Boy, I hate to start some "same old tired" here, BUT... ;c) [key word here is "but"]...

I've listened to PX's Atlantis Lost Continent again off Live Oz again, &...
I'm just checking out the tune Ataraxia off Moonbabies...

Anyone who thinks Virgil quote-unquote "can't groove" should have their head examined as to what groove is...the only thing I might could hear anyone even remotely possibly say is perhaps the snare is a little "bright" relative to the rest of the groove...MAYBE [img]graemlins/whatever.gif[/img] ...[?!-can ya say, "nitpicky" or "splittin' atoms?"], whereas Gadd, Carlos, or Jeff may have pulled it back just a hair [there i go comparing players again...& this kind of analysis / breakdown becomes borderline ridiculous at some point]...

...but it's still groovin' lakka mofro...& the verses here are groovin' strong AW... ;cp

Now, of course, before it gets to it, we all know that it's obvious we are not talking about an R&B or funk groove here... [img]eek.gif[/img] [img]graemlins/hmmm.gif[/img] [img]graemlins/whatever.gif[/img]

Just checkin' to see if'n some of you folks who call yourselves drummers still have a pulse...LOL /;c) ...[dont let yourself fall for the "goad-goad, taunt-taunt"] /:cP ;cP

Hey Guy's what is up? How Ya doing Fuse? You sound good. It has been awhile. Too busy with MORE important issues I guess [img]wink.gif[/img] Not that the music is still not important, will always be. I have beaten this Old Horse so many times there is not much left to beat. Virg can Groove that is all I have to say. Great story I just read today at Virgil's board today though, something very different. A drumming Bro (Daniel) was in L.A. from Australia and he hooked up with Virg for a lesson and Daniel happens to be left handed, with his kit set up in the opposite manner and Virg say's hey I will play this way to help make things easier and what do you know, the Bro say's Virg play's EVERYTHING left hand and foot lead as proficiently as right. His mind was BLOWN to say the least.

Would of liked to have been at the recent BP gig that had Virg performing with Richman, Carpenter and Weingart. From what I heard Virg tore it up like never before. Man I need to get to L.A. [img]graemlins/cry.gif[/img]

I've been known to 'disappear' for lengths of time here & there...when 'real life' calls...I'm spending some time in here lately, as I'm going through one of those drum "down" times, where I'm not "hitting it so hard"...in between practice/jam sessions [img]tongue.gif[/img]

Yeah, Dij...as we've said b4, when I saw him last in that clinc I spoke of earlier this year, the guy was playing these complex even & odd-time patterns leading w his RH & whatever foot, & then, w/out stopping, switching to the same exact groove leadg w LH & other foot...L & R/side to side...up & down [top/bottom - hands/feet]...it was just plain ol' stoopit. AND...it grooved lakka mutha. [Giving some credence to Pete C's position on open-H playg [img]wink.gif[/img] ]
I know Virg started playg the drums originally w RH on HH [typical standard rightey way].

But to me, these groove patterns groove even more when you hear him with the entire band on the PX recordgs than even in the clinic...
That Ataraxia 7 is a killer groove...& the L-hats are done w his LF & NOT his LH, which stays on snare the whole time [in the clinic, anyway!]...

I just needed some inspiration to kick my axe here lately, so I popped on some PX...

I was just joking with Fuse though.

i find that serious young insects stuff and a lot of the PX stuff literally addictive it's like brain candy ...something to do with the math and the thinking behind the composition and playing ...i mean i dig it as great music but theres an element there with the rhythms thats other worldly.

like that section in warfinger where the feet are jamming with the heavy guitar part and the hands are playing another thing with the keyboard parts thats the sort of stuff i find addictive, or the accent patterns in quantum factor ..just seems to be so much depth behind it ..i really appreciate that so much has been put in so i can relisten for ages trying to get inside it a little so to speak.

NOTHING worse IMO than sitting at the Potato listening to the great guitar work of Jeff Richman with Joel Taylor on drums and Jimmy Johnson on bass and after an insane tune the "jazz crowd" applauds with the emotion of meeting your landlord while paying for rent!

When I saw Steve play at a small jazz coffee place, my favorite part of the gig was when he let his emotions go and yelled out, ?YEAH!? after the guitar solo. Tell me you wouldn?t want to play with someone not only diggin? the jam, but supportin? the other ?cats? in the band!

I would venture a guess that most of us are troll's here on this board if trolling equates to sharing one's passion as it relates to a certain musician, a certain band, a particular tune, style, technique etc. I am guilty as charged many times over.
