Get it off!! Ewww. Am I the only one who thinks Nightcrawler looks like a dog?
That's not Nightcrawler...that's Ma McCoy's Bouncin' Baby Boy...The Beast. Just in case you guys don't know, that's Emma Frost, Wolverine, Cyclops, Prof. X, Jean Grey, and Beast.
My first reaction was- Icky, keep that away from me. My sense of aesthetics have been offended!
After a second glance, I still think the same thing. I agree with MoonBeamDancer. Beast needs a collar and leash.
------------------
Is that you there, or just another demon that I meet?
Anyone notice that the White Queen looks like a stripper? (Not to offend anyone on here, if that is their job.)
I wonder just how much body glue she has to use to keep that "uniform" on...or maybe it's just body paint.
I think it looks awesome. Quitely's got a pretty distinct style, so I was prepared for a fairly different look for the X-Men, but to be honest, I think it's good that there's change a-comin'. It's not going to be what we're used to, but I think it's going to be interesting.
Of course, I think the Casey/Churchill book is going to be a little more conservative. But who knows, I could be proven wrong.
-Rex
Well, I just realized that I sound like one of the Haters over at WhizWorld. I'm afraid that I might judge this book before it his, after all this IS only one sample of the art. However, as a X-book fan, this art really puts me off. I don't like how it looks, and moreso I don't like the changes in Beast's and Wolvie's apppearances. I don't like to jump to conclusions, but with them looking like that, they either have to change appearances in the others or this one has to take place sometime in the future of the other books. Either way I don't like it. I don't like all the alternate futures, and I really don't like on future being told on a monthly basis. I like giving the writers/artists their freedom, but I don't think giving one freedom, regardless of the others, is even close to right. Like I said over at WW, I think that this might lead to Morrison playing tug-of-war for these characters, leading to bad stories and/or fed-up colleagues. Eitherway, bad deal for us.
Well, to say the least, I was certainly "surprised" by the look of this new story. http://www.hostboard.com/ubb/eek.gif
I must agree that beast looks a little too much like a bull dog to be human, but maybe the artist was just having a bad hair day or, err... something like that. I am very curious about this tombstone atop the hill they are standing on. This could lead to some interesting story possibilites, or it could just be another poorly done development.
(I certainly won't under-estimate "different approach" next time).
Actually, they've (Quitely and/or Morrison) have said in interviews that Beast's appearance is puposeful and will be explained.
Huh, is it just me or does that green thing at the top of that memorial look like a watermelon? "The New X-Men, introducing the stangest mutant of all--Gallagher!! And his amazing sledge-o-matic..."
Hehehe. I kill me.
Seriously, it's not that bad. Except for Beast *shudder*.... I shall reserve judgement, I don't much care for it...but I can live with it.
I read they were doing that to Beast. He's supposed to look like a "Beauty and the Beast," Beast. Yup, he sure does. Ron Perlman, watch out..."Oh, Catherine....er, I mean Trish..." 'Course I also heard he was hooking up with Storm...
http://www.hostboard.com/ubb/biggrin.gif
I kinda like Beast's new look. My only question is, how are they going to reconcile it with the fact that he looks like his old self in the Claremont book? For that matter, how are they going to reconcile the fact that he's in the Claremont book at all?
-Rex (totally confused)
Hey someone over at Fandom had the theory that it's actually the DARK BEAST posing as Hank in Claremonts team! http://www.hostboard.com/ubb/eek.gif He also said something to the effect that Dark Beast was going to end up having feelings for STORM! http://www.hostboard.com/ubb/eek.gif
Not sure how much weight to put into that though. 'Cause yet another poster said that changes to Hank during X-treme would lead to him returning to join Morrison's team in 'New X-Men'.
I guess you can pretty much pick your 'rumor-mill' poison...
BAMF!
Ok Ive seen this pic about a dozen times over the past 2 days and I still dont have the words,so Ill just stick to my last statement....."Uhh,hmmmm....."

Got elf?
`~`~`Dragonlady`~`~`
I may sound like the oddball here, but I think Beast looks really cool there. He doesn't look like a gorilla with wolverine hair anymore. They all look really awesome. And Xavier looks kinda fine. He looks almost asian, which I like.
Wonder what Casey team is going to look like?

Ahhh, me and my kneejerk reactions.
Beast doesn't bother me as much now that I've had a day to let the image sit in my head. The thing that does bug me is that he seems to have more feline or canine type facial features, while I've always seen him as more of a primate. I guess it's like seeing Nightcrawler with 5 fingers or rounded ears.
Does anybody know what Beast fans think of this?
I also agree with Spatula Gal, but I'd go one farther. All of them have Asiatic type features. Wolverine reminds me of some of the warriors in the Japanese woodblock prints I've been studying. Jean also has the face shape that geishas (SP?) have.
------------------
Is that you there, or just another demon that I meet?
Not bad...If ya consider a stripper, a bald guy, a rebel, a girl who looks like shes constipated(sp?) and another guy who looks like he has need of a serious life and....Scott to be a serious team.
>Jezie<

That tail! Those fangs! That fur! I think I'm in love....No, wait, that's a furball.
"Okay X-Men, if you could just gather round for the publicity shot, that would be great darlings. Whats that Jeanie? You need to what? Poo-poo? Can't you hold it till later sweetie? Yes thats it, put the turtle head back in the shell.
Logan honey, what is that your wearing? Did you think the medalian look was coming back this year, hmm? Well it will have to do for now. Just plese don't run off and join any boy bands before I've taken this photo okay?
Makeup! Ms Frost needs the tit-tape, this isn't a porno, you know.
Whats that? Xavier is running late? Well what are we supposed to do now? Ghandi is going to it? Well, time is money and I am a profresional.
Now if you could all gather in together. Thats lovely. And for this first shot I want you to give me some lips, okay darlings? Yes, really pout. Oh Scotty thats brilliant sweetie, all look Scotty, see what he's doing with his lips, you could all learn a lot from him.
What's that Henry? Oh sorry darling you've got no lips have you? Well do your best, and just try not look like the Cookie Monster after a night on the town okay?
Okay after three: One, Two , Thre... Hang on! Hang on! Who's watermelon is that! I don't think I've ever seen such a buch of amatures in my whole career. I never had these problems with the JLA you know?"

I am a particularly clever hyper intelligent pan-dimensional being, fear me
Why is it that Beast's son would be blue and hairy too? Hank's appearence was due to his science experiments, right? It's not genetics. I know he was the Beast before he was blue and furry but it makes no sense for his son to be the same way...
His son? When and where did that happen?
I love you, ovenmitboy. http://www.hostboard.com/ubb/smile.gif
.....? Wow! I make a smart comment and look what happens! Thanks Mit I needed that!

I don't think that's Beast's son. Don't think he has one. At least I've never heard of him. Do you know something we don't? Anyway, Beast's experimentations somehow increased his mutations. They were really there all along, he just made them more pronounced. It would be interesting to find out what made him like this. Maybe he drank some more of that elixer or something like that.
Mit. Once again you astound me with your kookiness. Don't ever grow up.

Fasheem

Sheemy, Gallagher was/is? (is he still around?) a comedian in the 70s and 80s who would smash watermelons, among other assorted foodstuffs, with a big, huge mallet. He also had a running commentary and odd stand up act before the food smooshing. I always thought his monologues were really funny, but I never got the sledge-o-matic (his mallet's name) bits. He used to be really popular and he also dressed funny. Hell, he was a funny-looking guy without dressing funny!
I still don't like Beast. Uck. My SO is a HUGE! Beast fan and he HATED it. My main hang-up is Beast was always ape-like. Here he looks like a pissed cat. One of those Russian Blue cats with the yellow eyes. And that's another thing, he has a cat nose and yellow cat eyes! That's sooo not Beast to me. I think the poor guy just needs to go back to the Avengers. Or even the Defenders, they're back now. My advice to Beast: 'Bail, Hank! While you've got the chance! Call your agent!! Run away! Run away!' Gah.
They do look all Asian-y, don't they? Hmmmm... And Emma sure better hope that tit-tape never blows...
And, Mit, you kick ass! You crazy Brit, you!

The thing that worries me the most about this picture is the dates on the tomb: 33, 000 B.C. - 2005 AD. Now I know some fans were very upset about a certain six month gap, but a four year gap! http://www.hostboard.com/ubb/eek.gif I'm starting to get worried!!

It must be really bright out, cause they are all squinting something fierce.
It appears we are never going to get any stability in the X-Men ever again.
It's like there's now a rule that sudden, inexplicable, changes have to happen every year. I know back in the old days, things happened and the x-men got shaken up. But most of the time, they were subtle changes made over a long period, and they made SENSE.
WHY is Beast now an exotically groomed german shepard?
lol, Jezie!
I don't know... I don't really judge comics by the art (I know, it's ridiculous) but Beast... ick. He looks like the Beast from Disney's Beauty and the Beast and the look doesn't seem right for him.
But then, I probably won't buy it, anyway,

Yeah, I noticed that too. A four-year gap would just plain suck! It would explain why they look so radically different, but not in a good way. It worries me too.
Hey, what does everyone think of what we've seen of the new costumes. They're very, um, yellow and black. I dunno how Nighty will look in yellow....
http://www.hostboard.com/ubb/biggrin.gif
The solicitation said that human kind is in danger of extinction within half a decade. Presumably, the X-Men are going to work to prevent it. I doubt this cover represents an actual scene in the book.
Yeah, I don't know how I feel about the life-preserver look. Kinda weird. I like Beast's little 18th century ascot-thingy, though. He looks very debonnaire. NO idea why they thought he needed a species makeover, though.
I dunno, I'm probably the only one who is really excited about this new stuff, but I can't help it, I just am. Quitely and Morrison are both so talented that they could give Xavier a toupee and put Logan in a zoot suit and I probably wouldn't care. My X-Men addiction was starting to seem like a real ball and chain for a while, so the prospect of actually enjoying an issue and being able to admire its quality has a certain seductive charm, kind of like the thought of Methadone to a fed-up junky. Hearing Claremont's atrocious prose in the mouth of my favorite character in the whole world was just killing me. I think a big overhaul is necessary to make these books good again; a certain amount of reinventing is required. The details may not make us uniformly happy, but this is my philosophy: Morrison, Casey, do whatever the hell you want, just MAKE THE PAIN STOP!
Sorry for the rant. I really like that image up there. http://www.hostboard.com/ubb/smile.gif

AWFUL!
Wolvie looks like a Village People reject for starters, I honestly didn't think Emma Frost's costume could get any sluttier (and I'm proven wrong again)Beast just looks like a blue dog, and the others look like extras off Aeon Flux! Eurgh!
Ugly ugly ugly!

Emma's costume! I mean, that tacticaly placed zipper! Sheesh. And thanks Ovenmit, now I will never be able to look at this drawing again without bursting in laughter. Oh the humanity of it all! Oh wait. This expression will be terminated in 2005. Oh the mutanity of it all!
As much as I hate to admit it, I actually secretly like this setup. But I will not say anything defenite about it before I've seen it in print!

When I first saw the pic, I was really shocked. Now that I've had a few days to digest it, it's not as bad. I don't really know how I feel about it, but I'm willing to give it a shot. I think I can get used to Beast's look faster than Wolvie going shirtless! That just strikes me as odd.
Kurt in a yellow costume: At least it would bring out his eyes! (ha, ha, ha, ha, ha...I love bad jokes!)
I never give much credence to Marvel dates. "Days of Future Past" supposedly takes place 2013 where Kate Pryde is in her forties (?). It's 2001, and Kitty is only about 18. She's got a lot of aging to do in 12 years!
"mutanity" - *giggle* That's cute!

Some of the character designs for Evolution had Kurt in yellow. I like the red better, myself.
Oops. Should work now...

Thanks Sheemy! That's not so bad! It doesn't look that far off from what Quitely appears to be doing. If Churchhill follows suit (pun intended) that's not bad at all. I could see adult Kurt in that outfit with no problems.
Yay! Cover of Whizzer! I'll definitely have to pick that one up!!!!
I'd really like to see a promo from Churchhill before then though! Maybe he's working on one. *crosses finger, toes and tail*

There's no need to feel jeered,

There's a place you can go,

When you're powers start to show,
You can stay there
And I'm sure you will find,
Many ways to have a good time..

LOL! Too funny, Mit! I tried to come up with a X-MCA song when someone on the Wizard World board posted the Village People pics saying they were the new X-Men line-up; it didn't turn out nearly as funny as yours!!
