OT: You know you have too much audio equipment when...

I'll go first.

You know you have too much audio equipment when you have a spare cathode follower amp, some neat home-made full range speakers and don't even have to leave the house even for a plug or wire in order to set up a killer bedroom entertainment system.

I wish the Heathkits would fit, but the room is very narrow and I'd have to climb over the bed to get to the other side. 20 years ago that would have be a no decision.

If you notice, there is a big hole cut in the wall behind the flat screen. It is over 2" deep. The previous owner had an old conventional TV in there. Because of some strange construction design, there is actually a hollow space on either side of the TV all the way down the roof line. I'd bet I have 10cuft on each side. Might make an interest place to flush mount some Altec "ceiling mount" speakers you say...hum?

Hmm........ when it starts to look more like piles of clutter. Sorry, that's all I got. I've accumulated pieces and parts to various projects, only to have pieces and parts to various projects.

Dear God, please don't make me play this game! :o

1) When every room in your house has at least one audio system.

2) When all the closets or hiding places are filled.

3) When your wife will no longer be talked into going to a nice restaurant 30 miles away
from home while picking up some audio gear in route.

I guess I do as well, because a month ago I'd have made the trip from West Jersey.

The house I recently bought does not have a basement or a usable attic. I have no room to store anything, let alone things with the Altec name on them. So I'm in no danger of making on an episode of hoarders anytime soon.

Quite the opposite, I'm getting rid of shi...stuff at an alarming rate. My Heathkits will be on the block in a day or two.

I think Tom is right. There's no such thing.

TBH, I have almost enough. I have two rooms in a house dedicated to the storage of stuff. No systems are hooked up in them as there is no furniture or anything else, just audio stuff.

I use big woofers as weights for gluing. I have tweeters big enough for the same thing.
I have horns that require 2 persons to carry.
I have bass cabinets big enough to hide 2 bodies in.
If a friend blows a driver, chances are I have it.
I too, turn down good deals.

Your getting ready to move and your building a new home and your main focus is on the man cave (music room). I'm adjusting bedroom sizes, bathroom sizes and locations of rooms so that I can get the size that I want (approx 15X21). The hell with the rest of the home, I want my man cave!

My current dilemma is justifying the additional cost of a 10 foot+ poured foundation versus the more common 8 foot. I really want my 210's to be able to stand up, and not have the horns crammed against the ceiling.

I relieved myself of this step in the process of all aspects of life a few years back, traded her for more rewarding interests.;)

There was a mild verbal confrontation one afternoon when she came into the workshop as i was bondo-ing my just completed A7 cabinets. In short, she ended up issuing an ultimatum that it'd either be "her or those damn speakers"(in retrospect she was f@$#ing nuts, and there was clearly a lot more wrong than just a pair of speakers), i thought the choice was obvious. The VOT's are easier to live with, look better, sound better, and can be put in storage when you become bored with them.:D

oddly enough, some of us attracted our prospective mates using automotive speakers to display our multitrac looptape mating calls.

Do it. I paid an extra $2K or something like that for my 10' ceilings. I am really happy that I did. Remember that you will lose 6-9" from the joists and ducts under the 1st floor.

And as far as too much audio equipment, there's a lot I can say, but hey that's how it goes. I am slowly liquidating some of the stuff I don't use, that doesn't make the cut, and/or won't need in the future...
