well it didn't SAY..... it was very very stongly implied tho. the clues, in order of appearance:
-Mystique escaped
-Surge's 'restraining pack' veeery suspicious. i think it *generates* electricity
-Wwolverine's not in this arc. the only character that could sniff her out
-Surge is very chummy with Blob and Avalanche, Mystiques msot usual accomplices
-Surge kills some A.R.M guys *including* the leader, very much in Mystique's style
up till now it just leads to suspicion... but then...
- the leader of A.R.M is suddenly alive again claiming to have killed Surge, his proof not a body but his restrainer pack.
-Sunpyre is murdered - the culprits? some shadowy figures - one of which is wielding some electrical energy
- in Mastermind's head, Chamber overhears a conversation with a clearly female character talking about terrorism, assasination etc. Mystiques thing. she obviously also had a past with Banshee, enough that she knows his personality very well. then she makes to atack Chamber, then we cut to reality where he is infact being attacked by....
- Surge, restraining pack and all, miraculously alive again. with the Blob and Avalanche in tow, ready to tear the X-Corps apart from the inside. starting off by frying Chamber.
my conclusion - the miraculous rising from the dead of both the leader of ARM and Surge can only be the work of a shapeshifter. one who happens to share Mystiques style of terrorism of late, and is rather chummy with the Blob and Avalanche, coincidentaly, it appears this person is female.... if that does not scream Mystique....

Well if you are right, that is some amazing deduction. It would be nice to see Mys return to Uncanny. Man right when Casey is flexing his muscles, he is leaving..... Though I still don't forgive him too much for Poptopia, or that Wolv/Phoenix moment. But it has dramatically improved.
Now if we can just get interaction between her and Kurt hmmmm........

It's only been about what....20 YEARS or so (when Claremont 1st hinted that there was a connection between the two) that X-fans have been waiting for some serious and meaningful interaction between MYSTIQUE and NIGHTCRAWLER. And i'm talking about something more than the mediocre X-MEN: Unlimited #4!

I've been a 'Crawler groupie for about 12 years (man...has it been that long?), when I first got into comics...he was in Excalibur at the time...and I just thought he looked so amazingly cool...and he was such a sweetie!
I never thought to check for fellow groupies on the 'net until recently. X-Men Evolution has just hit Cartoon Network here Down Under (sucks that they only have series one)...and I have to admit I liked THAT version better than the priest-in-training in the comics (but that's over with now by the looks of it...), and I was sorta reminded of why I came to like the character in the first place...

I have a bit of a question...and you seem the right guys to ask...
I currently get Uncanny X-Men and New X-Men for my monthly Kurt dosage, and I was wondering if any of the other monthly titles are worth looking at. What kind of Kurtage do X-Treme and Ultimate have? I get my comics mail order so I can't just pick up an issue and take a look. I've just added Evolution to the list (now that I've finally seen the show), and I already get Unlimited...
So...recommendations?

a lot of people enjoy X-Treme.... but I don't. i find the characters flat and the dialogue is horrid. also the characters can jsut pull powers outa their ass to do anything! Lifeguard's power is to literally 'do whatever is needed'! her brother Davis, a lame ass surfer, had his latent mutation triggered by Sage. he ends up a teleporter, whadda ya know, right as they happen to need a teleporter. and Rogue has all the powers of everyone she's absorbed... i mean, it's like nothing they face will ever *really* be a threat becuase one of them will be able to take care of the problem with the merest twitch of their finger... ok i'm ranting now. i'll stop.
Ultimate is good though! not much Nightcrawler lately, but the storyarc he was in he was really cool http://www.hostboard.com/ubb/smile.gif and according to Mark Millar, he will be showing up again soon, along with Shadowcat, Gambit, Psylocke and Mystique! I will preface this with the thought that everyone has his or her own preferences.
Now- I read all three core books, and I think Uncanny is far superior, just as I think New is better than both Uncanny and X-Treme. I used to like Chris Claremont, and I do like a few of the things he's done in X-Treme by bringing back old characters. But I agree in large part with Nocturne. It basically sucks. The convenient powers syndrome is just too much. I keep getting it in the hopes it will get better, and it is good sometimes. The annual was cool, as was the issue with Ororo and Jean.
Uncanny has had it's rough spots, but Casey is getting better all the time. If Nocturne's right about Mystique, and I think she is, it's one of the best things that's been done with her character for a long while. She'll be in a position of real power, maybe even two positions, and will be able to manipulate the hell out of everyone and everything. Judging Uncanny solely by 404 is unfair, as that issue is smack in the middle of a storyline. If you want a better representation of Uncanny, read 400, or the annual, both of which were great.

exactly, Casey is merely working with what he's got, if Claremiont hadn't made him into a priest in training, i doubt any of us would have any problems with Nightcrawler's characterization because Casey would be writing him as his old self. http://www.hostboard.com/ubb/mad.gif Casey has said himself he is a big Nightcrawler fan, that is why he chose him. but he, like most of us, was a fan before the priest bit, he is trying to get him outa the collar, but he is doing so slowly so it is a tad more realistic than the sudden change *to* a priest, and i think he is toning down his personality right now so that when he is out of the collar, the change will be more obvious. atleast be thankful that Casey is making him into a leader again. admittedly, Kipiniak has done a better job with Kurt being a priest in training, but then again, i highly doubt anyone would want Uncanny to be based around a church, unless it was integral to the specific story, such as the Church Of Humanity.
he obvioulsy understands the characters chosen, and how to write different types of characters. his Archangel, Iceman and Chamber are all spot on, (after a few rough spots in the beginning). and just the few scenes wiht the Gen X gals, and Banshee, those are all really in character too, Paige's shy, Jubilee's spunky, M is arrogant, very in character. except the parts where the X-Men themselves said Banshee was not acting himself, so it was on purpose, so was Banshee. trust me this departure from Kurt's old self is not an accident or sloppy writing, it is for a reason. (ok Multiple Man is out of character, but again, i feel a reason will be revealed soon)
whew. you certainly can tell i am leader of the Defenders of Uncanny over at X-Fan can't ya?
for me, of the 3 core boks, at first New was in first place with me, with Uncanny in second, X-Treme in third. lately tho, Uncanny has nosed ahead of New with the X-Corps. it's damn good reading. why i like it, Caseys writing in general, but this particular arc especially, is this; you are not a passive reader, you are expected to infer things and pick up clues and figure them out for yourself. if you do not do that, if you merely read through it and take everything at face value without trying to figure out things, you will not enjoy it as much. half the fun of the X-Corps so far for me is playing detective to figure out Surge was Mystique! all will be revealed eventually, but in the mean time it keeps you thinking and guessing wiht all the little clues scattered around, some are genuine, some are red herrings. the true ones are not quite enough to totally give it away with absolute certainty, so when the grand reveal comes you are either blown away in shock, or patting yourself on the back for getting it right. http://www.hostboard.com/ubb/smile.gif i like that. also i like that it is not reliant on captions and thought bubbles. do you need a narrator to tell you things while watching a tv show, tell you what a character is feeling? no. why should you in a comic, when a picture can speak a thousand words, as they say?

well i guess all will be resolved about her involvement next issue. as for the others, why not jsut try and forget em? i agree Poptopia was not exactly stellar, but Casey is a damn good writer, he really is. he was just off with that one arc... i rather liked the first issue, with Warp Savant. just forget the infamous kiss and read it for what it really is - a story about the effect of media on the youth.
anywho... i jsut noticed Sean Phillips - while overall his Nightcrawler is lookng better and better every issue, forgot to draw his tail! he has his tail for one panel in the entire book [img]tongue.gif[/img]

Yes Casey is good, I wasn't trying to harp on him. I actually enjoyed his Wildcats, I was just trying for comparison. Between his stumble and his eventual flow. I wasn't bashing, at least I didn't mean too.
