boy that's tempting... Real tempting......
Group buy??? I could go for half a dozen....
I got the high bid on them right now. ($3000.00) I'm picturing 2 open baffles with 15 drivers per baffle. Or maybe 14 per baffle with my Aurum cantus G1's just for sparkle.
If that doesn't work out guess what your all getting for Christmas...
You could take 18 of them and build a pair of to-scale Bose 901 replicas. :)
C'mon somebody, Bid on these would ya, because if I win them next Friday night with my $100.00 bid your all gonna be pissed. ( You didn't actually think I bid $3000.00 did you?) And besides I sold My Cornscala's tonight for $900.00 and went back to my flower looking art Deco baffles with the 4" Fostex's in them backed up by my Dayton sub and I can't honestly remember hearing a better sounding setup ever.
I had to Google Bose 901....that's a different looking animal isn't it.

Don't think for a minute that that hasn't crossed my mind.
Not that crazy when you consider there were some legitimate speaker engineers that used their styrofoam cooler lids to build drivers after they drank all their beer!(Bertagni/BES & Yamaha) Ok, maybe it was champange and saki, not beer.;)
I think they partied with some of the fellas at EV too, pretty sure the 30W is a foam cone and IIRC, they made a smaller driver or two that also used a foam cone.
I guess they didn't realize that fancy new lightweight material was packing material.:D
I deserved that.... :)

I may end up referring to you for wiring advice if I actually end up getting them. I understand the maintaining the 8 ohms but are you saying wire 3 of them in series and the forth one in parallel and that would give me 16 ohms and then when I wire the two banks together I'd have 8 ohms?

Don't you mean 16? or are there two hidden ones I'm not seeing?
Okay I think I found it sticking out the back...or is that the front?
http://www.allegrosound.com/Bose_901V_2.jpg
yeah that was blose's indirect sound idea. the one in the front was supposed to give you some sense of hf that the other 8 pointing at the wall (or walls) lost on the way.
was one of those theorys that looked good on a showroom floor, and usually delivered by some white guy salesman with a fro in the seventies
Some versions of 901 were wired in a 3 x 3 configuration, here's a diagram:Quote:

Bose....Bring Other Sound Equipment in Pro audio...
No highs, no lows- must be Bose was used a lot in the home stereo arena.
I miss the days of Hi-Fi stores, they went the way of TV stores a decade earlier....corner store can't fight a big box store.
Interesting thing is, names like Bullfrog, and Hot Spot got plenty of praise using exactly the same drivers that were in the Bose 800 Industrial.
IMO, in their day those 800's were hands down about the best compact PA on a stick you could get. No highs and no lows is true, but they were still pretty coherent for speech, and for their very small size pumped out whalloping SPL's and a single pair could cover a fairly sizable area. One man shows had a great appreciation for them.
Cradeldorf, now that you've had your fun, quit messing around and get some real speakers. Find some M19's close by or better yet, drive out to Oregon and buy RonSSS's A7's and build 4 bucket subs and get a real set of speakers.
Edit; on your way out, stop by and I'll show you my $500 Altec guitar speakers w/ (2) 10" Alpine subs setup that is sounding better with the Moody Blues Albert Hall live concert on CD than their live concert I just went to at the Bismarck Civic Center 100 feet in front of a JBL Line Array.
Chalk it up to the ever increasing cost of education. No doubt, you learned from the experience. Nothing ventured, nothing gained. You gotta pay to play. .................... and all that horse shit.Quote:
Throw away is the optimum phrase here. I lost $1100.00 on that mistake.
Sorry buddy. Looking back on some of my own brainstorms, i think you got a bargain.
If it makes you feel any better i can share with you the financial accounting of my marriage/divorce.
Yeah that's how I look at it. Funny thing is I saw so many claiming that the cornscala's were much better than your basic cornwall...that I can't imagine how bad all those people are suffering. They were horrible sounding, nothing like trying to polish a turd.
I ended up with $72,000 in my pocket from my divorce.... you must have done it wrong...
I have a pair of 1217's and a pair of 840's..each with 6 403's per cab..they are very loud, my line arrays. but I still just listen to the 210's
i guess they have neo mags now.
and aluminum frames.

Galaxy Audio S5N-8 5" Neodymium Full Range Driver 8 Ohm 290-020
109$ ??? cradldorf you had better have won that!!!
I sat right there and watched it go down the drain...I was gonna slam it with a $220.00 bid but in the end I really couldn't see the usefulness to me. :(
Some likely flipper did well- they go back on eBay at 50-70 a pair.
i didn't bid because you said you were.
I'd give 50 for a pair just to hear them but wouldn't want to be labeled a flipper by trying to shed most of them. Hopefully they do come back up. All the other ones I saw for sale were not alinco's like these were.
So this has been an educational lesson in communication skills.
Apologies in advance while i do a little "monday quarterbacking".
How many of you contacted Cradledorf privately to express serious interest in some of the 403's?
There's nothing derogatory about being a flipper, it's theiving scumbags that give the business term a sour flavor. Probably could have offloaded most of the surplus within the forum, sell the remainder and funnel the profit to benefit the forum, or Todd's fund, or a split. That'd make one a "benefactor" rather than a flipper.Quote:

I'm as guilty as anybody, i'd have probably taken a pair, or 3. But, i never stepped up to the plate and reached out to Cradledorf, nobody's fault but mine
Finally, please don't anybody be upset with Cradledorf. If you read back thru the thread, he was very upfront about his bid and his intentions long before the auction ended.
The squeaky wheel always wheel gets the grease.
Just my .02.............................................
i'm with you tom. if anyone had been seriously interested. there would have been a bit more discussion and PMs. hell, i didn't even think to put it on my watch list.
