local pickup only will keep the price down considerably.
Now the ad says - Will ship - so $ will definitely increase. Great looking set of 604 speakers
Wow, those are real pretty. :)
Bowtie she hasn't caught me in the 15 years we've been together....
Which in retrospect is why I am still living...
I think there are flippers who read this board. For example I've noticed that sometimes if I'm watching an Altec auction with little or no activity, and then I start a thread about the item here, all of a sudden someone pays the BIN price and it's gone. Of course, could be a coincidence or one of our members here, and not a flipper. But, I have a feeling some flippers and used vintage audio dealers do read here and get tips from our threads that relate to current auctions and CL ads of vintage Altecs.....
BTW, those blondes are real beauties and could even make this years Ebay Vintage Altec Swimsuit Calendar......
They look too good to me. I just can't imagine how something is 56 years old, and not a scratch.
To be fair, the seller doesn't say that they haven't been refinished, but ...
Folks use to take care of good stuff before it became a disposable society. My bedroom furniture is Drexel, a BD gift in '60 and except for the normally hidden bed rails and of course the minor scuffing a desk chair is bound to get, still look like new even after three house moves and used by my daughter in her teen years. There's no way many of us can afford such quality today and we wouldn't have either if my dad hadn't been an officer of a fairly large chain furniture retailer that allowed him to buy at cost.

Mike remember with corner cabs they are tucked in a corner and out of the way of the room traffic so IMO they have a better chance of staying scratch free then a regular box type enclosure that maybe out in the room a bit.. Dunno, but they do look to be original cabs in super fine shape..
The kiss of death for me on a speakers price(Meaning how expensive they will be) is that they already have 3 questions on them with (I'm EXTREMELY INTERESTED).So there is obviously a lot of interest in them for good reason. They look all original too, with 1956 original drivers (604C's)... If these sell for less than $3000, I'll be very surprised ! They have been viewed 437 times so far with 3 days left. They look to be almost in Brand New condition from the photos... No easy task being 56 years old.But again they are corner cabs so that should help keep them in mint condition IMO. :Thumbs up:
And generally away from direct sunlight that fades color and finish. Corner placement is an excellent point AB.
I surely don't wanna burst your bubble, i'll be really surprised if they sell for less than 5 or 6K. But, this is the time of year they'd likely bring the least.
I'm pretty sure the only way they'd bring less than 3K is if i were the seller.
Looks like everybody is holding out till the end. $710 bucks right now.
they sure are pretty. Are those corner cabinets acoustically as pretty as that blonde appearance?
I've never heard a 606 cab. How do they compare to a 620 style with an 8G?
$3,650 got er done.
There really wasn't much of a bidding war at the last second, not even a sniper.
So buy in the summer, sell in the winter?
For the most part. Yes ! Prices will actually start climbing around the middle of September IMO&E.It could have something to do with school/college starting around this time, dunno. But when it gets cold out to.There are more people in their homes and on their computers. :smile2:
