I was curious to hear about the different stereo systems that we all have. I personally like Kenwood and am switching over to have an all kenwood system. Right now i have 2 12 kenwood 3003, a pair of kenwood 6906 6x9's, 2 kenwood 628 amps, a pair of 4 inch memphis door speakers (the door is made to hold 6 inch) with a Pioneer deck. and to save me money i install myself.

well i havent had the newest version of the SPL portion of my system on a meter yet due to the car currently not running.
But my previous set up which was 2-AudioBahn 1505's and the same amps with less port was 152-153 depending on how tight the termpro was. I expect my newer version to be about 2 db louder do to doubleing the port area and adding about 3cubft more airspace so im looking for 155's untill i add more power (gonna switch to 4 Xtream 1400's roughly 4500 watts a woofer) then i should move to the upper 150's 156-158's
the only down fall i for see right now is the musically of the lowend because strokers have been know to not have the best SQ but who knows we'll see

well, we bought the Si in Aug of last year so, she only went to one db drag up in Bend (at Car Tunes).I believe she hit 138.7, which i was very happy with. we made the trip up (3 hrs 1 way) there to support some friends and 1/2 of them didn't show. one of the people who did show blew up in qualifying and the best on class "A" was a girl only hitting 135 with a square L7. so i figured why not and ran my car even though the amp was hot from the trip up (DOH!) and my system hadn't been tuned. my car picked up the nickname "Malfunction Junction" because my Sony was taking at least 10 of the 30 secs a run just to kick on CD's but, yet we were still winning.
i'm pretty sure that the Pioneer I have now (tuned in of course) would and can break 140 (WOW!). pretty impressive for 1 MTX Thunder 500 amp and 1 MTX Thunder 8000 sub!!! to put it into perspective, my system hits the same as a friend's who has 3 10's!!! pack light, hit hard is my moto......

N2HIFI - are you running two alternators...you mentioned 3 batteries.
All i got to say is it's all about Kicker. I have 2 Kicker Impulses in a banbpass box pushed by a Kicker ZR120 amp. I have a pioneer deck and Boston 6 1/2" in the doors and pioneer 6 1/2" in the rear. I am planning on changing to an Eclipse deck and getting an amp for my 6 1/2" in the front and back and getting some 1" tweeters in the front. It hits very hard and I don't think that I could handle much more.

Nc-Rex i am only running just the one factory alt for now but am upgrading to a larger Ohio Generator alt later in the year. 2 alts would be kewl but not really a option with the eventual turbo install i dont want to add to much weight to the front end plus i dont think ill need it because by the time i actually get the car to the point where ill be happy for a while ill probley yank the system out and just throw in 1-15" and a couple of large 2 channel amps and be done with it who knows...the never ending quest for a better sounding system/faster car

Hey there. I am running 4-15" sub s in a sub wall. The stock alternator is fine. I also have a 1 farad stiffening cap which helps out alot. The aem underdrive pulley setup I also have slows the alternator down even more but I have had no problems with power drain. No light dimming or nothing. If you want to run 2 alternators go ahead but the stock one will do. just put a stiffening cap in. Or a high output alternator. Another cheap alternative I heard of is to change the number of windings in the stock alternator. Pushes out more current but could smoke it real quick.. Good luck..
No i've never heard of the 88 with 16 subs, but i read the guy with 4 15's, and that's pretty crazy. Mine is an 89.
oops, my bad. it's a '91 and it has 16 MTX Thunder 8000 10" subs, 16 MTX Thunder 302 amps (300 watts X 1 bridged @ 12 volts), and is powered by 5(!) 100-amp alternators. last i READ it had a SPL level of 157.4 which wasn't all that great. the last i HEARD it was around 165 (now that's more like it). check out www.cartoyzinc.com for pics and such

well since i put my system on here i also put my roomates on here also since his car is 91 Civic HB DX with a WW rs kit. I also did the full install on it also.
This car is a daily driver and has a mixtre od spl and SQ.
Sony M600 (black face)
sony 10 disc changer
1) Xtr 6 1/2 componet kit
2)-15" HCCA's
1) 225R HCCA running mids/highs
4) XtreamPro 2400's (brand new class d amp 3000watts a piece w/1 per voice coil)
1)18 cubft box with a 400" port in a flat wall
8)8volt battries wired in series to provide a 16v system for the sub amps only
well that pretty much covers the equipment in the car. The car competes in both Usac outlw and Db Drag SS 1/2 and does very well in both. With the current set up the car does 159-161 on the dash and mid 160's outlaw

what brand are you going with? kenwood is getting down and dirty. they are reliable and most up to date. if you haven't yet, go check out their line.

I have a Kenwood KDC-5011 head unit with 6.5" Kenwood 2 ways in the front doors and 6.5" JBL GTs in the rear deck.
I have my car wired for an amp, but don't have one in yet. I think i just want a nice small 50-100W to drive a 8-10" sub for the trunk..nothing fancy.
Incidentally..my CD Player has been giving me problems with CD's....lots of skipping and crap..any ideas? I used a CD head cleaner, but some CD's which play fine in everything else, skip on this player. It is only 2 years old.

well, it could be your laser eye is off. go you your local stereo shop and have them do a "bench test" (some shops it's free if the unit is already out)
you have good product in your car! i highly suggest MTX amps. they aren't too hard on the pocket with excellent performance.
wanna talk about warped thinking? my hubby at one time considered "walkie talkie" headsets so driver & pass. could communicate while his system was running in his old car. now that is outta control http://www.hostboard.com/ubb/smile.gif

Well, believe it or not I think its an Audiovox. It's not an in dash, but it is 12V and it's only $440. Plus it plays MP3's. It's not like we have a place to put an indash in anyways. I hook up my PS2 on long trips. That's actually pretty killer. I don't have DTS or Surround, but the stereo separation is more than enough. And watchin Gladiator on a 3 hour road trip is a nice convenience. I'd love to trade my p-907 in for the new kenwood kvt-???? but it just costs too much.

Do you only have problems when your playing CD-R's? I know my deck even has trouble playing them and I paid $2300 for it. But it plays regular CD's just fine.
