Downloading DotComics

Ok, to get my mind off things for a while, can someone please tell me how to properly run this? Ehr, I've been fighting with my computer again. I have it downloaded, but don't know how to run/open/"unzip" it. I need to get Quicktime, right?

Haya, gnahrf! Thanks, I didn't know what program was required. But since I've already got Flash, now I have no idea what is wrong with the download. I mean, it has downloaded, but I can't extract the program when I double click on it and I was guessing it was because I didn't have the right prog. Oh, boy, I'm stuck again! Back to sparring with the monitor...

You need Winzip to extract the program.

Then double click the program that is extracted. It should load up into a window.

Winzip is free and is all you need to unzip the files. Simply run the program it is free. But you will need an active internet connection to register the program, basically starting the program the first time you run it. And you will need an active internet connection to download the other Dot Comics.

Or even easier, press enter when the file is selected or double click on it. This will open up the Flash Player (which you very probably have installed if you can view Flash on the Internet).

But I must ask, do you really like the DotComics? I hate the commercials and the way the panels come up one at a time... It takes a lot of time and also is quite disturbing.

I like that it's free. I don't feel that it takes much time but maybe it just depends on your computer. This one is fast, I think. How do you judge that sort of thing?

1. Free!!!!!!!!!!!!
2. Actual comics that are published and exist in normal continuity. Not like the previous Cybercomics which were basically what-if type stories.
3. Can read without having to worry about damaging you comics. A major plus to the hard-core collector.
4. Ease of use. Point and click

Bad
1. The ads - I really dont have a problem with this, but as others pointed it out I listed it. I can tolerate it, because well they need something to help cover the cost of putting a free comic online.
2. Single Panel click. Dont have a problem with this either. But I can't think of another way todo this. If you have suggestion write to marvel.

My small vain hope, NC mini-series sells so well that Marvel is justified to put the issues out as dotcomics. http://www.hostboard.com/ubb/smile.gif I would then have my hardcopies, the comics, and the Dot Comic version. The actual comic to sedate my need for the printed form. And the online version to help keep wear down on the real thing.

This is a short list, as I didn't have time to put too much thought into it, feel free to add to it.

Anyways, the thing about Downloading the comics though was due to the fact that this friend that I have was in dire need of such a maneuver and doesn't have access to a computer as I do. LOL! ...there's a difference? Actually, that particular ad gets me cracking up everytime it pops up...don't know why...must be the effect of it popping up right after seeing, say, Wolverine in the process of making sushi out of someone or something like that...

Flash files end with .swf

The dotcomic files that are downloaded end with this .swf as well

to view them without the dotcomic player, just drag the file into a internet explorer window

*shrugs* I find that clicking on the ads takes about as much time as turning the page of a real comic. (Except for the occasional crudely animated ad that takes a bit longer.) If you're waiting more than a second or two for regular ads, then... your computer is slower than mine.

And speaking of slow... why aren't you people posting more?! Man, if this goes on much longer, I'll have to start/bring back a Jeff Martin thread and talk to myself for a while! Although with KC back (even if he hasn't been posting I can sense him lurking in the shadows http://www.hostboard.com/ubb/tongue.gif) it wouldn't last too long.
