Ah so you have JBL woofers? What are you using on the highs?
Anyone using non Altec drivers above the 515 in an 817?
My bad, it was actually 815's that we ran 2226's in. We're going back 20 years or more now, really stretching the brain before caffeine. ;)
That said, when we first put the system together we ran 2441's on large McCauley slant lens horns, later switched to a pair of 2445/2385 per side so they could bot be splayed for a bit broader HF coverage and better overall power handling. The system was used almost exclusively outdoors. What i remember best is that i don't miss moving big speakers, especially in the rain, heat, snow, 4 am, etc..

Fire exits and fire escapes have long been used for load in/load out access. This usually doesn't pose any problems with regard to rules/regs as it is done outside of the venue's hours of operation to the public.
Of course laws and regulations vary from city to city and state to state.

If you build a cabinet for 817 with 515b woofers, can the woofers be swapped to 515G or vice versa?

The cab is tuned somewhat higher than either's Fs, so yes, just may need different EQ frequency shaping.
I meant, if an Altec 817 cab is made to house 515b, canthe 515g be swapped? I am asking from a mechanical view point.Quote:

bonzo, if you build a 817 cabinet for a 515b with a 14 9\16 bolt hole diameter the g will fit. if you build a 817 cabinet to the altec plans the 515b will not fit. they list the bolt hole diameter at 15 inches. and in the 816 at 15 1\8. i never knew this till i looked it up this evening. i have 816 cabinets at work and will verify this tomorrow. which is funny since they give a listed output of a 515b in a 816 cabinet

bonzo, measured the 816 cabinet today. 14 9\16. I don't know why the 1970's enclosure plans had it different. the 515g will work with the 14 9\16.

Later 515B is built on the same 16 inch frame as 515G.
The 16 inch frames have slots rather than holes for the mounting bolts such that they will work with a range of different bolt circles.
The slots and the bit of forgiveness they offer in getting the bolts started in their respective T-nuts is well appreciated. Those fellas who have loaded 515's into 210 cabinets without help know exactly what i'm talking about.

I just did it.
Right click on the page. Select "Print"
It will bring up your printer. And show a preview.
In the box that says printer, there should be a drop down.
Select "Microsoft Print to PDF"
Hit Print, then tell it what folder or wherever else you might want it to go.
This is assuming Windows 10
When done, assuming it works, you will have to set the print back to your printer, otherwise Print stays in PDF mode.
In the 80's, I contacted a gentleman named Jim Dickenson. I had A7's at the time. He sent me those booklets on the Large and Small VOTT's and how to make them better.
Along with a handwritten letter telling me to not blow up my 802-8G diaphragms because they were no longer available. I was looking for an 806A diaphragm at the time.
i imagine you all remember him. Anyway, I have those on paper. Now I have the pdf.

Look like the earlier frame. Show us the back side.
The earlier frame was designed for mounting on the back side of the baffle. The 16” frame can be rear or front mounted.

As Bowtie said, the 16” frame will accommodate the earlier bolt circle. But I believe there were early cabinets that physically couldn’t accommodate the width of the 16” frame. I’ve seen photos where a band saw was used to narrow the driver to get them to fit in the cabinet.
Yeah, all three of my now long gone, by then decades old, 'freebie' 210s were in retrospect too narrow for the wider frame, but this was in the early '70s, so well before the 15" became NLA.
