New project with GPA woofers-drivers
Hello, fellows!
I just finished my new project with GPA woofers and drivers. It is 4-way speaker with GPA 515-16C, GPA 414-16B, GPA 288-16H, all with Alnico V magnets. For VHF I use BMS 4552-16ND in small Spheric Wave Tractrix Horn.
I would like to tell many thanks to Bill and Steve for great job! GPA are the best loudspeakers in the World!
Just few photos:

Re: New project with GPA woofers-drivers
Beautiful work! Love the look of the curved front.
I didn't know GPA made a new version of the 288. I've only seen the 390's & the 399's on their website. I'm just putting together a new midrange set up & would be very interested to get some more detail on these.
Cheers,
John

Re: New project with GPA woofers-drivers
John they are called the Classic series. You can get 416-8B's,802-8G's, 288-8H's,and a few others in Alnico magnets in 8 or 16 ohm....

Re: New project with GPA woofers-drivers
Wonderful! Please, give us more details - how they sound, measure etc.

Re: New project with GPA woofers-drivers
Those are gorgeous speakers--great build..... The scary thing is that with those GPA drivers they probably sound even better than they look!

Re: New project with GPA woofers-drivers

Re: New project with GPA woofers-drivers
Hi guys!
These speakers sound great! A deep and fast bass, clear midrange and crystal highs! The port is tuned to 32Hz. External dimensions are 700mm x 1150mm x 600mm. Internal volume for bass reflex is about 360 liters.

The crossover cutoff frequency are 200Hz, 800HZ and 10KHz

Wonder why they don't have them on the web site. I've sent an email to them requesting more info. I'm just about to purchase some 390's & hadn't heard of these, so now there's a cat among the pigeons!
Mikebond.....tell us about your crossover....who designed it & built it? Crossover slopes?....components used?
They are one impressive looking speaker. (well two actually)

The crossover was calculated together with the friend of mine. Some special software was used, like ARTA, LEAP Crossover Design and very cool software 3D Acoustic Research written by my friend. After calculation I spent many hours and days with measuring and testing.
Crossover was made by me using Mundorf coils and capacitors.

Re: New project with GPA woofers-drivers
Mike what are those labels/badges at the bottom of the cabs just below the ports ? I notice you have some eggcrate foam on the walls. Where you getting a lot of reflections ? If so you may want to extend the treatment up to or just higher than the HF horn.Especially with those big 88's.The room looks fairly narrow,is it long and narrow ?

They do, where the strong market is. USA is very quickly becoming a 3rd world country in terms of consumerism. We get by with cheap junk produced with slave labor in the orient while the rest of the world is enjoying the "good stuff".
Anywho, polish up your Japanese and have a looksee here: Great Plains Audio???? - ????????

Re: New project with GPA woofers-drivers
Hey, Look at history. China is trying to catch up with a previous position it held in world production, pre Industrial Revolution. At current rates this could be 20 years or so. The West has been lazy and is reluctant to use its advantages to stay ahead by investing in its intellectual resource potential. Capitalism is conservative and tends to milk the last drop from a failing situation. Once the writing is well and truly on the wall the Capitalists seem to rally in strength, leaving a lot of wreckage behind. Is there a better way? I hope so!

Re: New project with GPA woofers-drivers
P.S. Don't write the US of A off. What it needs are old fashioned visionaries in politics rather than the modern politician who won't hold a view without consulting the Polls. This political disease is rampant on both sides of politics and worldwide in Western countries. If you need a revolution in progress you need leaders who are up with the game and looking to the future - hard to do if you are captive to the support of Yesterday's Men(hard when they finance election campaigns). Capitalists will milk the last dying drop from a declining situation before becoming motivated to try something else. Politicians need to be ahead of them, not in their thrall, to utililise business potential.. Big change required on both sides. It is OUR choice. Can you make it?
Non - partisan comment. Definitely OT.

I haven't written her off. But she is only now just beginning to "wake up" when she should really be throttling full steam ahead to her resolve. Sadly, i don't think she even has a viable plan on the drawing board yet. But, i will not give up hope.

Re: New project with GPA woofers-drivers
Bowtie, I made some edits. Much the same but clarified a little - not sure if you caught them.
Cheers, Marshall.

I wish they'd(GPA) get some calendars printed up using some of those beautiful stock pics for the artwork. I'd be the first inline to buy a few. Some of us still like paper calendars with sexy pin-ups, and those would do just fine!
Customers' pics of their own DIY systems using GPA stock would be pretty cool too, the ones above right at the top of the list.

Caught them eventually, and i'm largely in agreement with you.
