue, let's guess, then there is no need for a similar concern over the lyrics because the likelihood of ANY of the lyrics being changed at this point, seeing as the album is done and all, is slim to none.
There is the copyright idea, but i think Terry might be right .... arg i wish i could remember the name of the site where you could see all the songs Darren had properly registered... is that even the term for it? LOL
And as many have eloquently said, no one is gonna die if the lyrics get out so some folk need to get out of the bitter barn and play in the hay!

Steen, you may be thinking of ASCAP. http://www.ascap.com/ace/search.cfm?mode=search Though I am certain that there are other sources, too. This just happens to be the one that sprang quickly to mind. (btw, they aren't showing anything new for Darren yet,)
However, I am certain that the songs are copyrighted already. If fact, I am as certain as certain can be. He wouldn't be playing them or recording them......... the label who (unless I'm mistaken) owns pubishing rights wouldn't let him until their legal interest is protected.
What I think is going on with all the secrecy is more a desire to give people a surpirse. Darren has done that in the past........ wanted to keep a single or information secret so that people are surprised when he unveils it and he often has referred to his cds and music as "gifts". And I have seen him and his camp get more than a bit miffed when fans find the "gift" early and ruin the surprise.
I've always thought those were sweet sentiments (IF that is what part of what is going on), but not very realistic when it comes to how fans operate.

Steen's SG bbs is run in a similarly relaxed manner, as is the Sony bbs to a certain extent, and therefore the topics and contents of threads are more diverse and more mature, imo.

However, I think it might have been a very good idea if that waiver had been posted on the boards beforethese LP's took place so that everyone was clear about the guidelines of what they could and could not talk about publicly - just my opinion.
Anyway after having spent 3 hours at the hospital this morning with my daughter I realise there are far more important things to worry about and to be honest all I want to do tomorrow is hear the music, meet my friends, hopefully get to say hello to Darren and just enjoy myself.

Laura is OK but probably going to have to take tablets for the rest of her life. She has to have yet more blood tests and hospital visits so that's what I'm going to be doing this summer. The consultant is going to write a letter for us to give to the examinations board so that they can take her condition into consideration. I just hope and pray that the medication kicks in very soon, cos time is really short now before her exams start. I had a real battle with the hospital appointments system to get her seen without a really long wait. I know the NHS are over-stretched but OMG you wouldn't believe the mix-ups I've had with letters that haven't been delivered and appointments changed at the last minute. Sorry, I just feel a bit concerned about all this right now.

Well I've just done one hell of a alot of reading!!!
Looking at things from both sides of the coin I can understand why people have got pissed of at the lyrics and titles being posted if they wanted to go to the LP's and have the whole experience as a surprise, but after reading the posts on FC that doesn't seem to be what is ragging people up, it's the whole concept that some ungrateful fan has stabbed Darren in the back and abused his trust and they seem to have jumped to that conclusion without having an open mind.
To be honest the sheer fury of the way people have replied in that thread is worrying. To get this ragged up over something like this seems pointless to me, when they seem to be lynching somebody and accusing someone of being purposely spiteful, when it seems they have just made a mistake by posting something they shouldn't have (ie lyrics, titles).
I wonder though if one if the "clicky people" posted something accidently, it would probably be known as an honest and genuine mistake and there would be nowhere near this magnitude of complaining over there???
OK, I'm going to stop rambling now as it sounds like I'm being bitchy, but I'm just trying to explain my perception on it.
