Okay. We are officially planning a sort of get together for all of us elficionados. We aren't sure yet when or where, really, but we're leaning towards Florida some time this fall or winter. I don't really know what else to say, so I'll turn it over to BAMF!

Well, we ARE going to be taking donations for the "Bring the foreign elficionados to the states" fund!
We're thinking Florida, because there's lots of stuff to do, as well as it being kinda in the center of where everyone lives (well, moreso than Cali, for example)
We'll hang out at all the theme parks, and we should be able to put together shirts for all of us, and at this point we're planning on everyone dying their hair a nice dark blue.

If you wanna know the dates, I'm thinking Dec. 27th through Jan. 3rd. That's Thursday to Thursday, which is generally cheaper to fly on.

WONDERLASS like KC said, pooling together and starting a 'fund' to help some of our international buds make it over was one of a couple of cool ideas we've talked about..
It makes sense to use the fund to help anyone (stateside OR overseas) make it to our 1st MONUMENTAL CONVENTION!
Like KC said I think it'd be AWESOME to have it at DisneyWorld Orlando's Islands of Adventure! I feel kinda guilty about that though, because it's only like 3hrs away from where I live http://www.hostboard.com/ubb/frown.gif

It's funny you guys put this up today, because i was just about to ask if anybody was planning on going to the WizardWorld convention in Chicago this August.
I've never gone before, but it looks like this year i will get to.
So if anyone lives near Chicago or was toying with the idea of going, it'd be cool to run into one(or more) of you guys/gals.
Hmm.. week after Christmas... (don't know yet how much time off the boss will give us, or how my folks would feel about that..)
Okay...the main point of the Mon Con would be to get as many of us together as possible, so we're looking for any and all suggestions that would give us that end!

The suggestions given thus far sound good to me. I'm all kinds of excited about the MonCon! I still like the idea of all of us being in NYC, trying to get on the Today show with our Nightcrawler apparel and blue hair (imagine Katie and Matt's faces!), but I'm game for whatever the concensus agrees to.

Alrigt, KC, sounds like a plan! I live in Florida, on the SW coast, so I could definitely make it. After Christmas is great too. I've been to Orlando only once, for a FBLA competition. I loved it! Seriously, I think this is a great idea and I'm willing to help any way I can. Any time is good for me, really, I'm easy. No, not that kind of east SHAME! SHAME on you all... I love Florida myself, so that sounds great and winter would be good since it's the off-season.
We, me and the SO and two other couples, are thinking of going to Wizard World this year. He went last year and had a blast. So maybe we could have a mini Mon Con there for anyone who is planning to go.

Even though I think I maybe, maybe might have enough money (even with the exchange rate http://www.hostboard.com/ubb/mad.gif ) for a trip to somewhere in the States by Christmas next year, I really don't think my parents would let me spend it. They want me to save for college... but I'm really beginning to doubt the entire "delaying of gratification" thing. Save all your piddling after school job salary ($8000? $9000? Whatever, it's Canadian) so you only have to take out some loans for university! Then, once you're making $50,000 to $100,000 (American! Double it for Canadian estimate http://www.hostboard.com/ubb/rolleyes.gif ) it won't take quite as long to pay off your school loans.
Maybe my logic here is off and a life time of living in Saskatchewan has driven me desperately insane, but I'll look into the possibility of actually getting to meet you guys.
For location... um, Florida seems like a popular choice. Even though it's about as far from here as you can get and still be in the US. But it seems like it would be most convenient for the majority.

Well, that's one reason why we're bringing this up now, so that people can start saving money. I very much have this very same problem...I make somewhere aroun $10,000 a year, and I'm living on my own and putting myself through college, so I have very little extra money...But if I know that you people actually want to do this, actually want to get this going, then I can start saving! I figure we've all got until about October before the rates start going sky high, so that's still 6 months to save! I'm going to save extra money on top of that to help out people who are short.

Something also to think about is the fact that we need places to stay after we get there. A reliable source tells me hotel prices in Orlando (which would put us the closest to the theme parks y'all seem intent on visiting) are mucho expensive - perhaps some of us wouldn't mind splitting costs room costs with a fellow elficionado?
And isn't Winter the time when everyone goes to Florida?

I guess we could take a tally of where the Elfaholics most likely to attend live, and figure out what would be the easiest location for all of us to get to?
If we do go the DisneyWorld route, ( subliminal http://www.hostboard.com/ubb/biggrin.gif ) or any other place for that matter, I guess the biggest $$ hurdles would be Travel, Hotel, Food for the duration of the Con, and 'funny money' for whatever it is we wanna do for fun! (Amusement Park, Convention, Movie premiere)
I'm all for starting a pool, and I may actually have a bud or two down here (If we go the Orlando route) that could give us an employee-type discount for certain Hotel chains! (I'll definitely look into that)

Okay...here's some realistic, educated guess numbers...to go to a Florida MonCon, you'll need:
about $300-450 for your round trip plave ticket.
about $50-75 per night for hotel, although more than likely we can set it up so that you can room with one of us other psychos and that'll be cut in half, and BAMF has offered to let some people shack up with him.
about $15-50 per day for food and drink...that stuff is expensivito! If you completely resist eating at the parks, then you'll be able to scrape by relatively cheap, with a few runs to the supermarket.
about $5-40 per day for transportation around Orlando...I figure we can share a rental mini van or two, depending on how many of us show up! (if you want your own car down there, then it'll be $40 or more per day)
about $10 a piece for some blue hair dye, although if you have dark hair it'll be more than that, because we'll have to lighten it first. GO BLONDES!
about $20 a piece for our custom, really nifty, extra cool, incredibly snazzy, VERRRRRRY spiffy MonCon shirts!
about $150-205 for passes to the Disney parks
about $95 for passes to Islands of Adventure and Universal Studios.
however much money you've got to spend on cool junk!!
So that comes to between $645 and $950...but I'd be willing to do that to meet all ya and have a buncha fun!

I stayed in Orlando for the FBLA competition, and I sure do remember how expensive it is! But I could probably save up the money. I'm currently getting disability checks for $353 per month, so if I don't spend any of it, I'm sure to have enough come Christmas. T-shirts sound cool. Actually, riding home yesterday, I came up with an idea for a shirt!(listening to Metallica to boot!) If you don't already have an idea and looking for some suggestions, I can draw the design and send it over e-mail if you like! Just be patient, I just gotta remind myself, the semester's almost over...it's almost over...it's almost over....

Aw, BAMF! http://www.hostboard.com/ubb/biggrin.gif But money isn't really the biggest problem. (*pulls out calculator* Hmm, $645 = $962, $950 = $1418... yeah, no problem.) My parents just will not let me go. I know this. The only way I can see any sort of chance is if Biscuit went... but, um, you'd have to talk to Biscuit about why she can't go. I'm of less than complete understanding. Or, if they'd met someone else who was going to be there.
And as for Jezie, there's not an icicle's chance in hell that she'll go. Now there are some over-protective parents. And I can't see my parents relying on Jezie to protect me. Biscuit always acts calm and responsible when around my parents... Jezie, um, I don't think I've ever seen Jezie even pretend to be relaxed.
But this is a long way off so anything's possible, maybe. Gee, I sure am optimistic lately!

I've been thinkin' bout this design, and I really like it a lot...the only problems I see are the points on the shoulders and the fact that a whole lot of people aren't going to have any idea at all what it means...I'm going to play arouns with the idea and do some major tweaking...I'll post it up here later!
