Summer Fun Issue: Wish List?

Hi. I've been gone for quite some time, and, come to think of it, when I was here last, I was pretty much the lurker. Anyway. It's good to be back?

Read some tangents in the WWC & UberSIP threads, and found myself snickering at the idea of a StarWars/SIP Parody Thingie.

Snickering in a *good* way.

So, in the grand tradition of Hypothetical Movie Casting and The Soundtracks In Our Heads...

What would *you* like to see parody'd/crossover'd in the now traditional summer fun issue?

No hesitation on this one...Buffy the Vampire Slayer. Just like Terry, Joss Whedon is a creator that isn't afraid to challenge the status quo, create fun and entertaining female characters, intertwine comedy/drama/suspense in such a way that the lines aren't very clear.

I think Katchoo as Buffy, Franchine as Willow, David as Xander, and Tambi as Faith would be absolutely the thing to make this fanboy's brain explode all over the page.

that is perfect! I wouldn't mind seeing a Pulp Fiction parody... or maybe the wizard of Oz? Francie as Dorothy, David as the Tin Man, Katchoo as the Scarecrow or the Lion, even tho' she's got a working brain and heart. Maybe Freddie as the Lion... as Tambi as the Good Witch Glinda! Isn't that just broken?

well, that would make MY brain explode....not in a good way, mind you.... I know there are tons of Buffy fans here, so again I'll voice my lone dissent. That would just basically be a cross over, not much parody. Sort of a fan fiction what if kinda thing.To be honest, after the last one, I'm kinda hoping Terry doesn't do one this year.....

Hmmmm, I love the Wizard of Oz idea. And the Star Wars one. How about a Peanuts parody? Or X-men one (i know we've already had a superhero one, though)?

For a fun summer issue, I'd like to see Katchoo Francine and David just lounging around somewhere (beach, couch, whatever...) daydreaming and talking about what they think the perfect day would be. One could start, and while they narrate we could 'see' what they where describing. Then one of the other characters would break in with a "Oh! Yeah! And then..." or a "Yeah, just like a..." and the tale would warp as the other person's ideas got jumbled up with what they where originally talking about... It could go back and forth between them. I see lots of great possibilities... *BEG*

Of course, I realize there's an excellent chance that no one has ANY clue what I'm talking about... Sorry, it makes sense to me. But then again, I'm working on my seventh Coke today... http://www.hostboard.com/ubb/eek.gif

I'd be happy with a Paradise Too II on the side, maybe a nice melon for subscribers, which would keep the plot rolling.

Or, another flashback to those cheery halcyon days of the beach, touch football and hoagies, which all seem to take place in the void between issues 12 and 18.

I'm still holding out for a miniseries about the year before Volume I.

I know what you're getting at, choovanski. There's a Japanese movie called Roshomon, which I haven't seen myself, but which many TV shows have done their take on. (All in the Family did one of the best ones. There's also a MASH sequence where Frank is charging Hawkeye with mutiny where they use that idea.) That would be an excellent idea. Imagine Freddie's take on some event from their lives! The same event recalled in each character's POV differently would be perfect for Terry's bunch! http://www.hostboard.com/ubb/smile.gif

I don't remember the other characters but I think it would be a nice one-shot or miniseries if it was done more with humor and direct parody than with serious action.

Buffy was first on my list too... I agree with everything SonNLaw said, except... the casting is *tricky*.

I'm a bit geographically challenged; I'm still waiting for Season 4. So I'm *not* going to mention Tara and Willow.

Katchoo seems more like Faith on a good day... No, wait. Veronica = Faith. Yeah. And David is Oz. ("You may seem all calm and collected, but I know you've got the beast in you.") Tambi... is Spike. Evil, but sympathic. And I suppose, Freddie and Casey are the Twisted Mirror Universe versions of Xander and Cordelia? (Ok, I'm losing it.)

But, DarthF, it can't be *fanfic* if Terry does it, can it? =)

I thought about mentioning Veronica as Faith, but she just doesn't have ANY of the redeeming qualities that Faith has...Tambi isn't evil in my eyes...maybe Terry could bring back Bambi to play Spike...but then Spike and Faith would be twins. That seems a bit too Star Wars-ish (not that this is a bad thing, but we're talknig Buffy here, not SW). Hey, I've got it...how about a SW/Buffy crossover spoof?

X-Files. Definitely, definitely.

Well, cross overs are stickier than parodies. parodies are protected under the 1st amendment, but cross overs need to be approved by the owners, in the X-Files case, because no one owns the X-Files comics master liscense, you'd have to go straight to Fox. Buffy's comic liscense is owned by Dark Horse, but I am sure it woulld still have to get past the Buffy people for somehting like this. Better to just leave the lawyers out of it and parody...or just come up with something new and unimportant(but entertaining)

I like the Buffy parody idea, that would be funny. The rundown:

Katchoo as Buffy, David as Xander, Casey as Willow, Francine as Cordelia, Mike Walsh as Giles, and Freddie as the Master.

Huh? Yeah? Or have Adam Warren take a crack at an SIP story. That I would love to see.

But the characters in SiP are nothing like those in Xena, and that parody was a huge success. Actually, I think that's why I liked it so much...seeing our favorite characters trying on different hats (or, at least trying to)was a nice break from the tension that was going on at the time.

I like the Buffy idea, but I'd have Francine be Buffy, with Katchoo as Willow (keeping David as Xander). That way, Terry could continue the whole "sidekick" gag.

Willow (Katchoo): So you're the Slayer?

Buffy (Francine): That's right. And you're my comic-relief sidekick.

Willow: Sidekick? Sidekick!!!

Then they get attacked by vamps...etc. etc.

Actually, SiP is so much like Xena in so many aspects, it's what made it really kewl! Not only do the main characters sort of looked alike, they had the same 'are they or aren't they' feel about lesbianism, and they had one doopy kid in love with the blonde. Xena and Kat are practically the same thing. (good people gone bad, trying to not let their past bug their new loved one's) and Gab and Francie were at first very much alike (Innocent kids, just wanting to be next to their best friends) but they've all gone thru so many changes...

I mean, least, that's the way I see it.

I think Darcy would enjoy her stint as a formic, but I think Francie'd make a better Valentine. Some deeply warped suggestions all round.

for my part, I'd rather see a comedic story where all the usual suspects(no, not Kevin spacey!) were in the background, with the focus on something or someone new.

I'm lookin' at the Xena issue and thinking, man, K's ear is rather pointy in that one picture. Very elfin. A bit like.... Peter Pan? Yeah? In the stage version, you know, he's always played by a girl with a thing for Wendy, who won't return the affection... Okay, consider this:

Kapeter Choopanski and Tambibell swoop into the Houston cityscape, and a rent house bedroom window. They sprinkle baby powder on Francine (Wendy) and fly off to Maui, where with the help of lost boy David, they battle Captain Freddie (who once lost part of his anatomy to an electric carving knife).

It writes itself! Did I mention first mate Smee/Chuck... 'Schmuck?' Hmm...
