I wanna get a new exhaust coming up soon and was wondering whats a good <u>fairly quiet</u> exhaust? I dont wanna be heard from a mile away but more like 20 feet, also im hoping to stay away from the (sometimes very annoying) high pitch buzz noise that some mufflers create. Also what are, plus the purpose of the axleback, cat back and resonator?

But thermal gives off a high pitched buzzing sound if you get the 2 1/2 (or 2 1/4, whatever the non turbo exhaust is).. I've never heard a crx exhaust that isn't 3" that doesn't sound like a pissed off bee..

Resonators are generaly used to help muffle the exaust noise.
an Axel back is a pre-built section that connects to the flang onver the rear axel, some muflers are only available in this way (5Zigen) witch leaves you 2 options, use the mid section you have or replace it. generaly in the 150-350$ range
a cat back is a whole replacement unit from the catylitic converter back (hence cat-back) generaly in the 400+ range
DC Sports is a real nice exaust, it is usualy priced around 450-600$ depending on where you get it. it uses complete polished stainless steel , a resonator and a real nice 4" slash tip. it sound real nice, not extreamly loud but sporty.

An exhaust shop told me that the resonator's job, usually just behind the catalytic converter, was to reduce the buzzing/high-pitched sounds the engine makes, and the muffler part was for lower sounds (that nice growl heh-heh http://www.hostboard.com/ubb/wink.gif)

There exhaust sound SWEEETTT
When you run a cat, a resonator, and their muffler it's got a great sound, no buzzing, and it;s pretty stealth cause they are flat black with usually a small crome tip.

There quality is alot better than PAcesetter!!!
I ahve had my exhasut for 4 years, with winter driving, and the thing has stood up bueatifully, enven the black finish is still on it. Even where i dented it and scraped it it;s still black, no rust!!

go with magnaflow. i have that and its not loud and its only like $100 plus it has a lifetime warrenty... they make some good exhaust.

well to start off with i had a custom exhaust with a high flow cat, 2.25inch piping, giant cherry bomb resinator and the brullen muffler.
That was quiet and really really sweet sounding
i now have no cat, saem resonator and the same brullen muffler and it screams, but a good scream http://www.hostboard.com/ubb/smile.gif

I know what u mean about the cold, its like -20 and -30 with the wind chill, I heard u guys in Toronto are getting a pounding.
Anyways back to muffler, is it extremely loud outside of the car? I dont wanna be heard from miles away...and for right now you just have the muffler, resonator and the 2.25 piping right?

Yup right now a cherry bomb resonator 2.25inhc piping and the brullen muffler
Right now it;s loud ouside the car, even inside
With the cat on there it was alot quieter, ALOT.

yes go with magnaflow. i have had two of there mufflers and they weren't loud at all. i loved the sound of my magnaflow on my old 88 accord untill i put that damn pacesetter header on it. made it sound like poop.
but i'm throughing a magnaflow on my eclipse as soon as i get done with the rebuild.
plus there extremely cheep also. i was quoted 2.5" mandrel bent with magnaglow muffler installed for 250 bucks

I have a Vibrant axle back. Not loud. It's Canadian. Cost me about $225 shipped from the great white north. They also make the forward section if you want to go cat back. I just replaced the tail section.

If you're gonna go with aftermarket exhaust then get yourself a flowmaster 60 series muffler. They have a sound clip of an integra on their website, it's like www.flowmasterexhaust.com I think. Anyway I don't care, I'm just going to go with the pacesetter cat back and then stick a different muffler on it, if it rusts out at least I know I didn't spend $400 on it, and plus if it does I've got someone that owns an exhaust shop who said bend me some stainless pipe if I wanted them too, for a small fee of course.

personaly i'm replacing my Pacesetter Crap-Back with a 5Zigen Axle Back, (the only good part of the pacesetter is the 2" mandrel bent tubing)
