Anyone know what speaker system those were used in?
Actually several, Santana and Madrid I know of.
+1 (Santana & Madrids) it was designed for a sealed cabinet..
Edit: Was looking for volume dims and saw your post sorry OG
Why? Did you fart?
Seriously nothing to be sorry about.:D
I think GM has made some past posts, the 420 models well in a ported box, but bigger than the Santana/Madrid.
Speaking of Madrids my brother has a set cabs decent, dented aluminum dust caps, and a couple pinholes in tweets, which should be upgraded anyway. A hundred clams. Wouldn't take a lot to make them first class.
"B's" were late, 1974 and after, and are the premium 420 using a 16 inch frame and the cast motor of the 416-8B.
I'm pretty sure the Madrid was out of production by the time the 420-8B came along, but as soon as i say that an "odd duck" will surface.
You learn something every day (hopefully). I always thought a biflex woofer would have some kind of "special" (unique) motor..... I have no clue as to how those biflex woofers work/what they actually do as far as the two cone sections etc.....
Nope, just a small diaphragm suspended in a large one. At low frequencies they act ~ as one and as the frequency increases to the point where a regular woofer would be rolling off, the smaller diaphragm starts taking over since it has a lower mass and more compliant suspension best suited for the higher octaves. Ultimately, it's the 'woofer's' big VC that sets its rather 'lean' HF response and why it needs a super tweeter.

They probably are. The '75 reference guide shows 3 possible loads for 872B, two of which are in 16 inch frames.
AFAIK, the only 420 with the tweeter coaxially strapped across it is the 420Y.
