ok, the black paint on the valve cover of my b16 is peeling in places..i wanna make it look purty. what's the best way to go about getting the old black paint off and shiny-ing it up?

Get a strong paint remover. I got this stuff that I sprayed on, let sit over night and was just able to wipe off the paint. I then used some paint called crinkle paint to redo my valve cover black, it actually looks stock. Give it a shot

yeah the paint on my engines peeling too, dont they make anodized replacement valve covers or soemthing? i bet they get more expensive than painting, but they probably look a heck of a lot better though...

Planned: AEM Cold Air Intake, DC Ceramic 2pc. 4-2-1 Header, GReedy SP Exhaust System, GReddy GREX Shift Knob (yeah!), lots more beginner stuff later.
my thinking is that the valve cover will polish up pretty easily, and should look pretty sweet..all this without having to order the red type R valve cover and looking like a poser (no offense to anyone who has a red valve cover http://www.hostboard.com/ubb/wink.gif i just don't want to spend the cash on one)

cwbetb, what brand is that crinkle paint??? I've been looking everywhere for that type of paint, can't seem to find it!! Also where did you get it??

I had my valve cover bead-blasted. It's like sand blasting, only they use glass beads, then it got a light blue with metal flake paint job with a thick coat of clear. It looks awsome!

I have the same problem with my valve cover. I was thinking about red but decided I want the stock black "wrinkle" look.
Eric, do you happen to have a pic of your valve cover done with that "wrinkle" paint?

I used this paint remover call air craft coating remover, this stuff works insanely good, dont have to wait over night for the stuff to work, takes 5-10 minutes max then you wipe the paint right off.

i used zip strip or stripeze. i cant remember exactly which one. then i used a wire brush on a drill and cleaned it to the bare metal. then u got it sprayed the same color as my car http://mediaservice.photoisland.com/...2601780796.jpg

I think a gel type paint removers would work well in this application..and they dont' run...kinda like the consistency of mayonnaise. We use that stuff on boats when it has to hang off the bottom but not drip so it can remove the paint.
