Does anyone know Casey's previous work? Can anyone verify this? If this is the truth, I will not be buying Uncanny, or any marvel book. I HATE mysogyny for entertainment. It's why I don't listen to popular music anymore, or catch very many movies. If the x-men go like this, they can plaster NC on every cover, but I will not spend my money on them. If I wan't it bad enough, I will steal it.

Hmmm, well, at least what they said about Wildcats is true. I was actually pretty pissed off about what he did to Voodoo. It has become a very masculine book -- not that it wasn't before, since most comics are, but even the obligatory female presence seems to have dropped out for the most part. As I haven't really read anything else by him I can't speak to his other work. Anybody read Children of the Atom? That oughta be the acid test, seeing as it was an X-book.

I dont know about the whole woman bashing thing. I never really got that impression from reading Casey. Either in his X-Men run, or in WildCats.
Was he the one involved when Celicia Reyes and Marrow joined the team? If yes, here is an obvious and good example that he isn't a woman basher. Both these woman, were written as very strong minded and they never really got pushed around.

Drags, it's cool. I know what you're going through. I get pms too and it's no joke. Had it last week and had migraines up the wazzoo. I've been thinking about doing something about it. I've read you can just stop your cycle by taking birth control pills continuously. Although that sounds drastic, when you think about it, women havent been designed to menstruate so much. There's also other perscription drugs available. I just have to find the time to set up a personal physician and get a thourough checkup, blah blah blah.

Now that's funny. i don't hate women though, in fact there's one i love more than anything else in the world, but it still makes me laugh.
either way, that's not the issue here. Joe Casey doesn't hate women. I don't know if any of you read what he did in Cable, but he (at the beginning together with James Robinson) introduced a female character which actually made Cable a better person and had a very important part in the book.
Also, there's plenty of real good music around not offensive to women in any way. PJ Harvey, Radiohead, Portishead. okay, i could go on for quite a while here.

Birth control doesn't actually stop the cycle, it just makes it a little easier to deal with. Less pain and suffering. Physical pain anyway. I don't know what it does for PMS because as far as I can tell, I don't get any grumpier towards "that time" so I didn't learn about that, but it is supposed to clear up acne, lighten the, erm, output and ease cramps...

Both Kelly and Casey came on the X-Men board shortly after Claremont left. There was a big Wizard article on he whole thing. The two writers were going to take the X-Men to new places. But it was the bigging of what many creators would later complain about, editorial conflict. And the creators to come would move on, as well. Casey moved on to the Wildcats and other projects. I forget what Kelly spent his time doing.
I am not sure of their entire run. I now part occurred during Operation Zero Tolerance.

Well, it does, but when the pain usually has you bawling and curling into your bedsheets to die, it reduces it just enough to make walking around a little less like being shot through the abdomen.

A friend of mine has shots that stop her cycles completely. Not permanently, but for... 3 months I think. Its such a tempting thought, but I'm terrified of hypodermic needles.

Oh, and also wanted to say BC I think youre thinking of the time when Steven Seagle was writing the X-books with Joe Kelly. To my knowledge I dont believe Casey's written an X-book previously besides Cable. (I may be wrong though! i'd have to check to make sure..)

Casey only wrote Cable and CotA. Never a core book. He was one of the ones suspected to take over after Kelly and Seagle left, but he never did. I looked it up in an old Wizard.

The only time I wish I was a guy. The bad thing about it in my house, is that me and my mom are either on it at the same time, or she's getting off when I'm getting on, or vice versa. She'll sometimes pick a fight with me when I'm on my period. (She's done this twice and not meant too.) It has ended with me crying, instead of yelling back at her, which is what normally happends. I hate being a girl sometimes I really do....

Okay, being female, I feel it's my duty to contribute. I used to have SEVERE cramps, and they made me want to die!! I've been on birth control pills (I call them "cramp control" b/c that's the sole reason I take them! http://www.hostboard.com/ubb/wink.gif)for about five years now - wow, that's a long time now that I think about it! - and they really help. No more guessing when "the friend" will actually pay a visit and only about three days per visit!!! http://www.hostboard.com/ubb/biggrin.gif It hasn't helped my skin really, but I'm on another med for that! As far as emotions go, mine are kind of kooky anyway. I get more upset and sensative than angry, but that's how I am "normally" also.
When I was in college, one of my roommates was on birth control too and another was not. My fellow BC taker and I had the same "schedule", and we messed up the other girl's cycle! We always threatened to make her conform; it was quite humorous (for us, anyway!)
Oh yeah, I just saw a commercial, and Evolution is supposed to be new Saturday. Yeaaa!

Okay, okay, I'll chime in on the great PMS thread. I too took birth control pills for about 4 years. Since I've been off of them for a while, poof! No periods, maybe one every three months. I never really got PMS before I got on the pills, or while I was on them, but boy I sure do now! My skin is jacked too! I never had serious problems before, but now, my skin is worse than when I went through puberty! I'm getting back on those pills as soon as I possibly can! I want my period back, girls! You'll miss it when it's gone, but it keeps reminding you it should be there!
*digging out the doc's number now that she's thinking about it.*
Oh, my Mom calls it "That Time of the Month." Yes, you can hear the capitals when she says it. She also inherited the truly sick and weird belief that if you washed your hair while you were on your period that it would stop and give you some unspecified 'problems.' Uck. She lived with that belief her whole life, poor thing. I disavowed that nasty habit the moment nature called.
Me- "Look Mom I washed my hair!"
Mom- "Now you'll DIE!"
Me- "But at least I won't die skanky!"
