I happen to have all issues from 1980 and 1981 (August of 1981 was the last issue before they changed there name to Moving Images and focus to video) except for the last issue is 1980 and the first issue of 1981. Does anyone have these issues?
I'm planning on taking the 12 issues I have, scanning some of the pages, and putting them online for people to see. Is this something people would be interested in, or an I just wasting my time?

In order to finish my endschool thesis ,I'm hardly looking for the more informations on cameras , lenses ( of Beaulieu & Nizo cameras ) & film :
lenses : chromacity ,separation power (resolution) ,vignetification ,ect...
Camera : noise ,frame steadiness ,ect..
film : resolution ,kodachrome curves ,ect...
In old Substandart french magazines ,I did found nothing like thing (only little tricks) .Beaulieu did said me they didn't have made tests on their cameras or lens .
Did you saw any of those informations on Super8filmmaking magazines ?

Justin,
I think that's a great idea. The UCLA library has several bound volumes of issues. I xeroxed quite a few and thought about scanning some and putting them on the web but since you have the complete issues you should do it. I wonder if there would be copyright probs -- probably not since they are out of business, right?

Yeah, good idea.
I have a few issues myself, and there's always something interesting in each one, if not really clever and useful, like the issue on how to do explosions that's in one of mine!
They would never publish that kind of stuff these days!
Really useful stuff though, for filmmakers to know.

Make PDF files of them.

Hey all, well I don't have space enough to make PDF files of all of them, but I thought I would try to intergrate specific articles into my website. And since I don't know what articles people would like to read, I guess I'll have to leave the decision up to me. Anyway the scanning, optical character recognition, spell cheaking, and translating into HTML is taking forever.
Until I have intergrated the pages, you can access them here: http://www.super8mm.org/html/super8f..._magazine.html
Right now I only have Vol8 Num 1 and 2. I hope to have all of Vol 8 and Vol 9 if someone can get me the two missing magazines. I hope some of this is what people are looking for. I saw some interstsing things on making Barney's, Blimps, Optical Printer, and things like that. Much of it's hidden inside articles. You will actually have to read to find what you want. I'll add a search function to the website in due time.
Please let me know if you want to see more of these articles or if I'm just wasting my time!

Sorry . I should have noticed that. By the way , I 'm working on a web site in Chinese "introducing" super 8 to people here of my age. I would like to thank you everyone here for sharing all their valuable thoughts and experience. Thank you very much !

Hey, Konton. Big thank-you for the super8magazine stuff. The cold-conditions article really helps me alot. I can't wait to see the rest.
To the rest of you, I've lurked in this forum for quite some time. Your devotion to super8 and spreading the knowledge is one of the things that makes the format so much fun to shoot in.

Issues 3 and 4 have been added. I'm going to stop for a while until I can modify my site to intergrate these pages. Anyway I hope some of this is useful. The next addition will have the 1980's sound camera buyer's guide. Anyway the link again is: http://www.super8mm.org/html/super8f..._magazine.html

Do you have the May issue that shows how to modify a projector for a 1/F pulse output? I forgot which year, either 80 or 81. My library has tons of issues from 74,75,78, and 79, 80, and 81, except for the issue I asked about above. I actually "borrowed" them over the summer and read them all twice through. If your dying for a specific issue, I could probably get the articles and photocopy them in library.
I was actually wondering if people would be interested in photocopied "tools and tricks" sections from each issue to be made into little books for say $5. Maybe they could benefit a lot of people.

Great idea. I'd pay for a good photocopy.

That would be nice. It would be nicer if we had a PDF library of every issue online for anyone to read, but as I recall the library doesn't allow you to removed the magazines.
I plan to put the important articles of 1980 (Volume 8) and 1981 (Volume 9) online as part of the website. I think other artciles of importance which I can get my hands on (Like that modify a projector for a 1/F pulse output or build the 1khz generator from a morse code kit at radio shack) will be added as I find them.
Will someone bring that photocopies they have to the next Super8mm Meeting!!!

A small digital still camera (1.3MP) could be used in the library with available light and a small tripod to copy pages. Those files could go right into your web and would be much better than photocopies.
I have a couple stacks of old S8 magazines, don't have access now as they are in a storrage place while work on the studio progresses.
I'd be interested in How To articles on 3d filming. I have one that seems possible to make using red and green filters, mirrors etc..
If you contact me in May when I move back in, I will copy them and send them to you.

Well getting the images is no problem. My library has a photo copy center right inside. Also, not to burn the future of Super 8 at my library or anything (even though the last time a Super 8 Filmmaker was checked out was back in 89') You can just tear the tools and tricks sections out because they have perforations down the side. I do believe in preserving the material for future filmmakers though, so I don't think I will do that. I am just wondering other than tools and tricks, what people are interested in from the magazines. Justin, when will the 1/F pulse mod be up on your site?
------------------
-
I now have Vol 8, Number 1-7 on the website. I'm stopping here until I can get Num 7 of Vol 8 and Number 1 or Vol 9.
One of the articles I put online states:
> You can also make a cable and pulse generator from a Morse code
> oscillator from Radio Shack) or even from a battery (Vol. 4, No. 3/1976).
So I'll put the pulse mod on the website just as soon as I get Vol 4 Num 3 of the Super8Filmaker magazine.
