Hey, I found some more preview pics from the Nightcrawler Mini-series over at this site. No color (black&white only), nor dialogue, but need I still say SPOILER? Check it out:

After a while of repeated trying I finally saw the preview pics. That isn't Nightcrawler! I'm perhaps pessimistic and awful when saying this, but I find it to be the truth.
Sure, he might be blue, have a fuzzy appearance and have the luck to have elfish ears... He might also have a name that is the same as *my* Nightcrawler, but that isn't Nightcrawler! No way. Perhaps a relative? An uncle? He seems older, more feature less, un-elfish and simply not a crawler at all! http://www.hostboard.com/ubb/frown.gif
I will buy these issues, but truth to tell, there comes doubts every now and then. Blah, blah, blah... That's me, I hope you like this look, so someone's happy anyway!

I, for one, think its very good.
NC is drawn consitantly the same in each panel. His appearance doesn't alter. The drawings while appearing simple and cartoony are very detailed and flow together very nicely.

It's very nice in its way...but I like my crawler skinny, a little boyish, and more animal like in his movements.
Taste aside, it is very well done as a comic.

He looks old. Like, Nick Fury old. Wait... that nose. That chin. That jaw. Grandpa?! Jesus! Eeeew! I swear it, he looks just like my grandpa. In that one panel on the second page where he turns toward the man on the pew... I guess they're going for the rugged German-type features.

I agree that he does look a lot older and the shadowing makes him looth I dunno. I guess it adds to the oldness.

When I see NC depicted as kinda ugly I always think back to Giant Size X-men #1. He was butt-ugly in those days. Sure, I like a cute and fuzzy NC too, but it's in certain ways missing the point: the point of the character is that he is a shockingly ugly guy with a fine character. You would run hard if you met him in the streets.
And that's why the not too polished look in this preview sits fine with me, actually. It goes back to the source.
Besides it will look far less sharp when colored.

BC , you are right , at least things are consistant from one panal to the next (UN-like Whatever is going on at 616).
Elwing I have never thought of NC as ugly , Scary and Weird , but not Ugly.

What bugs me is the art is... good (consistent, clean, etc.) but ugly. This does not look like the Kurt Wagner I know. It is gonna drive away new fans who might be trying to get into the comic from the evo side... OH Alan Davis, where art thou?
As a side note. Uncanny has slipped so far and lost so many readers in my area that the local Comic shop (the only one in like 200 miles) will not carry it on shelf any more. You can still get it in your box but they want the assurance you will buy.

I'm with Fasheem, Pandora and BamfKat on this one. This rendition of Kurt is ugly and pretty sterile, if you ask me. Despite the consistancy (always a good thing), I am not liking the overall artwork, not just Kurt, but in general. Of course I will still buy it (have to show support for the Elf, after all), but they could have done A LOT better. But I used to have the original NC limited series, so perhaps I'm wrongly comparing this one to the other, which I was very fond of.
Oh well. At least Ultimate Kurt is well-drawn. Now if only they'd keep him in the series and give him more pannels.

Elwing, I liked Kurt's demonic features in Giant-Sized. The narrow face and nose, and the prominent chin... *sigh* The detail of the ears...
And just a side note: My mother thinks that Evo Kurt is the ugliest thing she's ever seen. Absolutely hideous. So my point is, it doesn't matter how fine or cute his features are, he'll still be freaky-looking to most people.

Oh, I used to be little-miss-gother-than-thou, too, Pandora! Though now It's more of a spooky-punk-hybrid thing. But it is true that the average person would find Kurt (even adorable little Evo Kurt) to be quite creepy and even ugly. Just be thankful we're not average people! But I've been a Kurt fan since JR High School. Old X-Men and Excalibur were my favorite comic books. Kurt's demonic-elfin appearance was always really appealing to me, and the character is just so cool.

He is pretty ugly and I don't really like his feature change at all. But...Elwing does have a very pertinent point. If this Nightcrawler has the same very appealing and interesting character, it will still be Nightcrawler.
Then again, I probably won't ever buy the thing anyway because I have a crappy comics store. But I'll show my support nonetheless.
After all, a lot of people would reject NC just on the basis that he has a devil tail, regardless of what else he looks like.

HC, old doesn't automatically mean ugly, ya know! Kurt is in his thirties at the latest and there are men older than that who look damn fine. I could really go for him as an older (non-priest) man.

Kurt is a little heavier looking than normal, and I really cant stand the 'Leno' chin, but I actually like the art too.
Just from those few panels it looks like the storytelling is going to be pretty good. The artist may just need an issue or two to really refine his Nightcrawler. (I hope!)
Very true, Kurt started out as being pretty ugly. Surly and bitter....truly monstrous.
I like his later interpretation better: A really good looking guy who just happens to be blue, have fangs, yellow eyes, a tail etc. I always liked how the occasional non-mutant lady would look at him and despite his obvious mutation think "Wow he's cute!"
I think hands down ALAN DAVIS and ADAM HUGHES are the artists whove best captured that version of Kurt!

I went comic hunting a few days ago. I searched every gas station in town. I found one place, stock as follows: Wizard #121 (1 copy), Exiles #4 (3 copies), Wolverine #167 (a bunch) and Uncanny X-Men #195 (a huge bunch). So it seems that no one up here is much impressed with Mr. Casey either.
I flipped through Exiles but I wasn't much impressed with that either. I did buy uh, Wolverine. That's six consecutive issues of comic satisfaction so far. *cuts Wolverine rave short* Uh, yeah. I know lots of people here don't like him...

In the short story "The Gift," (I assume everyone read that other wise well it's not a spoiler) He is at the church making his confessions. That explains before he was a preist but I dunno. He hasn't really FOUGHT people after his preisthood. Mostly just self defence from Mister Clean and such.

I like that cover, only that Nightcrawler seems so sad/upset/finished/faint (ach, where's a good dictionary when I need one?). Now, if they only could have this art inside as well and give him his original costume back.

I actually like the way he's drawn in that preview MUCH, MUCH better. Yes, it's a little Edwardesque (I really like that movie. Johnny Depp......... -sigh-), but I don't mind at all. Of course it sucks that he looks so anguished, but most comics are pretty angsty these days. Priest'Crawler's going to "have his beliefs tested"? What do they mean by that? That's fairly vague. Will he meet a sexy atheist mutant? Or is he just in for more heartache and carnage?

Anyway, these covers are among my favourite covers - today I'm going to my comic shop and subscribe to two copies of this mini series (one for wall decorations and one for reading pleasure)...

Elwing, don't worry. I agree with you also on the preview art for NC#1. Besides, to me, the character of NC is what ultimately makes him beautiful. As long as that can be captured, I'm happy.
