Well on to some uplifting news.
The game will be now available on Wednesday the 19 through most of the states. Shipping got kinda messed up.
I found a PS2 game Cd that had a preview of the game on it. I found it at a local computer game store. YOu get to play one full round, up to 3 fights. Like most fighters best 2 out of 3 fights whens. Then the game resets and you play another level 1 round.
Very cool. I have played a couple of times, well maybe more than a couple. The special moves are way cool, and are executed similar to Street Fighter. The get behind your opponent port, for example. At least thats what I call it. Press down then away from your opponent and at the same time presh the kick button. Kinda like executing Ryu's cyclone kit special in SF II.
The demo was fairly simple, the opponent wasn't tough, but then it is only a demo and is mostly toned down. The play control was very cool and fluid. I haven't had any problems. All the special effects sounds are there. The only thing missing was the voice over intros. NC's "enguard" was missing, but thats okay.

Cool!
When Hsu was at the Comic Con (man I love living in San Diego) I got to play it. I only won one round cuz the other guy was REALLY good. I of course always played the elf. The round I won was when I pulled off Mr. Toads wild ride, where you grab the opponent and teleport them all across the screen. It's easy to block or dodge but it if hits then it auto kills. SWEET! http://www.hostboard.com/ubb/biggrin.gif
------------------
-
http://www.hostboard.com/ubb/biggrin.gif OH YEAH! http://www.hostboard.com/ubb/biggrin.gif
BAMFCENTRAL I absolutely cannot wait for this game. (I'll try to resist going into a "I've-been-waiting-most-of-my-video-game-junkie-life-for-NIGHTCRAWLER-to-be-in-a-quality 3-D fighting-game" rant http://www.hostboard.com/ubb/wink.gif )
While a lot of my fellow Tekken/StreetFighter addicts didnt really like the game play of the 1st Mutant Academy, I couldnt get enough of it. True, it doesnt play as smoothly as those other games, but the thrill of using the X-characters and those kick a@@ slow-motion supermoves (especially the BEAST's "Siesmic Smackdown" and CYKE's "Mega optic blast") more than made up for it! Oh yeah and the cool little animation sequences you can unlock for each character are awesome as well!
Whenever i'd play the first Academy i'd wonder at how incredible it would be to have Nightcrawler in it....NOW I"M JUST THREE DAYS AWAY FROM FINDING OUT!!!! http://www.hostboard.com/ubb/biggrin.gif http://www.hostboard.com/ubb/biggrin.gif http://www.hostboard.com/ubb/biggrin.gif

http://www.hostboard.com/ubb/eek.gif This sounds like a good game! Regretfully it's a fighting game though... But you who (will) play it must promise me to become Nightcrawler experts and totally beat/exterminate/humiliate every single opponent of yours - with Nightcrawler of course. http://www.hostboard.com/ubb/wink.gif
-
I never played the 1st game, probably will rent it to see the difference. The sequel played very smoothly.
The only problem I have is executing the special combo moves. So I haven't done the teleport your opponent all over the screen yet. I started playing the games way back in school, my first experiences where before combos became the norm in fighting games. I never could execute the combos so I would generally just use the special moves and normal attacks. So trying to do these combo moves is a bit of a challenge for me.
There was one move I did by accident, but couldn't figure it out again. I grabbed cyclops head with my tail and flipped him over onto the ground. http://www.hostboard.com/ubb/smile.gif A very cool move, but I dont know how I did it http://www.hostboard.com/ubb/frown.gif

I like the pool arena! All the characters are in there baithing suits!
Hsu wants to see his fave fuzzy elf sporting the shorts!

Oh...how insane am I? I just bought a PS1, a blue controller, a blue memory card, and Mutant Academy 2 two hours ago...
Already beaten it in Arcade Mode with Kurt once, and gone through Academy Mode with him as well. For beating Arcade Mode, you get access to his end movie. For going through Academy Mode (Prof gives you instructions and you follow them...attacks, specials, and combos) you get a third costume - the original one!
So far it's pretty fun. His teleport slash, slide kick, and Ping-Pong combo are the best. With the Ping Pong Combo, you kick them into the air, teleport above them, kick them down to the ground, then teleport back down to the ground just in time to kick them all the way across the screen. Much easier to connect with than his other two supers (Mr. Wagner's Wild Ride, and "The Matrix" as I call them). But if you can get "The Matrix" to connect, it is so worth it.
I'm sure there's more to unlock...I should have waited until tomorrow to buy this...I'm going to be so worthless at work tomorrow...

Happy you found it Darkholme, jealous but happy. At least, somebody is getting to play the game. I do have my demo to keep me company, but it isn't the same.
I am going to try and find it later today.
Okay does anybody know how to release the bathing suit characters or the other 4 hidden characters yet?

BAMFCENTRAL you dont have it yet?! Oh boy, you are in for a HUGE treat! I went on a hunt for it yesterday and finally found it just as I was about to give up! I've had it since yesterday afternoon and literally fell asleep last night with the game still on and the controller in my hand!
Screw the review, this game is awesome!! I'm happy to say that Nightcrawler is one of the games best characters, and if you can get a good handle on his teleportation moves he's almost untouchable! DARKHOLME youre right about how tricky it is to try and land Kurt's supers. The trick is to either try and execute them right after youve landed a combo, ( when your up close and punishing your opponent ) or catch someone just as they are trying to hit you!
SPOILER!

.
.
The GamePro review sorta gives away who some of the secret characters are so I guess I can tell ya about how utterly surprised I was to find out that amazingly, (pardon the pun) my other favorite acrobatic wallcrawler is in this game!!! As if I wasnt excited enough about playing with NIGHTCRAWLER, SPIDER-MAN is actually one of the hidden characters!!!!! ( http://www.hostboard.com/ubb/biggrin.gif http://www.hostboard.com/ubb/biggrin.gif http://www.hostboard.com/ubb/biggrin.gif!!! )
BAMFCENTRAL I havent unlocked the bathing suit/pool background yet, (wow!) but last night Spidey became available when I was going through ARCADE mode playing with Storm. Right after I beat Cyclops in Sentinel ravaged New York, SPIDEY was my next opponent!! (Wich had me yelling like a 4 year old let me tell ya!)
As soon as I log off i'm heading right back to playing and i'm thinking about calling in 'sick' for work tonight! (JK but the thought did cross my mind!)

Press the small kick and medium punch buttons at the same time. It's worth it, but try and be a little of a distance from your opponent when you do this, otherwise they will take advantage.
Post here after you accomplish. http://www.hostboard.com/ubb/smile.gif

Why can't it be for DC?!?! I can't afford to buy a Ps1 specially when all I want is 1 game!!
I cannot find ANY codes for it! I'll keep looking!
------------------
-
Well, another few hours wasted on the game...still getting used to the controls and the controller...
So far I've unlocked one hidden character and one additional costume for each character. Plus I've beaten it with 'crawler, Forge, Wolverine, and Gambit, so now I can see their end movies at any time. But Beast cheats so much!
And I beat Spider-Man but I didn't unlock him...guess I'll have to try harder...
*sigh* I still can't believe I bought a PS for this...

In some deep recesses of my mind, I've been thinking. It goes something like this:
Should I buy the game?
Would love to, but I'm not in to fighting games.
Well, it's Nightcrawler - maybe I should buy it anyway...
Oh, then I need to buy a consol.
That reminds me, I don't have a TV!
Oh, bullocks on seven plates, I can't afford this! http://www.hostboard.com/ubb/frown.gif

Most my friends just play because they think it's a good game or that they must beat this or that, I just play for fun and really is in the game - so when I win, they get really pissed off! http://www.hostboard.com/ubb/biggrin.gif
p. s. I like your idea about the garbage sale.

I have been having trouble with the game. Mostly, I guess because I haven't played this type of game in years.
Heck I bought a PS2 and then the game http://www.hostboard.com/ubb/smile.gif. Haven't regretted it since the purchase. Though I do need to start and try to get more sleep.
SPOILERS FOR THOSE WHO HAVENT PLAYED
I actually had to start playing the easy level just to get warmed up http://www.hostboard.com/ubb/frown.gif. But I did manage to unlock SM. {I simply unlocked him by beating Cyclops and then beating SM} SM doesn't appear exactly on the character screen. You move over cyclops then press and hold 'L1' Cyclops portrait should be replaced by SM. Then press O for the black costume or X for the red and blue. This of course will only work if you beat SM in the game. Who did you unlock Darkholme? Right now I am doing okay, but I am still having trouble executing the combos.
Beast and Sabertooth I have the most trouble with. I tend to attack and retreat. If I get to close they clobber me. Retreating is easy with NC.

Being how I am VERY video game oriented and have also had trouble deciding on a console I think this is what I'll do.
Buy a PS2 (second choice but oh well)
Buy MA2
Play MA2 until I pass out.
Get other games for PS2
Now I need some money...
------------------
-
gnahrf, I know what you mean. I'm not a big fan of fighting games either. The last one I played was SoulCaliber for Dreamcast (I think) and while I won 7 games out of 9, that's just because my "offensive strategy" (hit random buttons while advancing and hope) was more effective than usual. (My noble opponent totally kicked my ass on Marvel vs Capcom.)
I would like to try playing MA2, though. Maybe in ten years when the PS2 or whatever is outdated and going at garage sales for twenty bucks. Yeah, that sounds about right.

Oh yeah. There was some shouting going on, mostly him ("You said you sucked! You lie!") but since I didn't know what I was trying to do, the moving in sync was difficult. I only do that on one game, Diddy Kong Racing, where when I fly the plane, I move the controller through the air in the way I want the plane to go while screaming and swearing at it. I think it helps. http://www.hostboard.com/ubb/wink.gif
Garbage sale? Is that a typo or do you really not have garage sales in Sweden? Where people put price stickers on all their old junk, set it up on tables in their garage and advertise in the newspaper? "Hey! We've got piles of junk in our garage! Come and get it! Cheap!"
------------------
"Let's just file it under U for uncanny and move on."
-
Oh, I didn't notice I spelled it 'garbage'... But there isn't really a difference, most of it is garbage anyway (so perhaps there was an unconsious correction of my spelling).
Well, we do have garage sales in Sweden, not to the extent as in USA, but they occur but we tend to call all such things for markets (even if it's only one person selling anything). Sadly, though, they have diminished the last couple of years. http://www.hostboard.com/ubb/frown.gif

Thanks for the tips! http://www.hostboard.com/ubb/smile.gif I was wondering what you had to do for the other extras. Spiderman was the easiest to unlock, I think the game will gain even more popularity once SM fans figure out hes in it.
100 survival in a row huh? http://www.hostboard.com/ubb/frown.gif Best I have managed so far is 32. I kept getting Beast, Sabertooth, and Wolverine thrown at me. And once had to go agaisn't the computer playing nightcrawler. Man I could barely keep up with all the bamfing. Yeah, it is mostly garbage. They're still very popular in all the places I've lived. I used to spend Saturday mornings driving to all the garage sales. It was a family thing.

Just of keen curiousity, how much do a PS2 cost? And the game itself? (You make it sound so darn interesting.)
-
PS2 about 299
X MA 2 about 40
PS1 memory card 15 (PS2 memory card didn't work for me with this game; I do recommend this, after you unlock all the items and dont save it is a painstaking process to reunlock everthing. Or just wait for the MA2 hint book to come out {or search internet} and find the code that unlocks enerything, then no memory card is needed.)
It isn't exactly cheap, but the nice thing about the PS2 is that it will also work as a DVD player http://www.hostboard.com/ubb/smile.gif. The thing to watch for is to make sure the plug that goes to your TV is the correct one, it is one of those 3 pronged ones, you may or may not need an adapter. Depending on what electronical equipment you already have.

Hey Darkholme, who else have you beaten the game with?
I beat it with Rogue, just barely, and Psylocke. But Juggernaut didn't unlock.
Have you figured out how to unlock Xavier yet? I was thinking maybe beating it with Beast or Mags, but I am not good enough with those characters to get far.

Combos and throws are the key to beating these two. And don't be afraid to use your counter (L1)...you may only have three per match, but if you knock them back you can start your combos again (My favorite being the teleport slash followed by a jump and axle rotation).
Too much fun...although yesterday I actually found myself looking at PS games...something I thought I would never do...accursed Activision.

Doh! What I meant above was that I only had Psylocke & Rogue left to beat the game with. You have to beat it with the 15 regular characters (don't have to win with Spidey) to unlock Juggernaut.

quote:
Have you figured out how to unlock Xavier yet? I was thinking maybe beating it with Beast or Mags, but I am not good enough with those characters to get far.

Once you beat the game with Juggernaut (pretty much can just use his throws to win), Xavier will be unlocked (highlight Magneto and hold down L1). Xavier doesn't have too many moves, being in a wheelchair and all, but he is too much fun to play with. Especially his throw. And his "Wheelchair Dervish" X-Special. Once you beat it with him, you get a little movie that shows the highest damage combos for everyone.
I still have to beat it with Spidey...hopefully that will unlock the Movie costumes. I know they're in there...they've shown up in the demos. I think it's only for the original 10 Mutant Academy people, but still. And I haven't had a block of time to commit to beating 100 rounds of survival mode, but I'm pretty sure I can do it with Nightcrawler.
Maybe tonight...

Yep...it works. Or at least unlocks everything I've heard about so far (no movie costumes though...). Pool Party battlefield for VS. mode is just wrong...
Some of the changes...
Sabretooth has water wings.
Forge & Mystique wield Super Soakers.
Gambit is now brandishing a pool skimmer.
Magneto has a beach towel tied around his neck as a cape.
and as for Kurt...
He's wearing red sunglasses, wielding a spatula (for flipping burgers on the grill), and has a red Speedo. Yes, ladies, your favorite fuzzy elf is wearing a Speedo. I don't have any way to capture images from my TV, but I'm sure some pics of it will show up at some point.

still going to try to unlock it the regular way at some point...

Juggernaut to unlock Xavier makes sense.
I already beat it with spidey. His crazed leaping really helps to get around your opponent. But I dont remember anything unlocking.
And as for survival, only made it so far to 42 wins with NC. Beast and Sabre, in the later rounds, become increasingly difficult.
I remeber the movie costumes aswell, but maybe it was an early build of the game. Back when they were previewing it. But Wolverine is suppose to have 4 costumes so maybe they are still in there. Maybe you have to beat so many rounds of survival mode with a character from the movie to unlock his/her costume. I am going to try that tonight. Probably Wolverine he's the easiest to beat up people with.

Possibly not the biggest fan of kurt here, but I love him and his antics nonetheless.

I am crazy about this game!
Was out of town for a little while and of course I had to take my PS1 and MA2 with me!
BAMFCENTRAL I did that trick with the kick and punch buttons...too cool! Some of the characters taunts are hilarious. Just what the heck is Kurt saying with his though? It almost sounds like he's saying "Pretty flash, Ja?" but that doesnt seem to make too much sense. Anyone know what he's saying?
(love that pool party mode!)
http://www.hostboard.com/ubb/biggrin.gif
BAMF!
-
Oh wow he has two taunts?
I've gotta try to get the other one to come up!
Oh and you arent kidding about his showboating.
I bought my little brother a copy and we're already having tournaments with a bunch of our game addicted friends.
I'm pretty good using BEAST, PSYLOCKE and CYCLOPS but it's at the point now where they refuse to play me if I pick NIGHTCRAWLER!
My Nightcrawler bias notwithstanding, he is hands down THE most fun character to play in the game! Not to mention the most frustrating character to play against if you can get his 'porting down pat. Teleporting just as your opponent trys to land a super move on you? FANTASTICH! My kid brothers' become a Spidey expert, and so far he's the only one that can keep up with me when I play with Kurt.
Oh and did you guys know that you can link Nightcrawlers' supermoves!?! http://www.hostboard.com/ubb/biggrin.gif
Right after you catch and stun someone with his "popular excursion" multiple port super, you can go right into the "tele-combo". (wich of course can be charged up to induce even more damage!)
Or if you really want to humble some one after the multiple port stuns em, hit jab and then go right into his "High in the Sky" 'Matrix' super! (Sweet!)
BAMF!

In a speedo with a spatula...I like it! I guess there's no way anyone can post a picture....?

I believe he has two taunts, but I am not sure. I will have to try and see.
The one I do know about is roughly what you said. I always thought he said "Pretty Flashy, NO?"
Both versions make sense actually. He is a showboat and his game moves are designed to emphasize this. http://www.hostboard.com/ubb/wink.gif
