Excellent BAMF! Can't wait to see the finished product! I'd love to learn how to really sketch; I always go about my sketches backwards because I never learned the proper techniques. I try to practice by copying other people's drawings. They usually turn out okay, but I don't get very far in original pics.
-
Very cool, Bamferoonie!
I haven't seriously drawn since high school, long ago...these threads always inspire me.

Whoa Bamfie! That NC is just awesome. One of the best I think I've seen.

BLUE FLAME, MOONBEAMDANCER, WONDERLASS, KNIGHTY, SHADY, SLARTI, PIIKKI... http://www.hostboard.com/ubb/smile.gif
THANK YOU for the kudos! Coming from such a talented group, your kind words are inspiring. http://www.hostboard.com/ubb/smile.gif
For some reason i've been in a HUGE doodling mood for the past couple of days. My only problem is that I tend to jump from picture to picture instead of just [I]completely[/I} finishing one drawing at a time!
(Just call me the procrastinating, Attention deficit poster-boy BAMF! http://www.hostboard.com/ubb/tongue.gif)
Oh and Greetings and Salutations PIIKKI! I havent had the pleasure of 'meeting' you yet http://www.hostboard.com/ubb/smile.gif

PIIKKI my friend i'm glad you 'de-cloaked' and joined the fun! http://www.hostboard.com/ubb/biggrin.gif
WONDERLASS youre an artist after my own heart. I've dreamt of drawing comics professionally since I was a wee lad. The BIG wake-up call for me is that I know i'd be horrible when it came to meeting my deadlines. http://www.hostboard.com/ubb/frown.gif
( Unless I could find a publisher willing to put up with BATTLECHASERS-like levels of lateness! http://www.hostboard.com/ubb/tongue.gif )
BAMF!

I do that too Wonderlass!! There is maybe about two finished works in my sketch books-and that is only if your lucky. http://www.hostboard.com/ubb/tongue.gif Oh well.
Hey, BAMF, that would be a fun job... I wish I could do that... But I dunno if I'd ever be good at it... The masculane form is kinda hard to draw-or at least to me-But he does have a tail and that makes it easier for me to draw-never ever draw normal stuff-not me.
Can I cry/pout about somemat real fast?
I desided to tryto draw the adult NC.. it looked prity good to me.. b-b-but my dog jumped up on to my lap while I was eating manacotti and made me spill marinara all over it. http://www.hostboard.com/ubb/eek.gif http://www.hostboard.com/ubb/frown.gif
Okay I feel better now http://www.hostboard.com/ubb/biggrin.gif
-
I'm not suprised about that one, Bamf. http://www.hostboard.com/ubb/wink.gif I'm a total newbie here. I've been following this forum and the WW thread for a good time now. (Yup, someones watching..) The first thing I ever posted, was that I got Nightcrawler for my dream date in that quiz I found from here. http://www.hostboard.com/ubb/biggrin.gif That's me alright!

Hello, Piikki!
As for sketchbooks, I rarely (if never) have finished pieces in my sketchbook. First of all, it's too small to do anything decent. Second, the paper is usually not the best for a real finished piece. And finally, I was always under the impression that a sketchbook was for sketching, trying new things, and experimenting. Sketchbooks are for trying out ideas and streamlining your composition and proportions. So just try things. Leave bad drawings in the sketchbook and sketch all the time. That's how you learn. http://www.hostboard.com/ubb/smile.gif
I would even be willing to put up some of my "sketch" pages so you don't feel bad. Even if an idea doesn't work, it's always good to keep it in mind. It might come in handy later. http://www.hostboard.com/ubb/biggrin.gif

Blueflame, you find it hard to draw the male form? I have the opposite problem. I can't draw a female worth a d@mn!
Life drawing didn't help, either. We only got to draw old people. Chuck, aka "Sack of Potatoes" and Gail, aka "Skinny Lady." Yeah, great practice. Tell me why I took that class again?
I just thought I'd insert that for the fun of it. http://www.hostboard.com/ubb/smile.gif

all these things come from my head and thats part of the problem i have, thats what they look like.

http://www.hostboard.com/ubb/frown.gif yes that darn dog got on my list-now I gotta try to draw it all over again.
You're self taught Wonderlass? coolness http://www.hostboard.com/ubb/biggrin.gif
LOL thats kinda funny BlueElfEars
Legs-hm?
well they are usualy as long as the upperbody and head. I use long thin ovels until I get something leg looking. you use about three per leg. What really gets me is human feet. http://www.hostboard.com/ubb/tongue.gif
-
BAMF! That is sooooo COOOL!! http://www.hostboard.com/ubb/eek.gif
You and Elwing should be professionals, both of you draw better than a lot of the artists on the books.

Help with legs? Hmm, let me think.
Well, the first thing to remember is that I've only had two life drawing courses. So anything I say might be inaccurate.
As for drawing the human form.
1) Body is between 7 and 8 heads tall.
-Points where headlengths hit on body in anatomical position:
Head one- bottom of chin DUH
Head two- mid-breastbone
Head three- bellybutton
Head four- crotch Remember, this is the half-way point for your person
Head five- a mid-thigh
Head six- a little below the knee
Head seven- a little below mid-shin
Head eight- bottom of feet
Arms
Elbow is on the same line as the bellybutton
Tips of fingers end at mid-thigh
Shoulders are two headlengths wide
Foot (from the side) is one headlength long
As for legs, I'll put some sketches up for you (assuming you want me too and aren't tired of reading my posts).

yes elfie i know about the heads technique.. and i still have trouble w/the legs!!
i can draw them but not easily, like i can draw a face or a torso or an arm!!
it bugging the crap outta me!!!
pardon my profanity.
any other tips?
oh yes lets see some shetchs, por favor!

Oh, and THANK YOU for the kind words SPATUAL GAL old pal! http://www.hostboard.com/ubb/biggrin.gif ( I wish I was talented enough to go professional... http://www.hostboard.com/ubb/smile.gif )
FASHEEM lack of patience is part of my problem too! ( http://www.hostboard.com/ubb/frown.gif )
Ditto WONDERLASS! It'd be awesome to sneak a peek into everyones' Sketchbook!
BAMF!

You really like my stuff? You really want to see some of my sketchbook pages? Aww, you guys sure do know how to sweettalk a girl. *blush*
I just wanted to let you know, Wonderlass, that I'm not ignoring your request. I'm just having trouble with my father's new scanner. Can't figure the thing out. (Newfangled hunk of junk) So you guys will just have to hold tight until I get back to my apartment and my old, regular, well-loved and understood scanner.
As for a little more in the tip department, go take a look at BAMF's sketch. Really, before all the muscle modification, the thigh is just one long oval. The lower leg is also an oval, but thinner, with another oval (the calf) attached to it. I, too, have some trouble with perspective, but I think my persistence is paying off.

Wish I could draw. My drawing suck, but I'm good at tracing, so maybe I'll do a tracing and put it up here. Or maybe I shoud just stick to writing. I do that a lot better.

You all sound professional to me. I don't have anything to contribute to this, just thought I'd pop in... I haven't taken art since grade nine. My art mark was actually pulling my average down. I don't like to take electives where I have to really work to keep my mark in the 80% range. The real reason, though, is that I just don't have the patience to work at it. I like guaranteed results (If I draw for one hour, I'll have a good picture. If I spend time drawing every day for a year, I'll develop talent.) and if it doesn't work that way, it just seems like too much effort.
-
Ok, maybe I will. I have a few paintings I did years ago, that I could post.
One of VooDoo from WildCats, another of Catlin Fairchild from GEN13, and one of Lisa from Witchblade. There is one I wanna do of Storm, but I don't have any tracing paper.
http://www.hostboard.com/ubb/frown.gif I need to get some.
-
Beamie, you could always make a lightbox, unless you're putting your painting on canvas. Or you could use the grid method. I, myself, don't use tracing paper unless I must.

I'm really really impressed, BAMF!. Absolutely faboo sketch. Anatomy is very hard to do right; and so is doing a dynamic drawing. I mean, I get coloring right mostly, but my anatomy sucks pretty hard at times, and my characters tend to be stiff as a board.... Maybe I should take lessons.
And maybe I should take your sketch and color it. And then we apply for a job at marvel together. Now wouldn't that be great? http://www.hostboard.com/ubb/wink.gif*if only I had more time*
By the way, I hope to see more from you too bluey http://www.hostboard.com/ubb/smile.gif

I've done a little bit of free handing. I was working on a painting of Tigera years ago and dug it out last year and free handed the stripes on her legs.
-
Okay, I scanned in the paintings. These are all copies of others work, I just liked the poses and painted them. My step dad helped on all of them
The first one is of Catlin from GEN 13. It's the last page of issue 5. The jungle around her was free handed by my stepdad and me.
Second one is Lisa from Witchblade. The shoe was actually turquiose (sp?) but I made it purple. And my step dad hid my name in the painting 12 times, but I can only find it 7 times.
Last on is VooDoo from WildCats. The back ground was done by my step dad free hand.

I had a whole long spiel set down when my computer decided that it didn't want me online anymore. After I managed to get it restarted, all of the helpful tidbits I had planned on posting had been burned out of my mind by the resulting white hot haze of anger.
http://www.hostboard.com/ubb/smile.gifAnd now, to change my mood midpost, I would like to mention that, although I don't remember a word of my spiel, anyone who has any art questions is welcome to email me and I'll be glad to try to answer. "Try" being the operative word.
