my thoughtful, wonderful sister, gets great presents! She, who is an X-men fan of sorts, though she has never read a comic book in her life (she loves the old X-men cartoon, the movie and Evolution) went to a seedy little comic store, in a hidden corner of a mall in Calgary just for me to go Christmas shopping. she says it's tiny, and absolutley dead (i've never been there, i have access to the Silver Snail in Toronto, so why bother...) and got me the Bowen Nighty mini bust http://www.hostboard.com/ubb/biggrin.gif AND Wolverine's bust! (as my dad's present to me, my dad doesn't ever know what to get my sister or me, so he lets us choose for eachother)
if that is not enough, you will NOT beleive this, you thought every store in the world was sold out of Origin, didn't ya? well, as mentioned my sis does not read comics, so had no idea what Origin was until I told her a few days ago about it, and lamented on how i had missed out on getting #2...(oh why ddidn't i call sooner for them to reserve it for me... i only reserved form 3 up) she picks up 2 copies of the series so far! it was just sitting on the shelf, even #1!! http://www.hostboard.com/ubb/eek.gif Calgarians as you can see are not typically big into comic books.... man, i have to get her something really nice for Christmas...

I think people who have opposite sex siblings tend to have the most trouble, certainly true in my house.

Then why are you smiling so big? I wish my brother were older cause then he'd have already moved out.
My sister taped Evolution for me while I was out of town yesterday. Siblings aren't all bad. http://www.hostboard.com/ubb/biggrin.gif
I'd love to read Origin. But not enough to pay shipping so I'll just wait until they make it into a dotcomic.

It is already started as a Dot Comic. Download the Dot Comic player, and when you go to choose the comics to download to your player you will see the first 2 issues of Origin available.

My sister and I are ten years apart, so we usually get along. Wow Nocturne, you sure are lucky.

my sister and i are very close in age actually, i am only 14 months older than her. very different personalities, but we still get along great!
you know what i said about calgarians not likeing comic books? the more i think on that, the stranger this seems to me, especially x-men, cause A) Calgary is home to the real Kitty Pryde that the character was named after b) John Byrne and Todd McFarlane both attended the ACA (and both dropped/flunked out after a year... so did i. i hated it there, and i kow for a fact that byrne, and most likely McFarlane hated it too. this is also the reason for the name Kitty Pryde, she was in class with Byrne) c) Byrne drew the first part of his run on X-Men while living in Calgary, as a result, the Stampede grounds get trashed by in an issue of X-Men. (heard this as rumour, and i asked Byrne about it and he confirmed it, i'd have to look up the exact issue... whtever issue it is that Alpha Flight makes its first appearance.)
and yet there are next to no comic stores, and you NEVER see comics on regular store shelves there... i had to come here to Toronto to *really* start bmy back issue collection.

My family still (after almost 30years) have trouble accepting my hobby/passion!!! I get ties as a present http://www.hostboard.com/ubb/frown.gif

yeah boomboom, i often baffle my family as well... my sister is the only one who gets me presents like that, or expresses any kind of interest (or, i should say, understanding) in what i like. the rest of my family gets me either clothes, or *tries* to get me something i would like, but fails miserably. (last year my grandmother got me this book on how to draw cartotns aimed at about a 12 year olds level, for instance... *sigh*) and they just don't grasp why i like the things i do...
and my mother, oh, i try and tell her how things work when i do freelance stuff or when i was working as a character designer... things *just don't work the same* in artistic industries as hers... the oil and gas industry. she keeps trying to 'help' me get jobs and such, but she just doesn't get it... and she can't grasp the concept that at animation studios there is no set time to come into the 'office' just can't bend her mind around that... she keeps insisting i *must* be mistaken. but i know animators at seveal companies, several of them quite large, and the policy is pretty much, as long as you get the work done, come in whenever you like, so long as you make sure to show up for certian appointments and dailies. i think she jsut worries about me though, it's an unstable field, you can go months with nothing, or you could be up to your eyeballs in work, no telling what it will be.

I once got to know a girl at Elfwood. Selina Almira Fenech. Check her out. She did this comic "FALLEN" which I purchased from her. Just great stuff. About an Angel...

But at least I'm happy http://www.hostboard.com/ubb/smile.gif

thanks boomboom! i didn't realize the links were screwed up like that... i'll have to fix my sig. i need a good quote too... hmmm...
Foxdie, i did the evo one, but i spilled coke all over my keyboard and it's broken! i can't upload it right now cause i can't type my pasword in... hell i can't even scan it in because i can't type a filename for it (the keyboards is -completely- fu*ked... no key works) http://www.hostboard.com/ubb/tongue.gif I'm at the school using thier internet connection, i'll get a new keyboard soon and then show ya.
and i think it is genetic as well, i mean, everyone has a pre-disposition to certian talents, some are inclined to me mathematical, some have strong language skills, some are artistic right from an early age, so i'd imagine personality and interests are to a degree genetic as well. though, i think environment does play a part, but i think the pre-disposition plays a fairly major part.

there we go, sig is all fixed! though still lacking a good quote.
now, if you all go to the elfwood one, go to my fan art gallery and i think there is a picture there you will all like http://www.hostboard.com/ubb/wink.gif
and i forgot to mention, I think I have converted my sister to an elfaholic! muahahahaha! i was talking to her on the phone the other night, and she mentioned how when she went in to get the bust she mentioned that it was a gift, and that i was a Nighty fan, and that she was really taken aback because as soon as that was mentioned, the clerk went off, nightcrawler this nightcrawler that, yada yada yada, he was a real fan too! so she asks me what's so great about him, and i sent her some pics and scanned pages (i sent her to go read The Gift, and The Big Dare in particular) that showed his real good qualities, and she really came around.... she thinks he's real cool now. hehehe...

Hm, my theory (when I consider the personalities of my parents and relatives) is that maybe it's all in the genes: you are either predisposed to like this subject matter or not. Of my bros, one would only consider even thinking of X-Men if it happened to be the newest and coolest fad at school (hypocrite!), and the other is into everything and anything of the sort and I'm currently working with him to bring out his full potential http://www.hostboard.com/ubb/tongue.gif (the only problem is that he's a Wolv fan http://www.hostboard.com/ubb/frown.gif ...must be 'cause of the personality similarities)
Either way, Nocturne, consider yourself blessed: neither of my bros are very good at presents-- the oldest is your typical "arch-enemy sibling" for me (though he does have his good spots) and the other is just not into that mushy-nice-gotta-get-everyone-the-best-present-ever-and-make-them-happy.
I'm left behind http://www.hostboard.com/ubb/frown.gif , alone with my world and my elf (well, http://www.hostboard.com/ubb/biggrin.gif)
-
Wow Nocturne, you converted your sister? (So to speak). I tried to convert Millicent, but she just looked at me funny and asked if I was feeling okay when I told her she'd like the fuzzy blue one. Oh well. You win some, you lose some.

(laughs to herself) i'm older than her by two years and six months. all my family in general and my friends at school know about my weird (weird?)tastes, for example, my grandmother this past birthday she gave me a storm "x-mutations" set (only 14000 left!) hehehehe
i think you and i are very lucky to have relatives like that!
