I was watching an episode from the first season of Ren & Stimpy (those were the days!) when i noticed something...
Ren: "Put your hand on the screen and repeat after me. 'I swear to only watch Ren & Stimpy. Heh, and to make underleg noises during the good scenes? And to wear unwashed lederhosen everyday for the rest of my life! That's it! Your in our secret club!"
Hm....?
-
Lol.That is funny Garble.Gosh I havent seen "Ren and Stimpy" in ages. The writers of "Evolution"were probably fans.

But of COURSE they were fans...it's only the GREATEST CARTOON EVER MADE!
Anybody remember the 'don't wizz on the electric fence' episode?
-Rex
-
Ugggghhh.....I hated Ren & Stimpy. It was just gross...although I still walk around singing the jingle to "Log" commercial on random occastions.
"What rolls down stairs,
alone or in pairs,
and runs over your neighbor's dog.
What fits on your back,
is great for a snack,
It's Log, Log, Log!
It's Laaa-og, Laaa-og,
it's big it's heavy, it's wood.
It's Laaa-og, Laaa-og,
It's better than bad, it's good!
Everyone wants a Log,
Everyone likes a Log,
You'd better get a Log..."
And then I trail off cuz I dont remember the rest, I don't think there was to much more.
Those were the best parts. I didn't like it, but I watched it. I was what? 12? Besides, there was nothing else on.
"Well, sir, I don't like it!"
Besides, everyone knows that it's a tie between Thundercats and He-Man for the greatest cartoon ever. Yessir, when cartoons were good! And made in Japan! And recycled scenes over and over! And had to have a moral put in at the end! And were spawned by toys, not the otherway around! DAMN STRAIGHT! THE 80s RULED!!
(And no, none of that was sarcastic, and neither is this, or that, or any of this!)
-
Okay, yeah, Thundercats WAS really good. I actually rented a few episodes of it some months back, to see if it stood the test of time. My memories of it are so emotional; it was just so powerful to me then, at the tender age of 8 or whatever (when WAS it on, anyhow?) Watching it now, I started to notice how silly the dialogue was...I guess I've just grown up into a sour, humorless adult http://www.hostboard.com/ubb/smile.gif

-
Hehe. You tell 'em Knighty! I didn't watch Ren and Stimpy. Ahhh, Japanimation of the eighties. I watched He-Man and Thundercats religiously. And Voltron.
SNARF!

Uhh ... *slobber* ... Voltron ... That was my other sentimental favorite. I was absolutely addicted. That one really WAS from Japan; I don't think Thundercats was, though, was it?
But Ren&Stimpy was great, I tell you! It was kinda gross, admitted, but how can you NOT love a show where somebody falls in love with a chicken sausage? http://www.hostboard.com/ubb/smile.gif
-Rex
-
All of those were from Japan. They were all animated over there, when Japan had a weaker economy and everything was cheaper to make over there. So it's all technically Japanese, although they were funded by American companies and were made with American themes and American voices. There's your cartoon history less on for today. Oh, and Rex, I have EVERY SINGLE episode of Thundercats on tape, not to mention about 70 episodes of He-Man. I had a Voltron sleeping bag, and I had one of the cats. It sucked, my friends all had parents who sprung the $60 for all 5 cats, which combined into...VOLTRON!!!! Spoiled brats! OH well, I had more He-Man figs than ANYBODY!! ANYBODY I TELL YOU!!! Well, not really. I wish I still had all of those...*sniffle*
-
Oh c'mon guys Ren and Stimpy was hilarious! But the animation was crude,it seemed they showed every pimple, hair and bodily fluid.Yes it was raunchy but it was funny as heck.Knighty that song cracks me up! http://www.hostboard.com/ubb/biggrin.gif
How can anybody not mention Transformers???They were AWESOME.

I LOVE THE TRANSFORMERS!!! I HAD TRANSFORMERS BEDSHEETS!!!!!!
-
Transformers were good, but I just didn't connect with them as much. Does anyone remember that Thundercats rip-off Silverhawks? It wasn't nearly as good, in fact it was kinda bad, but I loved it. guess it reminded me of Thundercats http://www.hostboard.com/ubb/biggrin.gif
-Rex
-
Ooohhh...Transformers. I loved them! I was the only girl on the block that had the figures. Everybody thought I was nuts. Well, that could be because I slept with them. *ahem* Don't look at me like that! I wish I still had them. Ah, those were the days.
http://www.hostboard.com/ubb/biggrin.gif
-
I remember Silverhawks too! They're on Cartoon Network now! I loved them, but now I think they're pretty bad. Oh, and they were voiced by almost the exact same people as Thundercats. There was maybe 2 people different.
-
Hey Knighty I have the movie on video!Right there for me whenever I need to satisify my nostalgia.Didnt we have the best toys and cartoons when we were kids?I say death to Pokemon! http://www.hostboard.com/ubb/biggrin.gif

Hey Slar! How's that fanfic going? http://www.hostboard.com/ubb/biggrin.gif
Yeah, my love for Silverhawks is pretty much a sentimental attachment...I can't justify it. And yeah, they basically just moved the whole cast over...they probably only signed one contract. The one I specifically remember was Lion-o and the guitar-playing guy, Bluegrass was it?
-Rex
-
Gack! Pokemon! Molest me not with those foul creatures. It's bad enough that I have to watch Pokemon Kareokemon waiting for Evolution to come on. "Pika" this, you little...

I liked the Tape Player guy! He was awesome. Soundscream or some such nonsense was his name. I'm not sure. Yeah, Lion-O was Bluegrass, and Mumm-Ra was Mon-Star.
-
Oooohhh....Jetfire, yup, had it! I actually had a slew of Go-bots too...they were reeaally cheap so my parents bought lots of 'em. I would pretend they were Transformers.

DRAGS if I remember correctly I think the Brontosaurus was named 'SNARL'.
While I enjoy watching Beast Wars and Beast Machines, a part of me wants em to give the Computer Animation treatment to the CLASSIC characters!
O.K. i'm going to throw out a few more names...hopefully i'm not the only Gen Xer to remember em!
1.) Battle of the Planets
Also called G-FORCE and known in Japan as 'Science Ninja team' I used to go crazy over this show!
2.) Galaxy Rangers
So few gen Xers know what i'm talking about when I bring this show up! It ran for like one season on weekday afternoons...
Kinda like a team of Space Cowboys/Marshals that had cybernetic implants that gave em powers. Would really like to find this show!
BAMF!

To young to remember most of those cartoons. But I still watch Thundercats sometimes, the show still kinda stinks, but y'gotta love that theme song. "Thundercat's are one the move feel the magic, hear the roar, thundercats're loose." Then they just say thundercat's over and over. Used to watch Beast Wars too, Dinobot ruled. I always liked Ren and Stimply, especially when Stimpy had Ren read him those weird stories. What the heck is Silverhawks? Never ever heard of that tv show.
-
So it was Snarl,Thanks BAMF!
Battle of the Planets?I remember it as G-Force though. And yeah it was pretty cool.
Galaxy Rangers on the otherhand-Ive always heard of them but didnt actually see a glimps of it until the Cartoon Network.

Yeesh! Any animation fans in the house?
I mention 1 cartoon, walk away for a day and look what happens.
The first season of R&S was gold, but after that it just became overly gross and redundant.
The winner for best cartoon is Transformers though. I can't go back and watch He-Man or Thundercats now without wincing at how silly they seem now that i'm an adult. But Transformers never looses it's apeal.
I'd also just like to throw out that Gargoyles was one of the best shows ever made. And The Simpsons continues to rule.
-
Hey Garble I agree,I cannot get into the Thundercats reruns on the Cartoon Network. They just seem lame now.And I know the same thing would go for He-Man.
But Transformers are forever. This show was ahead of its time and still stands up today. And Voltron is still good to me too.

Ah, I'm speaking here as one old enough to remember "The Battle of the Planets" the first time around. That one was pretty good.
Still, my favourite animation in recent time was "Two Stupid Dogs". Can't quite explain why, but I loved that one. I guess it's my nostalgic trait showing...

SNIKT that old SUPER MARIO BROS. movie gets my vote!

Ahh, the nostalgia. I watched them all with my big brother. I liked Bumble Bee the best and wanted to be Cheetara. Regarding Voltron, He was going to get the lion set, and I was going to get the cars (although, they were not nearly as cool). But each piece cost a whopping ELEVEN DOLLARS - a lot of money for the little girl I was back then! Needless to say, we only got as far as getting the main lion. Anyhoo, anyone watch "Starblazers?" Ah, memories...
