I've had this stuck in my head all week...
Bring The Noize by Public Enemy
Bass! How low can you go?
death row, what a brother knows
once again, back, is the incredible
rhyme animal, the incredible D!
public enemy #1
five-o said "freeze!" and i got numb
should i tell them that i never really had a gun -
it's just the wax that Terminator X spun
now they've got me in a cell
'cause on the records they sell
another brother like me said, "well
Farakhan's a prophet and i think you ought to listen to
what he can say to you."
what you oughta do is power-up now
powerful people say "make a miracle D,
pump the lyrical."
black is back, all in, we're gonna win
check it out
(yeah y'all come on!)
here we go again
turn it up!
bring the noize!
never badder than bad 'cause the brothers are madder than mad
that the facts're corrupt like a senator
sold on the road, but you treat it like soap on a rope
'cause the beats and the lies are so dope!
listen for lessons i'm saying inside music
that the critics are all blasting me for
they'll never care for the brothers and sisters
across the country who've been brought up in the war
we got to demonstrate (come on now!)
they're gonna have to wait ('til we get it right!)
radio stations, i question their blackness
they call themselves black but we'll see if they play this
turn it up!
bring the noize!
get from in front of me
the crowd runs to me
my dj is warm, he's X, i call him norm
you know, he can cut a record from side to side
so with the ride and glide it's so much safer than a suicide
soul control, beat is the father of your rock'n'roll
music for what'n for which'n you call a band, man
makin' a music, abuse it, but you can't do it, you know
you call 'em demos, but we ride limos too
what you gonna do? rap is not afraid of you
beat is for Sonny Bono (beat is for Yoko Ono)
Run-DMC first said a dj could be a band
stand on his own feet, get you out of your seat
beat is for Eric B and LL as well
hell, wax is for Anthrax, still it can rock bells
ever forever, universal it will sell
time for me to exit, Terminator X it
turn it up!
bring the noize!
from coast to coast so you stop being like a comatose
stand my man, the beat's the same with a boast-toast
rock with some pizzaz, it will last
why you ask?
roll with the rock stars you'll never get accepted as
we got to plead the Fifth, we can't investigate
don't need to wait get the record straight
HEY!
posse in effect, got Flavor & Terminator
X to sign checks, play to get paid
we got to check it out down on the avenue
a magazine or two is dissin' me and dissin' you
yeah, I'm tellin' you
-
this song won't let go of me till i figure out some way to play/perform it. i think it's gonna join the creature 57 rotation list. -g
the last song
this song, your song, is the last song i'll ever do
for you, about me, 'cause your games are through. i won't think, i won't breathe, i won't even close my eyes to dream. i'd starve you right out of me if i knew what else to eat. you said, this would be, the last time you'd ever hurt me. you said, this would be, the last time i'd ever cry. last time, i didn't know, how was i supposed to know? this time, i found it, i know how to scream.
I DON'T OWE YOU ANYTHING. I'M NOT A PART OF YOU. YOU CAN'T TAKE AWAY EVERYTHING. I'M NOT A PART OF YOU.
this song, your song, is the only song, i'll ever do, about you, for me, so i can stay alive. i can't think, i can't breathe, i can't even close my eyes to dream. i need you out of me before i turn into you. i can't stand to look at you, until you remember everything. i can't be what you are, what you think, what you do. i know what it means when, i look at you, i look at you. and this time, i'm looking and telling on you.
I DON'T OWE YOU ANYTHING. I'M NOT A PART OF YOU. WILL TIME TELL ME ANYTHING? I AM COMING AFTER YOU.
can you feel me coming after you? can you feel, i'm right behind you? can you hear me, telling on you? can you feel me tearing out of you?
this song, your song, is the last song, i'll ever do, for you, about me, 'cause your games are through. this time, i don't feel bad, for anything i've ever said. and this time, i want them to know what you did.

i was extolling the virtues of Jets-to-Brazil lyrics to gollum a little while ago, so i thought i'd start a thread whereupon we all post whatever song lyrics have caught our fancy of late. here's my first contribution:
King Medicine (Jets to Brazil)
know that you'll soon go crazy just like a whittling stick
hit by the coming daylight cut up in quick succession
a pointed confession really stripped of all your armor
down to your very nature beneath the haze and vapor gaze
you're such a willing stick to beckon that wanting knife
you've been looking for it the right blade all your life
saying "who's gonna cut me down to a size that suits me?
is there a worthy sculptor among all you fine young knives?"
it's enough to make you take your head and put it on a shelf
to cut the heart out from your chest they'll come for that as well
tell me how you do that crazy trick where you walk around asleep
save it for your doctor friend the one who keeps you under lock and key
you'll soon go screaming like a bargain basement lunatic who's
not so specialized that they couldn't just replace you
why don't you start crying for all that you've got left here
why don't you stop dying before you go and get it right
now you're selling off the house so you can buy the farm
you cut the heart out from your chest to let the light in through your arm
it's enough to make you take your head and put it in a bag
to cut the teeth out at the pink now there's nothing in the bag
foul weather friend you are so dying an amateur chemist now
king medicine when is it perfect? where is it taking you?
there is no cure only reprieve some fleeting joy posing as balance
nothing is sure so every four hours king medicine
this subject loves you
take care

My favorite by AIC.
ROOSTER by Alice In Chains
ain't found a way to kill me yet
eyes burn with stinging sweat
seems every path leads me to nowhere
wife and kids, household pet
army green was no safe bet
the bullet screams to me from somewhere
(chorus)
here they come to snuff the rooster
yeah, here come the rooster
you know he ain't gonna die
(solo, chorus)
walkin' tall machine gun man
they spit on me in my homeland
Gloria sent me pictures of my boy
got my pills 'gainst mosquito death
my buddy's breathin' his dyin' breath
oh God please won't you help me make it through
(chorus)

That's my favorite Alice In Chains song also.
The eerie melody made it a fave before I even found out what the song was about.

Angel by Jimi Hendrix
Angel came down from heaven yesterday
she stayed with me just long enough to rescue me
and she told me a story yesterday
about the sweet love between the moon and the deep blue sea
and then she spread her wings high over me
she said she's going to come back tomorrow
and i said fly on my sweet angel
fly on through the sky
fly on my sweet angel
tomorrow i'm gonna be by your side
sure enough this mornin' came unto me
silver wings silhouetted against a child's sunrise
and my angel she said unto me
"today is the day for you to rise
take my hand, you're goin' be my man, you're goin' rise"
and then she take me high over yonder
and i said fly on my sweet angel
fly on through the sky
fly on my sweet angel
forever i'm gonna be by your side

"All My Heroes Were Junkies
In 1968, he did shots with the Doors at the Whiskey-a-Go-Go
It was on one of those hot Hollywood summer nights
He says, 'Jimmy came in tight leather slacks, it was hot as hell
But we were drinking Jack, his eyes were like quarters
Round, and black when he stepped under the stage lights...
'And you know me,' he says, 'I had pawned my only camera
I had no way to record those fleeting Kodak moments
The sprung to life each Saturday night
I was too far gone back then to have known it...'
He says, 'All my heroes were junkies,
Now all my heroes are dead'
I say, 'Hey Tony, consider yourself lucky
To be a junkie in a hospital bed'
He says, 'You know Judy Garland never showed up
When I took my walk in the Land of Oz
Though a cop did on a purple horse one morning
He asked me why I was staggering
I said "because -- because, because, because
The wizard never gave me no surgeon general's warning."'
He says, 'All my heroes were junkies
Now all my heroes are dead.'
I say, 'Hey Tony, consider yourself lucky
To be a junkie in a hospital bed'
'Who rolled the joint when Bob Dylan
Got high with the Beatles?' He says,
'Who put my world on pins and needles?'
He tells the nurses they should do something
With the ceiling in the rehab ward
Like paint a fresco to the late, great Betty Ford
They come in and make their jokes about
Pulling out all his power chords
He tells them, 'Couldn't you come up with
Something I didn't already know?'
He says, 'All my heroes were junkies
Now all my heroes are dead'
I say, 'Hey Tony, consider yourself lucky
To be a junkie in a hospital bed.'"

Whenever a lyric gets stuck in my head, it's only ever a couple of lines or so. At the moment, this old couplet from Red Box is rattling round my brain...
"Now I hate to cut through strands of hope,
We've a ten foot hole and a five foot rope."
It appeals to me somehow.
-
Twinkle
sure that star can twinkle
and you're watching it do
boy so hard boy so hard
but I know a girl
twice as hard
and I'm sure said I'm sure
she's watching it too
no matter what tie she's got in her right dresser tied
I know she's watching that star
gonna twinkle
gonna twinkle
gonna twinkle
and last time i knew
she worked in an Abbey in Iona
she said "I killed a man T
I've gotta stay hidden in this Abbey"
but I can see that star
when she twinkles
and she twinkles
and I sure can
that means
I sure can
that means
I sure can
so hard
so hard
~that is my bedtime song, and a bedtime song is the very most important. so, goodnight little dollies and fairy friends!

Sweet Jane (Lou Reed)
Standin' on a corner
Suitcase in my hand
Jack's in his corset, Jane is in her vest
me, honey, I'm in a rock 'n' roll band
Riding a Stutz Bear Cat, Jim
ya know, those were different times
all the poets studied rules of verse
and those ladies they rolled their eyes
Now Jack, he is a banker
and Jane, she's a clerk
and both of them save their money
when they come home from work
sittin' down by the fire
the radio does play
The March of the Wooden Soldiers
and you can hear Jack say
Sweet Jane
Sweet Jane
Some people they like to go out dancin'
and other people, like us, we got to work
and there's even some evil mothers
Well they're gonna tell you that everything is just made out of dirt
that pretty women never really faint
and that villains always blink their eyes
that children are the only ones who blush
and that life is just to die
But anyone who ever had a heart
they wouldn't turn around and break it
and anyone who ever played a part
They wouldn't turn around and hate it
Sweet Jane, Sweet Sweet Jane

Some good stuff posted so far. (btw, Gollum, you are a Sleater-Kinney groupie!). Here's a Rainer Maria song.
lost dropped and cancelled
expect me like one waits for mail,
all lost dropped and cancelled.
like foreign post, i leave twice a day
but take a week to get there.
expect me like one waits for rain,
or sleet or hail or snowfall.
like foreign post, i'm lost on the way
and take a week to get there.
i want to be delivered
'til i'm gone gone gone.
the way it's sealed in my heart, i
t's guaranteed that i'm
in your hands
by morning, when you're ready
to read between the lines
and the paper isn't telling you anything.
if you miss me, drop me a line
in care of fin de siecle,
mit luftwaffe.
it's the end of the end of the end.
here's where you can listen to this song on-line if you want:

on the road
i left new york
nineteen forty nine
to go 'cross country
without one damn dime
in old denver
in the cold cold fall
i found my father
in a gambling hall
don't worry about
when it time to go
home in mississppi
home in tennessee
home in arizona
home i'll never be
home in oklahoma
home in kankankee
home in minnesota
home i'll never be
he said don't worry
we're shifting this gear
i talked to mary
she's a beautiful girl
now we no evil
like I'm telling you
went to the city
to praise the lord
don't worry now buddy
don't worry about me
don't ever worry
i found my saviour
that night my father died
in the cold cold rain

While I could post the whole RENT soundtrack on here, I think I'll be satisfied with this.

Will I lose my dignity?
Will someone care?
Will I wake tomorrow

The Rainbow Connection - Muppets
Why are there so many songs about rainbows
And what's on the other side
Rainbows are visions but only illusions
And rainbows have nothing to hide
So we've been told and some choose to believe it
I know they're wrong, wait and see
{Refrain}Someday we'll find it
The rainbow connection
The lovers, the dreamers and me
Who said that ev'ry wish would be heard and answered
When wished on the morning star
Somebody thought of that, and someone believed it
Look what it's done so far
What's so amazing that keeps us stargazing
And what do we think we might see
{Refrain}
All of us under its spell
We know that it's probably magic
Have you been half-asleep and have you heard voices
I've heard them calling my name
Is this the sweet sound that calls the young sailors
The voice might be one and the same
I've heard it too many times to ignore it
It's something that I'm s'posed to be
{Refrain}

jones-i prefer the term "fangrrl", thanks. ;)
stella blue
the grateful dead
All the years combine
they melt into a dream
A broken angel sings
from a guitar
In the end there's just a song
comes crying like the wind
through all the broken dreams
and vanished years
Stella Blue
When all the cards are down
there's nothing left to see
There's just the pavement left
and broken dreams
In the end there's still that song
comes crying like the wind
down every lonely street
that's ever been
Stella Blue
I've stayed in every blue-light cheap hotel
Can't win for trying
Dust off those rusty strings just
one more time
Gonna make em shine
It all rolls into one
and nothing comes for free
There's nothing you can hold
for very long
And when you hear that song
come crying like the wind
it seems like all this life
was just a dream
Stella Blue

A little fishstick...
Sunless Saturday
I see the pestilence outside my window
I see the dung-heaps piled at least a mile hight
I see the shards of shattered dreams in the street
I greet the morning with my customary sigh
I hear the sounds of children laughing aloud
A stumbling wino has attracted quite a crowd
My breakfast's finished, now I brave the outside
But all the clouds have hidden all the warmth inside
Take these clouds away
I hate this sunless Saturday
Freedom come for us now, light our skies, burn away these clouds...
Perhaps the charcoal gray and brown around me
Is just the mirror image of my tainted soul
I think the sun will never visit my sky
Until the truth is seen by each and every eye
I see the helpless and I see the insane
I see a pauper standing in the pouring rain
I see the means of help elude us again
I think the sun will never visit me again
Take these clouds away
I hate this sunless Saturday...

i believe this song's called green buckets, or green plastic buckets, or something like that, but i could be completely wrong. it's by Clutch, and *i* consider it a love song. unfortunately, none of the boyz i've dated have agreed. (the bastards!1) anywho, it's a sweet lil hardcore love song. (Clutch is awesome, by the way. i highly recommend them. "elephant riders" is one of my favorite albums.) -g
green plastic buckets (i think)
won't you come over and stay for a while?
take a seat have a drink we'd have a nice time
turn on the tv i believe it's prime time
i'll make ya chicken caccitori in five
there's a woman down in 314 who can't keep the stains on her kitchen floor clean
and there's a man who's been knockin on his own door for three years
or has it been four
i, i, i, i don't wanna spend the winter in this house all alone
those neighbors of mine keep comin on over and playing with my mind
i would like to love you
i sure would treat you right
we could take the trash out
every thursday night
here in my neighborhood there is the strangest thing
green buckets every friday at every driveway
they're filled with glasses, plastics, and newspapers too
they say they recycle and bring 'em back to you
i would like to love you
i sure would treat you right
we could take the trash out
every thursday night
we could be a family
consume many goods
we could be the pillars
of the neighborhood
oh babe, i'm a real hard worker
with the proper tools i'll make ya anything ya yearn for
the barbarians are at the gate
come in before it's too late
got food enough to last the two of us about a year
a thousand cans of chowder and a thousand cans of beer
i love my neighbors like i love my own brother
but every year they're getting odder and odder
i would like to love you
i sure would treat you right
we could take the trash out
every thursday night
we could be a family
consume many goods
we could be the pillars
of the neighborhood

Bob Dylan...It's Alright Ma
Darkness at the break of noon
Shadows even the silver spoon
The handmade blade, the child's balloon
Eclipses both the sun and moon
To understand you know too soon
There is no sense in trying.
Pointed threats, they bluff with scorn
Suicide remarks are torn
From the fool's gold mouthpiece
The hollow horn plays wasted words
Proves to warn
That he not busy being born
Is busy dying.
Temptation's page flies out the door
You follow, find yourself at war
Watch waterfalls of pity roar
You feel to moan but unlike before
You discover
That you'd just be
One more person crying.
So don't fear if you hear
A foreign sound to your ear
It's alright, Ma, I'm only sighing.
As some warn victory, some downfall
Private reasons great or small
Can be seen in the eyes of those that call
To make all that should be killed to crawl
While others say don't hate nothing at all
Except hatred.
Disillusioned words like bullets bark
As human gods aim for their mark
Made everything from toy guns that spark
To flesh-colored Christs that glow in the dark
It's easy to see without looking too far
That not much
Is really sacred.
While preachers preach of evil fates
Teachers teach that knowledge waits
Can lead to hundred-dollar plates
Goodness hides behind its gates
But even the president of the United States
Sometimes must have
To stand naked.
An' though the rules of the road have been lodged
It's only people's games that you got to dodge
And it's alright, Ma, I can make it.
Advertising signs that con you
Into thinking you're the one
That can do what's never been done
That can win what's never been won
Meantime life outside goes on
All around you.
You lose yourself, you reappear
You suddenly find you got nothing to fear
Alone you stand with nobody near
When a trembling distant voice, unclear
Startles your sleeping ears to hear
That somebody thinks
They really found you.
A question in your nerves is lit
Yet you know there is no answer fit to satisfy
Insure you not to quit
To keep it in your mind and not fergit
That it is not he or she or them or it
That you belong to.
Although the masters make the rules
For the wise men and the fools
I got nothing, Ma, to live up to.
For them that must obey authority
That they do not respect in any degree
Who despise their jobs, their destinies
Speak jealously of them that are free
Cultivate their flowers to be
Nothing more than something
They invest in.
While some on principles baptized
To strict party platform ties
Social clubs in drag disguise
Outsiders they can freely criticize
Tell nothing except who to idolize
And then say God bless him.
While one who sings with his tongue on fire
Gargles in the rat race choir
Bent out of shape from society's pliers
Cares not to come up any higher
But rather get you down in the hole
That he's in.
But I mean no harm nor put fault
On anyone that lives in a vault
But it's alright, Ma, if I can't please him.
Old lady judges watch people in pairs
Limited in sex, they dare
To push fake morals, insult and stare
While money doesn't talk, it swears
Obscenity, who really cares
Propaganda, all is phony.
While them that defend what they cannot see
With a killer's pride, security
It blows the minds most bitterly
For them that think death's honesty
Won't fall upon them naturally
Life sometimes
Must get lonely.
My eyes collide head-on with stuffed graveyards
False gods, I scuff
At pettiness which plays so rough
Walk upside-down inside handcuffs
Kick my legs to crash it off
Say okay, I have had enough
What else can you show me?
And if my thought-dreams could be seen
They'd probably put my head in a guillotine
But it's alright, Ma, it's life, and life only.

Currently, I'm seriously out of it, drunk, on a Friday night, yet still quietly contented, just waiting for jones to concoct the newest chapters of Works & Days... oh yeah. 8-)
Anyway, here's a little ditty I remember from when I was a kid. I liked it then, and I still like it now. 's called "John Kettley Is A Weatherman"
OOOOhhhhhhhh
Ayrton Senna's got the voice of a tenor
Peter Snow sings very low
Mark Barano is a soprano
and John Kettley, John Kettley, John Kettley
is a weatherman
John Kettley is a weatherman
a weatherman
a weatherman
John Kettley is a weatherman
and so is Michael Fish
Simon Parkin's always larkin
Eric Lane is the same
Jonothan Ross collects moss
and John Kettley, John Kettley, John Kettley
is a weatherman
Lester Piggot couldn't dig it
David Icke rides a bike
Richard Keys has got no knees
and John Kettley, John Kettley, John Kettley
is a weatherman
Debbie Thrower's got a lawnmower
Johnny Marr he plays guitar
David Steele lives in Keele
and John Kettley, John Kettley, John Kettley
is a weatherman
Chuck Knox has blue socks
Andy Crane has got no brain
Bernard Davy left the navy
and John Kettley, John Kettley, John Kettley
is a weatherman
John Kettley is a weatherman
a weatherman
a weatherman
John Kettley is a weatherman
and so is Michael Fish
and so is Billy Giles
and so is Ian McGaskill
so is Wincy Willis
The lyrics will probably make absolutely no sense if you're not British, but if you are, then they should raise a titter. 8-)

It Says Here Different Version
It says here that the Unions will never learn
It says here that the economy is on the upturn
And it says here we should be proud
That we are free
And our free press reflects our democracy
Those braying voices on the right of the House
Are echoed down the Street of Shame
Where politics mix with bingo and tits
In a strictly money and numbers game
Where they offer you a feature
On stockings and suspenders
Next to a call for stiffer penalties for sex offenders
It says here that this year's prince is born
It says here do you ever wish
That you were better-informed
And it says here that we can only stop the rot
With a large dose of Law and Order
And a touch of the short sharp shock
If this does not reflect your view you should understand
That those who own the papers also own this land
And they'd rather you believed
In Coronation Street capers
In the war of circulation, it sells newspapers
Could it be an infringement
Of the freedom of the press
To print pictures of women in states of undress
When you wake up to the fact
That your paper is Tory
Just remember, there are two sides to every story
Billy Bragg

This is a fave song of mine at the moment
I hope You like it
This song also contains samples from "Lazaraki Bouenets" By Le Mystere
TEMPTATION - by VAST
I went in the desert
I went searching for the truth
I stumbled across you and I
Know your not the truth
I went in the ocean
I came looking for some love
All I found is that I found
I havent found enough
I stand alone now
I stand alone
But can you save me from myself
You are my temptation
To do what I knew is wrong
You are my temptation
To do what I knew is wrong
What I knew is wrong
I stand alone now
I stand alone
But can you save me from myself
They've been killing children
And nobody seems to care
They've been laughing at my god
My god I wouldn't dare
You are my temptation

Funny...
I just have a dumb song stuck in my head, but it's catchy and fun and kitchy and slightly kinky...
Darling Nikki by Prince hehehehehe
I knew a girl named Nikki
I guess you could say she was a sex fiend
I met her in a hotel lobby
Masturbating with a magazine
She said how'd you like to waste some time
And I could not resist when I saw little Nikki grind
She took me to her castle
And I just couldn't believe my eyes
She had so many devices
Everything that money could buy
She said sign your name on the dotted line
The lights went out
And Nikki started to grind
The castle started spinning
Or maybe it was my brain
I can't tell you what she did to me
But me body will never be the same
her lovin' will kick your behind
She'll show you no mercy
But she'll sho nuff sho nuff show you how to grind
I woke up the next morning
Nikki wasn't there
I looked all over
All I found was a phone number on the stairs
It said thank you for a funky time
Call me up whenever you want to grind
heh...I have other songs to put here, but i don't know all the lyrics http://www.hostboard.com/ubb/smile.gif

what's he building in there?
what the hell is he building
in there?
he has subscriptions to those
magazines... he never
waves when he goes by
he's hiding something from
the rest of us... he's all
to himself... i think i know
why... he took down the
tire swing from the peppertree
he has no children of his
own you see... he has no dog
and he has no friends and
his lawn is dying... and
what about all those packages
he sends? What's he building in there?
with that hook light
on the stairs. What's he building
in there... i'll tell you one thing
he's not building a playhouse for
the children... what's he building
in there?
now what's that sound
from under the door?
he's pounding nails into a
hardwood floor... and i
swear to god i heard someone
moaning low... and i keep
seeing the blue light of a
tv show... he has a router
and a table saw... and you
won't believe what Mr. Sticha saw
there's poison underneath the sink
of course... but there's also
enough formaldehyde to choke
a horse... what's he building
in there? what the hell is he
building in there? i heard he
has an ex-wife in some place
called 'mayors income, tennessee'
and he used to have a
consulting business in indonesia...
but what is he building in there?
what the hell is he building in there?
he has no friends
but he gets a lot of mail
i'll bet he spent a little
time in jail...
i heard he was up on the
roof last night
signaling with a flashlight
and what's that tune he's
always whistling?
what's he building in there?
what the hell is he building in there?
we have a right to know...
