"Oh no! Not this topic again! In this week's Time Magazine there is an article stating that DV is dying. Alvy Singer, a major film director from Israel is predicting the reemergence of super 8 film. At Rabinowitz Cine Company in Tel Aviv, an inexpensive super 8 sound camera is being manufactured. They are also bringing back super 8 sound film. Market testing will begin next March."
From a post over on Indieclub.com
Anyone have any more info on this new camera?

Where exactly in Indieclub.com did you see this information? On their message board?

Yup, on the message board.
Its an independent filmmakers website.

Sorry,
Its in the thread titled, "DIGITAL WILL (ALMOST) KILL YOU!(Warning digital m"
posted by Kevin Malin near the bottom...

Now THIS IS some news! Maybe there is some hope that other people besides us hyper-enthusiasts will get their hands on a REAL movie camera and have some fun. I swear, there has been nothing more fascinating to me than watching my friend's "neighborhood" movies made in the backyard...all made by kids under 16 (with sound film, of course). Maybe the sound quality wasn't worth writing home about, but hey, it was COOL.
Thanx-Chris

Actually, I always found the sound quality to be fine for voice. I really think that re-establishing super 8 sound film could re-vitalize the super 8 production market. And you're right. It was damn fun to shoot.

I tried to find the new Time Magazine issue, but all I found was some Time special on the attack, with nothing else in it.
I hope it's true, because having two companies making S8 cameras would be great.
We should find out if this is for real, and if so, send in a petition with some of our suggestions for the perfect Super 8 camera, like we had on an earlier post.
Let's look into this, OK?
------------------

I just typed in "Rabinowitz Cine" in 4 search engines, and nothing turned up info on this company, so if they're doing this, they haven't mentioned it on the web.
Hmmmm... did the guy in Time magazine leave his email address like some crazy jounalists are doing these days?

I couldn't find the article either.
I've e-mailed the guy who posted the info on the other forum, asking him for the page number and issue number of the magazine.
Seems like there are plenty of people here who would manufacture a new camera if they had the money to do so.
Peace,
M

This would be supreme news in a very dreary week. A new Super 8 camera would awesome. And hearing that someone is touting the professional applications for Super 8 is too dreamy.
But lets not forget our prime mission of rooting out every super 8 camera in every attik, and get them into the hands of young filmmakers for truly independent filmmaking and not just Indiewood.

"You guys, my post was not to be taken seriously. Alvy Singer is the name of
the character that Woody Allen played on Annie Hall."
Sorry, turns out it was just a joke that I didn't get.

I kept thinking, "where have I heard 'Alvy Singer'" before?
Gee, someone has too much time on their hands.
------------------

It figures.
Besides, it would be stupid to make a sound camera anyway, since there isn't any sound film...
I thought it was fishy, because in the search engines, "Rabinowitz" and "Super 8" brings up some New York artist who uses Super 8 footage in his artwork somehow.
Oh well...
We'll just have to put up with these Canons, Nizo's, Bauer's, and Beauliue's....

On my God, I just rented Annie Hall yesterday and still didn't get the joke. But that's kind of a shitty joke to play on us anyhow!

In the future I will try not to propigate crazy rumors from other boards.

Yes, there are plenty here to propogate.
