This is the link to the blog where yesterday the VHSL voted on some redistricting issues and well the SWD is no more and until further notice the CMD is going to have 9 schools, including Richlands, Marion, Tazwell, and Abingdon. Im not a big fan of a local district having 9 teams. That wouldnt let them have any out of district games.
Lee High to Tazewell for a game? F that.
It will make it that much tougher on the LPD teams to fill there schedule if they stay a 4 team District.....Given the trip from Lee to all of those new CMD members will be NASTY they may opt to enter the LPD and I am sure the LPD would take them.Quote:

The CMD has to do something. Lee dropped to D2 single A mainly because of travel time before. Id love to see Lee and Gatecity come to the LPD. This may be VHSL's way of forcing their hand so to speak

GC will not leave the CMD unless forced to. I hear Lebanon wants to leave the CMD and would make a good fit for the LPD.
I feel like the area needs to even the districts out a little especially after the redistricting. LPD needs to pick up Lee or Lebanon if not both.

The problem with that is the Burton has been on the cusp of jumping ship to the CD for several years now and bringing in Lee and Lebanon may push them over the edge......That being said Lee would be a great Fit and Lebanon would be good as well.....I would like to see Eastside in there as well......Grundy moveing over would cause the BDD to backslide plus other than for Clintwood they are a bit out of the wayQuote:

The best thing about this new classification system is that down here in SWVA we have the ability to make districts that all competing schools will be the same classification. JIB could go to the Cumberland and be in an all 1A district, the LPD and the CMD will be all 2A schools an so forth. To me that is better than the Dulles District with 6A and 5A schools and one 2A. Either way its cut, the LPD will not be the same LPD of 20 years ago. New teams are coming in and old teams will leave. I just hope the level of competition dont change.
Forgot about Abingdon, they'd be 3A.
Eastside won't come to the lpd. They puss'd out of the lpd to win a few more football games years ago. Same administration that did it is still there. Not going to happen.
I won;t say that Burton has not tried to go to the CD, but seems that was Shupe, then Williams trying to talk the principals into making the move. Jimbo always has been pro LPD, his statement that we don't need a $ team District was meaning to bring Eastside back in and Castlewood too the switch, now that Jimbo is AD that is over with unless forced to move to another District we will stay LPD.
I can tell you for certain Gate City does not want to rejoin the LPD. Only way it happens is if it is forced.Quote:

Abingdon will be the only 3A here and they are going to be in a district with Cave spring and all of them i think. I do know they are not coming to the CMD with Richlands Tazwell and Marion. As far as Gate City not wanting to leave the CMD for the LPD, I know they dont but the VHSL may force them to leave due to the fact that the CMD will be a 9 team district. In all honesty the VHSL may end up spliting the CMD into two seperate districts, but thats just my guess. In all honesty before all the "reclassification" junk is done the LPD may not exist any longer. IT is plausable that the VHSL takes the LPD and CMD and forces them into three if not four different districts. It all depends on geography and honestly what mood the VHSL is in. Dont be surprised to see Gate City forced out of the CMD due to number of schools and the geography. Despite Lee and Gatecity every other CMD team is Washington co, and above. Every other school over there is right up 81 except Lee and Gate City. Its given that Lee will leave due to travel time and will most likely end up in the LPD, but that will still leave an 8 team district which will put a damper on OOD scheduling for the rest of SWVA. IMO that will be the deciding factor for the VHSL on weather to force Gate City out or not. Is it fair? No, but it is most likely what will happenQuote:

I missread that. you are right Abingdon will be in the CMD too. That will be Gatecity, VHS, John Battle, Lebanon, Lee, Richlands, Tazwell, Marion, and Abingdon. Every school in the CMD despite Gate City and Lee are right up US 81 from each other
I can see the LPD disolved. They could put Union and Central in the CMD, Clintwood in the BDD, and Burton in the CD. If that was to happen then Marion would need to join Graham in the MED. That would be Marion, Grayson, and Graham as the AA schools and the rest A.
I Think We Should Keep the LPD district going,put back Eastside,Gate City,and anyone that wants in,LPD has won many Championships, most these teams use be in it ,alot still play those teams,i am all for the ,LPD Pride
I wonder how much ground, if any, being a successful and old district will hold up with the VHSL?
My thoughts is if you have enough to split the CMD in half why not place some (Lee and GC) into the LPD and have 6 in the district? and possible add Eastside back to create a 7 team district? School enrollment and distance between schools is about the same. Norton would be the smallest school obviously but that would only help them come tournament time. Just ask JIB girls basketball team last year!
This is how I would do it...makes the most sense geographically:
BDD:
1. Grundy
2. Hurley
3. Richlands
4. Tazewell
5. Twin Valley
6. Honaker
7. Council (non-football)
Cumberland:
1. Eastside
2. Castlewood
3. Twin Springs
4. Thomas Walker
5. Rye Cove
CMD:
1. Virginia High
2. Abingdon
3. Gate City
4. Lebanon
5. Marion
6. John Battle
LPD:
1. Central
2. Union
3. J. I. Burton
4. Dickenson County
5. Lee
Each district would have either 5 or 6 teams for football. And then the BDD would have 7 for most other sports. I think it's crazy for the CMD to have 8 or 9 teams. That would eliminate a lot of traditional out of district rivalry games. And I know this is almost blasphemy on this board to say....but football is not the only sport, and I'd say that's what most are worried about when they look at these setups (but is not the only thing the VHSL will see)
I believe that most of Lebanon's moves were a result of enrollment changes and redistricting and not due to a desire to move on their part.
I have to agree that I foresee the LPD being dissolved as well. It would make sence to put Union and Central in the CMD, Rose Ridge in the BDD, and JIB in the Cumberland. If this happens more than likely the CMD would be split into two districts being Union, Central, Gate City, Lee, and John Battle in one and VHS, Abingdon, Richlands, Tazwell, and Marion in the other. They would more than likely play inside their district with one or two games from the other (similar to the SEC) leaving room for one maybe two OOD games a season. But hey it is the VHSL so who knows what will happen.
