Have NEVER seen these before: ALTEC 511 / HEATHKIT 400-1 DRIVER HORNS & MOUNTING BRACKETS | eBay
Hmm, I saw this epay ad some time ago except listed as Altec. Guess they didn't sell, so now trying to make them seem a bit rare. Can't believe Heathkit would pay for the bkts. and don't recall ever seeing them in a catalog or why they would even offer them.

Those were my thoughts also. So, i suppose this is in effect "taking the long way around" to maximize one's profit on a pair of 511A brackets.
It's always been my understanding that the bracket was originally intended to provide true omni-directional positioning when the 511A was used as a stand alone paging/PA speaker.
I guess i have a fetish for the bracket, they could not have been inexpensive to produce, and seem to be fairly uncommon in the marketplace.
Mine too.
Around here it's because they are still in service with one brand/type of horn or other.

They were never used in any Cabinet... That's not what they were designed for.. Most likely an after market purchase so someone could mount them on a ceiling or up high IMHO...
I've gotten gun shy about the word "never". Not fond of egg on my face.
I have to say somewhere somebody may have used the brackets in a cab. But have never seen it.. And if you mean Altec never did, am 99.999999 % sure you are right. As GM showed, Heath did use the 511A in cabs.
I agree with you OG.. But in this case I think it was appropriate.I was talking about those Brackets..I was strictly talking about them being manufactured (Cabinets) with these brackets already installed by a manufacturer inside of a cabinet like Heath,Altec... To the best of my Knowledge I have never seen or come across any cabinet or literature stating otherwise...
Is it possible ? Sure but highly unlikely due to the cost of these brackets..
Remember these brackets were pricey.. When inside a cabinet some flat iron brackets bent to shape would suffice at the time was prolly ? .10 Those 511A ceiling brackets were expensive for brackets..
They are ceiling or wall mount brackets for mounting up high for PA use .. IMHO.
I don't like using "Never" either. There are no absolutes except death and taxes..... :wink2:
I don't think you'll get any argument on that AB.:DQuote:

The underlying theme here is that something doesn't jive in this fella's auction, maybe.
It's hard to tell from the pic if the color is accurate for Heath, but the brackets do seem to match the horns in color, and it seems like it would be going to a LOT of trouble to source repro Heath decals.
After reviewing the pics closely, i believe these are NOS, and i believe the brackets belong with and have always been with those horns, the color matches perfectly, and they're in immaculate condition.
I can only conclude by a wild ass guess that Heath must have offered the 511A w/bracket as a PA speaker for at least a period of time. I knew they made a few mixer amplifiers, and column speakers, but was never really aware that they offered anything for distributed sound.
I know what doesn't jive in this auction, the pool pics...wasn't there a guy selling some really awesome looking brackets for something else not too long ago and he had pictures of them by his pool?
Hmm. The horns in the pool pics have holes and are 511b, the other pics are 511a. Something fishy.

Nice catch OG ! Yup those are different then the other pics... The Heaths have no holes in the mounting flange either.. The brackets don't say heath on them anywhere Bowtie.. But also agree that these horns weren't sold in any cabinet due to the lack of mounting holes.. Could be Heath 511's and Altec Brackets.. My only point or argument was they (Brackets) didn't come IN any cabinet that I'm aware of. However if someone has something stating otherwise I will gladly edit my post to reflect the new info...
I would bet heavily that you're correct!Quote:

I'd sure like to have a pair of those brackets tho. Mounted to the appropriate sled, i think they'd be an elegant way to dress A7-500's.
Those Heath labels are quite confusing.. And the horns have no holes in the mounting flange..So I think they were sold as PA ceiling horns.. Just my .02
I have been known to be wrong before !! :Big smile:
