X-Assault, incase you missed my post on the subject the first time, is an incredibly addictive internet game featuring the X-Men.

they have added a lot of cool stuff, it's not just battles based on stats anymore. There are a lot of special matchups based on character, some good, some bad. (i hope i don't have to mention, Nightcrawler vs. Mystique is a bad idea... he still wins, but just barely. Nighty says something like "Mystique, tell me about my past! I'm your son!" it's a bit longer than that, but i can't rememebr what else he says. Mystique says "Hrumph..." in return and attacks him, when it's his turn to attack back, he can't bring himself to do it the first time, tho he hits her in the end, and i think harder than he would normally) I will not spoil it for you too much tho, the ones i reveal are just scratching the surface, trust me, there are tons of these events, the game creatos have FAR too much time on their hands. http://www.hostboard.com/ubb/smile.gif some of the special events are quite obvious, (guess what happens with Wolverine vs Magneto...) others not...
Now, the real reason for this post. As of today, X-Assault now has an Excalibur team!(other new teams include X-Men Home Team, X-Factor, Xtreme and Assault Team X, but that one requires a sacrafice of the highest order to achieve, but it's worth it just to have it happen once, so you get the special hidden character. i will say no more on the subject. also the old teams of X-Men, Uncanny X-Men, and X-Force, actually i think Xtreme has been an old one too, but i never played with it and i think there is one more) anyway, for Excalibur, if you get the 4 members Nightcrawler, Shadowcat, Colossus and Captain Britain, the fifth can be ANYONE YOU WANT! it is a total dream team, they kick complete ass! go try it out and lets see some Excalibur teams on the high scoreboard! you can play without getting a team, (and it turns out, win with a pretty high score!) butland a real team and get defense and attack bonuses, as well as a score bonus! before today i always played with the Uncanny team, and did fairly well with Nightcrawler, Iceman, Chamber, Wolverine and Archangel, but the Excalibur team just has SO much going for it. brute strength, high inteligence, 2 members that do well against fighting opponents, Nightcrawler for defeating toughies such as Magneto or Cassandra Nova, all it is missing is a strong energy wielding member, but since you get the pick of the last member... this is very easily remedied (may i suggest Bishop or Polaris, Psylocke or perhaps Gambit, maybe Professor X, maybe even Iceman... either one of those would fill out the team nicely)

After a few false starts with the new version, on my third game, I got what I fully admit was one LUCKY lineup!

first up, Colossus vs. Toad.... yeah, as if Toad stood a chance. Toad had his ass handed to him on a plate. Nightcrawler vs. Sabretooth. Thankfully, Nightcrawler missed instead of getting hit with a counterassault! I put Colossus in. next up Kitty vs. the Blob; the fight is over in about 2 seconds, I love that fight, it's hilarous, (i can't rememer word for word, but basically - Blob sez "You in for a world of hurt little girl!" Kitty - "the dumb ones, I love the dumb ones. hey Blob, guess what i can do!"... Blob is dead http://www.hostboard.com/ubb/smile.gif then for some reason, Gambit pops in even if he is not on your team and says "all to easy") almost as funny as Iceman vs. Sauron ("hey, remember what happened to the dinosaurs during the Iceage?" Sauron dies promptly "mmmmm... Dinocicles!" http://www.hostboard.com/ubb/smile.gif). Next, Archangel vs. Apocalypse, Warren creams Apocalypse after sprouting nice shiny metal wings. (Archangel had 90% health afterwards, he was the only team member to get hit at all) back to Colossus and Sabretooth, good ol Peter absolutely destroys Sabretooth! Doop sat around doing nothing the whole time, tho i suppose i could have put him up agianst Sabretooth, and had another chuckle at that fight/special event, that one is too long to relate here, but it's funny. Nightcrawler didn't do a whole lot except use his handy teleporting abilities as a placeholder till Colossus came along to finish the job. he coulda taken Toad easily enough, (Toad - something to the effect of "your agility is no match for my own!" Kurt - "you have got to be kidding, Morty" and Nighty kicks his ass.) I mean even as leader, 'cause everyone ended up against their ideal opponent, even the ones where I was going in not having a clue what was there, and didn't really need any help for defense... oh well, he'll still get his handsome blue face up on the board http://www.hostboard.com/ubb/smile.gif I wish the Juggernaut had been the last one tho, or I coulda sailed thru there without taking a hit!
*whew* love this game, way too addictive. fun for people who don't even know the X-men once they get past the trivia (hey, a few lucky guesses and you can memorize the answers for your favorite players even if you don't know the answers, there are only 4 questions for each).

I only got a score of 81 tho, because I accidentaly put Wolverine up agianst Apocalypse (don't do that!) oh well, next time!
Nighty took out Magneto wiht 70 health, the battle was unusually easy on him because there were the team bonuses, and he was fighting in Wundagore, which gives him a battle advantage. Colossus took out Sauron with 100 left, Kitty and Captain Britain took out the Blob both of them had 100 health afterwards. then Wolverine vs. Apocalypse, Logan was killed instantly, I put Kitty in, she took out Apocalyps with 50 health left.

Captain Britain does well against Nova? excelent! never even thought of that, but you're right, she has like zip strength and he has high energy! woo! Nighty can still beat her with the one remaining teleport, but look at the FAQ lol! he may be getting it back, write them about it so i'm not the only one they think wants the teleport back for our little fuzzy secret weapon. the strategy here i think, if you are playing with Excalibur, is to send in Nightcrawler first to hit her once with fighting, pull him and put in Britain to finish her off. that'd probably have you win with the fewest losses points wise, you amy even end up with both of them at 100 health! I think Britain (tho i didn't do this last time, parhaps i should have) is your wisest choice to hold in reserve, because thanks to his force pield, and high strength and energy levels, he can hold his own against almost anything till you can get the right opponent in there. Gambit also does fairly well against Nova.
I have been so incredibly lucky so far, that i havent faced her with the new version yet, the only real tough opponents i've faced have been Sabretooth ( who Colossus creamed) Magneto (Nighty clobbered him) and Apocalypse (Warren then Kitty took care of him) you all are going to hate me, but i've only played 4 or 5 games since the new version went up, one was the 107 score, one was the Excalibur game with 81, one was with like 60 somethin, and one was an escaped by the skin on my teeth kinda game with a win of only 20 or so points.... i think there was one more, i havent lost yet, so i won, but the score probably was pathetic, or maybe i quit before it was over...

My fast connection means the selection goes like mad, I can't get the ones I want, and always end up with crappy teams.
I'm not that sure about Brian against Nova, but I beat her with ONLY Emma (though that was at the Hellfire Club). Strength gets to Nova, and Rogue, Emma and Brian are tough to hurt with energy. So, if you play with one of those against Nova on their home-turf (Savage Land and Australia for Rogue I think), you'll get her, though it'll cost you about 80% of your health.
Trust me, I should know, I face her everytime.

i knew some of those, but not White Queen, (only ahve played with her on my team a couple times) tho it make sense!
i think most characters have atleast one opponent they do especially well against, but what is Nightcrawlers, i wonder? Toad he doesn't get an instant win or anyting, they jsut duke it out, Mystique is a bad matchup with him, but not incredibly so... i wonder if he even has an instant win or loss situation like those above...
speaking of good and bad bad matchups, here are some more
Good-
the ones you already mentioned, plus
Doop vs. Juggernaut, Blob, Mystique or Sabretooth - instant win, he talks them into leaving out of respect for past friendship... lol!
Archangel vs. Apocalypse - sprouts metal wings and his stats become better than Wolverine
BAD
Wolverine vs, either Apocalypse (makes him a horseman again) or Magneto (magneto to only gets him down to 50 by sucking his adamantium out, still not good!)
Beast vs. Sinister - again down to 50 instantly
Doop vs. Nova - instant loss
mildly good and/or amusing - Cyke or Havok vs. Sinister - they attack him for far more than they should be able to.
Jean vs. Mastermind - he gets lovesick and can't bring himself to attack her.
Xavier vs. Magneto - he attempts to use his telepathy on Magneto and damages Magneto by 10 or so points straight off.
Nightcrawler vs. Toad - he attacks and defends for slightly more than he should (i think)
mildly bad -
Nightcrawler vs. Mystique - he can't attack her the first time
Multiple Man vs. Mastermind - illusions confuse him and he if he's made some multiples alreay he absorbs them backinto himself, and can't make any more
I wonder what happens when you put Polaris against Magneto? hmmm!

I want more special teams, dagnabbit! I'm selecting people who I think should form a "known" roster, and I'm not getting any bonuses. http://www.hostboard.com/ubb/frown.gif
Last night I assembled:
Giant Size X-Men #1 - Cyclops, Nightcrawler, Wolverine, Colossus, Storm
X-Men (post Excalibur, pre Twelve) - Nightcrawler, Shadowcat, Colossus, Wolverine, Storm
Neither one got me anything...need to get them to add a few more teams...Australia might also be a good one (Wolverine, Rogue, Storm, Psylocke, Havok, Colossus...Dazzler and Longshot later on...)
But yes, horribly horribly addictive. I just wish you could choose what skill Psylocke attacks with (she's got 6 in both Fighting and Energy)...it always seems like she's choosing the wrong one to attack with...like Fighting against Sabretooth or Energy against Cassandra.
I'm hoping to get Excalibur together at some point...having two people completely immune to two types of attacks is just wrong...especially since most of the high Strength people have Fighting or Intellect as their secondary, and most of the high Fighting have Strength as their secondary...Shadowcat and Colossus basically get two attacks a round!

I wish Psylocke would use energy against Nova, but since Nova turns Betsy's powers against her...
More special occurances:
Mastermind vs Jean: Mastermind refuses to harm Jean for the first few turns.
Rogue vs Magneto: Well, nothing happens score-wise, he just tells her to stand down, and she tells him she's bringing him even though they might have meant something to each other. (Beat him with her btw).
Rogue vs Mystique: Mystique doesn't hurt Rogue the first turn.
I thought about the Australian team too...it'd make sense. The post excalibur team would work with Gambit and Rogue too. Also, I wonder if you get a double bonus for having the originals, seeing as they were the original X-Factor too http://www.hostboard.com/ubb/wink.gif
Blue and Gold would be sweet too, though I'm not sure which mutant goes where....
Oh yes, Multiple Man is a great adition to non energy users also, if he's hit enough with any attack that's not an energy attack, he gains points for anything but energy, up to 7 each http://www.hostboard.com/ubb/biggrin.gif

eep! don't put Captain Britain vs the Juggernaut! there is a special there.... they are equallyt matched but Juggernaut never misses and ALWAYS gets brian with a counter assault. there is a converation in the beginning where basically it boils down to Jugegrnaut saying they've had this matchup before and he knows Brian is no where near his class....

You know...maybe we should start a collection of special events/bonuses and what-not...that way the 'Crawler boarders can take over the Top 10!
A few more things I've found out...
Xavier vs Juggernaut (paraphrasing):
Juggernaut: "Hey Chuck! Still bald?"
Xavier: "Your rampage will come to an end, Cain. My telepathic powers will see to that!"
Juggernaut: "Aw, did you forget about my helmet again? Your powers can barely touch me!"
Effect: Xavier's powers only do a fraction (half? third? quarter?) of what they normally would vs a 1 Energy. Luckily I threw him in when Juggy was down to 15%, and his first strike let him take him out before Juggernaut slaughtered him. I don't know the exact fraction, but when I attacked, I only did 15%.
Zeitgeist vs Toad:
Toad becomes all star-struck and gets Zeitgeist's autograph and flees the battlescene to tell Phantazia.
Also, on the Xavier vs Magneto, I was able to Mindwipe Magneto for 50 before the battle started...so I'm guessing it's a random amount of damage.
As far as leadership bonuses, Nightcrawler seems to identify the power types of 2 out of the 4 locations, and gives a bonus to defense (very handy for landing a counter-attack when the stats are even).
Arrgh. This game is never going to let me get anything done...

ok i figured out the scoring to an extent. 20 points for every 10% health left over the members of your team. using my 107 score as an example, that gives me 98. so, for some reason i got 9 bonus, i don't know what for exactly, but i got 9 bonus. i am *guessing* beating certain tough characters since it is an odd number, and divisible by 3, i am guessing 3 extra points for each toughie, 3 for Sabretooth, 3 for Apocalypse, and er... 3 for blob? ok tyhat doesn't sound right. maybe 'Tooth counts for 6... ah! i got it, or perhaps for each enemy you defeat with 100 health remaining, that works too, bu with 2... oh man, but that leaves one extra point. actually, that makes much more sense. using that formula to break down my excalibur score, (and the 100 health bonus seems to work here too) i ended up with 17 bonus! so, you if the first bonus is for members with 100 health after you're all done, and wahtever that extra point is for assuming it is still in there, I get 12 bonus for having an actual team.
so, if i had beat the game the first time with getting Britain on my team, and assuming i still had Archangel and used him instead of Brian in the last battle (a lot of assumptions i know, this is sheer theory) I would have gotten 119! cool! i definately have to keep playing with Excalibur till i get that lucky again, hell, i don't even have to get quite that lucky... tho 12 doesn't seem *quite* right... why an odd number like that why not 10? maybe i lost points because i lost wolverine....? or maybe my math is wrong, i'm actually pretty bad at math. and there is the question of the left over point. maybe tghat if for beating the game without Cyke http://www.hostboard.com/ubb/smile.gif

hmmm... humilitaed... *whips out handy-dandy Dark Phoenix Saga book!*..... SHAW??? that 'round and round you go' bit? omg, i never even THOUGHT of trying that matchup... (of course, wouldn't work really without Storm) and to think, all those times i played with the Uncanny team and I let Archangel stay and duke it out with him... i have GOT to try that. just as i was comitted to actually doing my homework, i HAVE to try this...

I just did it, and I advice everyone to do it. There's some refferal to their post-Twelve time, and Lorna's energy gets all weird, resulting in her strength being raised to seven.
Now, Magneto doesn't do much damage against Lorna, seeing as she has level 7 energy, but her strength attacks work great against Mags.
I figure this would also make her quite the lil' opponent for Cassandra Nova.

I'd love it if they added Bastion/Prime Sentinel as villains, and Cecilia Reyes, Sabra, Maggott, and Marrow as new heros. But I guess there isn't enough support.

I love Excalibur!!!
I got 101 with them last night (my night) and would have gotten higher if I had sent Nightcrawler to the fight about which I didn't know a thing (I coulda had him port and then pull him back). I had Xavier as the additional member, and he worked just fine ^__^

Sabra? Well, we've got a rule that any character we add has to have been a member of an X-team at one point, y'see... except for hidden characters of course.
I'm about to put up a poll to vote on new villains for the game, and Bastion's near the top of my list... also thinking Shadow King, Goblin Queen... in case you haven't guessed, we like the classic characters!
As for your '90's X-Men list... well, I guess it's possible we could be convinced, but they're definitely not a priority. We're thinking more along the lines of New Mutants and Exiles (um, Nocturne, anyone?) for next time we add mutants (which might not be for a while, with the other stuff we're planning).

while i do love Exiles, i must admit I go by Nocturne mostly because she is basically a female Nightcrawler (well, she IS his daughter...)
but... Exiles cetainly has potential to be another kick ass team. Exiles version Thunderbird would be VERY cool in X-Assault, Mimic would be plenty cool as well, whatever you decide to do with his power in terms of the game, and who doesn't love Blink? and Nocturne, of couse, everyone LOOOVES Nocturne, right? oh-OH! awesome special with Nocturne against Mystique, please? in Nocturne's favour, naturally.

the only teams besides my miraculous win to get above 100 so far are all Excalibur. Excalibur does kick ass! gah, and i can't play till the weekend, i've oly goitten theExcalibur team that once cause i havent been able to play hardly at all (common sense got the better of me last night on the trying out Nighty against Shaw and i never played). and Nightcrawler in all the top 4 spots! take that, Cyke!

ok, i'll save you all the bother of trying to get Nightcrawler against Shaw, cause it was really quite dissapointing aside form the lil conversation
Shaw - "You will never humiliate me again, Wagner! you and your team are outdated!"
Kurt - "Haven't we been through this before, Herr Shaw? very well if you want to be tossed around a bit more I'll be more than happy to oblige you"
then they just fight, no easy win, i had to pull him out.
i pulled SHADOWCAT to put him in to see what happened! i mean come on! well played with Excalibur agian, with Storm as the extra member. luckily one of the locations was the Braddock Mannor, which, of course they all get a location advantage in, Nightcrawler was really working hard, took out both Apocalypse and Nova, but becuase of my silly matchups and trying him against shaw, i 'only' got a score of 96. oh, and Britain does not do well agianst Nova it turns out, that also dinged my score, cuase i thought, 'i'll put Brian in!' yes he damaged her a lot, softened her up a bit for Nightcrawler, but she hit him harder.
yeah i know i said i couldn't play till the weekend but an assignment tookless time than i anticipated, a takehome test, DAMN it was easy! so i thought i's squeeze a game or two in...

Nova almost always needs to be softened up http://www.hostboard.com/ubb/tongue.gif But I do know strength helps best against her. Rogue and Emma seem more resistant than Brian against energy attacks, and I beat Nova with just Emma, and I only had a location advantage, not a team-bonus.

Iceman vs. Sauron. "Hey Sauron, remember what happened to the dinosaurs during the Ice Age?" Sauron lost 87% of his powers before the battle took place. I'm guessing that 100% would be tghe case if he was at full strength.
Kitty vs. Shaw, Shaw didn't even hit her.
Nightcrawler vs. Shaw, some talk about a previous fight and Kurt beats the crap out of him.
Bad:
Beast vs. Nova, Nova does 30% damage before the battle even starts.
Nightcrawler vs. Sauron, Sauron counterattacks everything.
Doop vs. Nova, don't get me started.

well i woudn't consider some of thsoe specials...
Sauron and Nightcrawler isn't a special they are just evenly matched, if Kurt is on a real team, and if he has location advantage, he can beat Sauron fairly easily, actually.
kitty vs, Shaw... Kitty is immune to strength attacks and she's smarter than him which is his backup attack, so that's just her natural ability coming into play, that happens with her agaisnt all strength characters (excpet blob who gets taken out in about a second and a half, THAT is a special)
but your battle with Nightcrawler vs. Shaw resluted in Shaw getting his ass whooped? what went wrong with me, i wonder??? cause Kurt was doing some damage, but he was gettin hit pretty hard too.
but then, maybe my idea of kicking ass and some others are different as i am no longer happy unless no one on my teams health drops below 65.... maybe 50, against Nova http://www.hostboard.com/ubb/tongue.gif

Emma vs Nova is still a good one, especially where Emma has the surroundings advantage. Emma's one of few who can take out Nova by herself, most others just get their ass handed to them, especially those who're energy-users.

ha-HA! i thought i'd revive the thread by posting my latest triumph. i *almost* got knocked off the high scoreboards last round due to a bug that was giving the Home Team 5 extra points http://www.hostboard.com/ubb/frown.gif but i managed to squeeze my way onto the bottom with a score of 110 with Excalibur at the very last minute, even with the bug.
but tonight with the new version....
my team: Excalibur, with Professor X as the spare.
Professor X defeats Cassandra Nova with 70 health left over
Captain Britain vs. Apocalypse - pulled Brian and put in the Professor... i think Brian coulda won, but i wanted to heal up the Professor
Nightcrawler vs. Shaw. tricky decision, Nigty hits and then hits Shaw with a counterassault (you heard me, a counter-assault) but... anyway, i pulled him and put in Britain until i could get Shadowcat in there.
Shadowcat vs. Sabretooth, he gets her down to 80 *sigh* cold've been worse, right? pulled her and put in Colossus.
Professor (back up to 90) vs. Apocalypse - Chuck soundly whoops Apocalypse's ass, finishing with 90.
Captain Britain vs. Shaw... i discovered a special!!! and a good one! wheee! Black King is TOAST! instant win! (tho i was hoping to put Shadowcat in there to heal her up)actually... i think i got this one before but i had plum forgot about it
