Okay has anybody ever made a NC costume? I recieved a request for one in an e-mail, but, other than the Home Made ones seen in Wizard Magazine, I have never really seen one.
Does anybody have a good pattern or idea for a Nightcrawler costume?

Ha ha! Ya know there are TWO costumes that i've always wanted to get/make ever since I was like 7 or 8 years old. A SPIDER-MAN costume and a NIGHTCRAWLER one! It would always crack my little sister up when i'd stick a belt in the back of my pants for a tail, make the 'spock' fingers and pretend I could climb walls... (Dont ask!)
The Nightcrawler ones in the Wiz issues blew me away...
I'm very curious to see what info comes up in regards to making one!

I am, indeed making a Nightcrawler costume for this Halloween, and, funny you should mention it, a Spidey one as well. I MIGHT discuss details with an interested few...and anyone with general sewing tips should definitely post here!!!

Nifty, zhat reminds me of last Halloween when I had three costumes. I was a witch at zhe school dance, an anime character at a sleepover(Just ask Fasheem, it was a sight to see) and a vampire for school.

I think the ears and face would be easy.
Vampire Teeth for the Fangs
Blue Face Makeup for the general blue, of course you could go all out and some artistic painting.
Get some Spock ears, there always seems to be a pair for sale. And dye them blue.
The costume is the tricky part.
I've tried putting one together in the past.
The hardest part is just getting a good black body suit. Tights only SEEM like a good idea....
And, of course... the tail is a challenge.
I would think that the hardest part would be the teleportation!
The tail would basically be a long tube with a pointy triangle on the end. There are a couple of nice, dark blue, fuzzy fabrics that I've seen out there.
You just need to decide how long you want it, cut it out, sew it and stuff it.
(Remember to put the fuzzy side on the INSIDE when you're sewing)

I always thought the end of the tail was just a bit of muscle. Like, um, *tries frantically to think of a muscle that can hold things with no bones to support it* like lips! Yes...um. That sounds really weird when I type it out. Or a tongue... OK, that's even stranger...

But it keeps a definite shape, it doesn't flow or move. And sometimes the spine part continues through the tip to the end of the tail. And it doesn't look like hair, they don't draw lines through it.

And yeah, I've thought about it way too much. There isn't that much to do up here in the frozen north. But most of the thought came after Elwing said it was a tuft of hair and I thought "That can't be right!"
And if the tuft of hair was anything like my hair, it would get caught in everything. Kurt would have string and sticks hanging off his tail... and every few pages Kurt would have one of those tiny word balloons with "@#$%" in it pointing at his head.

Cool. Words of wisdom. Whatever is going under your uni,(underwear, dancebelt etc) get it as close to your skin color, or in flesh tone as you can!!!
I can not stress that enough! That way, nothing shows though your uni. That reminds me, I gotta get working on my Misto costume..... All that fur is gonna take forever.
BAMF!, the thought of you with a belt for a tail just cracks me up! I can't laugh too hard though; I used to pretend a jump rope was my Lasso of Truth when I dressed up in my Wonder Woman underoos.
I always assumed the point at the end of Kurt's tail was made of cartilage. I don't remember ever having read what exactly is was.

My vote is for cartilage.
As for the costume, special effects make up and costuming is a hobby of mine. I used to work for a haunted house and do the effects and stuff so I'll help anybody with my useless advice...
KC, the devil pic I saw of you looked pretty good so I think you shouldn't have any problems with the make up. You'll have to shave though, buddy.

I don't think a costume would be that hard at all. The black unitard is a great idea and then you just need red matching fabric for the "V." A little backing around the shoulders would make the points stand up fine. The tail is easy too. You'd just have to try to match the fabric color with your make up. It would definitly need the support of a belt under it.
I think the gloves and boots would harder just because they'll require precision cutting and sewing. It'll be real fun to keep your fingers taped together. And feet are a bitch if you have to move much in the outfit.
Where anybody is screwed is the eyes, unless they want to spend a few hundred on scleral lenses or custom contacts. I've almost gotten them before in the past (don't ask, I'm wierd like that) and they were $300! Wal Mart sells some cheaper ones around Halloween called Wild Eyes, but they come in limited styles and I'm not sure yellow is one of them.
Magic shops sell heatless flash and smoke kits if anybody really wants the bamf effect. Probably even comes in red.
And for that ultra, super-realistic brimestone stench I highly recommend the standard issue stink bomb. Or just carry a rotten egg around.

You could just go the cheap route and paint your eyelids yellow. When you close your eyes it will work.
Unfortunately you can't walk around with your eyes closed all the time.

My little sister likes to put her hand in front of her eyes to bamf. Then she runs wildly around. When she finds the place that she wants to have bamfed to, she stops, waits a moment, and then whips her hand away from her face while simultaneously yelling "BAMF."
She doesn't even know what a Nightcrawler is.
There are now variations on the Bamf, including the Double handed sliding door Bamf, and the Super long extended Bamf.

Well, that tail would give me a headache...Personally, I would simply make it out of fabric, a long tube of fabric that gets thinner towards the end.(the tail gets thinner towards the end)Exept for the point of course. The point can be filled with a bit of cardboard, and the rest should IMHO be stuffed very tightly with synthetic pillow filling stuff. maybe it is a good idea to put some wire in it.
Actually, I have always wondered what the point of the tail is supposed to be made of. Is it a bit of misplaced cartiledge? is it a tuft of hair? I've never seen a tail like that in the animal kingdom.

KC, if I were you, I'd get a black unitard. You can get one at ADA Dancewear. http://www.adadance.com They come in nylon/lycra blends (the nylon gives it a shiney look) and cotton/lycra blends. I had a white one before I dyed it black. (Remeber my Victoria picture on my CATS site? That's the unitard.) They run about $35.00. I'll double check and post it up here.
~Comes back from ADA.~ Okay, I checked. You don't gotta do this, but I thought it'd be a nice idea. Anyway, when you get to the main page click on "Dancewear" Scroll down until you see "Unitards". When you get there, you'll see 3 different brands that you can pick from. Bal-Togs, Capezio, and Mirella. I recomend getting the mock-turtle neck unitard from Bal-Togs, (it goes from your neck to your ankles) it's the kind I got, and I like it. It runs at $35.95 and comes in black. Nylon/lycra or cotton/lycra is up to you.
For the feet...
Well, you could always make little booties to go on your own feet and add two big, stuffed toes at the end.
Remember not to stuff the tail too tightly, Elwing. If you do, the tail would stick straight out with very little curve instead of hanging down. The tail might (just might) weigh enough to warrant a support system so it doesn't pull too much on the suit. If you want to put something rubbery in the end of the tail I would recommend those cheap sheets of foam that can be found at any crafts store. Just cut it to shape.
I've seen the end-of-the-tail-thingie shaped like a diamond and like a triangle. Which is it supposed to be?

I love making costumes too! So far I've made a Rogue costume (when in college), Dazzler (circa early 80's-Disco Queen!), and Salior Moon. Rogue and SM turned out pretty well; Daz was okay, but not the greatest. I still want to do the really bad multi-colored Kitty costume - the one with rollar skates! Wow, I'm inspired now; I need to get started!

I never did the Wonder Woman thing, but I used to jump off the stairs holding an umbrella pretending to be Mary Poppins (good thing I never got to the roof). Of course after I watched X-Men I used to try being jubilee by wearing a pair of my dad's sunglasses and a raincoat. Also a good thing I never got a hold of some fireworks.

I did the "Whee!" THUD thing myself! I jumped off the roof of our carport with a big plastic sheet (I think it was a Twister board or something) draped over my shoulders. It was a "Lookie guys! I'm Superman! I can flyyyy..." THUD! *groan*
I did the Mary Poppins thing too. I jumped off our deck. I guess I didn't learn the first time...duhhh. Head trauma? What head trauma? *twitch*

Ooh, pretty colors...hehe...I don't think that would be too terribly hard, Whisk. Much like NC, a shiny yellow unitard would be a good base. Some green Daisy Duke's and a red tank top with the lightning bolt things sewn on. The belt could be just wide elastic with the X made from craft foam. The mask could be craft foam too. The gloves look like something for cleaning or automotive-type jobs. I bet something comparable could be found at Wal Mart or a hardware store. The hardest part would be the legwarmers. Those are hella long! And I don't think they make them that hideous any more. The roller skates could be a bitch too. I haven't seen skates like those for a looonngg time. Not since the Rollerblade Revolution!
All in all, that costume in living color would be the height of "I got dressed in the dark" couture. But Kitty in the flesh! What a happy, happy thought!

Okay kiddies, if I wasn't psyched about this costume I am now! I actually found some roller skate (the old kind) at a thrift store and used them for my Dazzler outfit. I gave them away again, but hopefully they are still there.
Yep, the legwarmers look like the trickly part, but maybe I can find some similar fabric and sew them.
I think I'll head to the good old Mart of Wal and get some fabric! Woo, hoo - it begins!
You know, if you pull this off and submit it to Wizard, you're pretty much guaranteed a spot in the contest.
We shall see! I went looking at fabrics last night and didn't see anything really suitable. I'm not sure how it'll all turn out, but I'm going to give it good try! Of course, you all will be the first to see the finished product. Wish me luck!
