Perhaps the best 12 inch woofer Altec ever made.
Free shipping too!
Nice, but (0) feedback seller.
Paypal makes that almost moot. Clear communication on adequate padding/packing is probably the most important factor.
Hopefully they haven't tried to remove either woofer from the motorboard. It should be ensured that no dope has migrated which can result in torn gaskets and cones if hastily removed.
those look niiiice from the rear!
I've seen different magnet configurations on 414s. Are these the Alnico or ceramic version?
Noperoonie.
2.4 pounds 416B
416-8B
1.8 pounds 416c

If the magnet was kept the same would have been a substantial mid band gain as the 414 has lower moving mass. See someone who knows what they are talking about, say like GM, if you want a better answer.
416-8B
Thanks OG, i never thought to look for it on the GPA site.
Someday we really need to condense a library with all this stuff in a single location.
I would have guessed they used the same mag slug as earlier 414's based on the sensitivity of the systems using them. But, i hate guessing since that usually fails when it's important.
Aaaaaaahhhhh, this is why we don't recone 417H as a 414.Quote:

Would a solution be as simple as adding mass to bring the 414 cone weight up to that of the 416 assembly?
You are correct that 417 has the 416 assembly
If you want to get some insight set up a box design in say Winisd
Then:
Sd - Projected area of the driver diaphragm, in square metres.
Mms - Mass of the diaphragm/coil, including acoustic load, in kilograms. Mass of the diaphragm/coil alone is known as Mmd
Cms - Compliance of the driver's suspension, in metres per newton (the reciprocal of its 'stiffness').
Rms - The mechanical resistance of a driver's suspension (i.e., 'lossiness') in N?s/m
Le - Voice coil inductance measured in millihenries (mH) (Frequency dependent, usually measured at 1 kHz).
Re - DC resistance of the voice coil, measured in ohms.
Bl - The product of magnet field strength in the voice coil gap and the length of wire in the magnetic field, in tesla-metres (T?m).
Play with Mms and Bl and view the resulting responses
I would like to see what a 417 assembly could do with a higher mass kit, like a 3154. There may be issues with gap length. One of the 3 million things I likely will never get done.
I've got winISD working on this PC and may actually play with this over the next few days, crappy weather coming for the weekend.
Got any suggestions for remedying the collapsed lifter in my '98 5.7L Vortec?:D
Actually i don't know if a lifter has collapsed, and i fear it may be a cam issue as this model uses a steel cam(known to sometimes be problematic with disintegrating lobes) and hydraulic roller lifters. I can't pass NYS inspection with a misfire code on the log, and i'd like to fix it right rather than ask my buddies to "cheat" it through.
