ok this may be a stupid question but say ive made my movie, its great and perfect and completely finished.
now what i do ?
assuming its made very amaturly there probebly isnt that much to do with it but still... how do i actually get to show it to a audiance, or is it a case of most movies are `made simply for fun`
i assume theres a lot of filmakers - being a filmakes forum and all - reading this so tell me what have happened to your films
-
Send it out to festivals.
-
Before you send it off to festivals, and waste your hard earned money get some reactions... show it to friends, and family. Show it to whoever you can! Ask them what they think... and how it can be improved, etc. That's unless you are as artistic as Foster who is just so great, and everything he does is just perfect.... FIGHT ME BITCH! (joke).
-
that's the clever part. What to do when you have your film completed.... if it's crap, remake it or another one, but if it's bloody good then do show it to everyone you can find and get the local news to help promote it. Send it to an agent, and as many producers you can.... I dunno.. good question this.. most films never get seen, let alone distributed.
-
so there are no success stories ou tthere, not even vaugly successfull. so basically festivals are the the only way to get it shown.
-
hmmm, good point. This is a film makers forum, but no success stories.
Does that damn you to the realm of the obscure and the unknown?????
God if you have made something put on your own festival! Rent out a town hall or cinema and sell tickets yourself!
Find a local dodgy fleapit /art house cinema and ask them to show it.
Strewth.
-
depends on what you measure as a succesful film to whether there are any success storys out there
-
Personally I'm looking forward to the day when anyone can stick a server up on the web and stream their content ... just need to get DSL in my area then I'm there!
Then a few well placed press releases and your internet content has cult status and, dare I say it, selling potential.
So you start burning VCD, then DVD when that gets affordable, taking care of your own distribution from orders on your website.
Then suddenly people realise that your films are actually quite good, and do you want to direct this feature... or how about this advertising campaign, it will pay for your mortgage...
And then, when they realise that there's a market in hosting other ppl's content, the new film distributors are born...
Suddenly the very people who are slagging off the industry on this board *are* the industry. Are we gonna let any outsiders in?
I guess we'll have to wait and see how all this pans out...
-
Send it to Blockbuster, win $100,000, and get a production deal. If that doesn't work, send it to ICM in Beverly hills, get an agent, and let the agent get you a production deal in Hollywood. If that doesn't work, send it to Ifilm, get it screened by millions, get a production deal. If that doesn't work, sell it to a foreign market that speaks English, get a couple $thou, and get a production deal with a foreign company. If that doesn't work, then try and try again and get a production deal.
-
missed out re-shoot with Naked women in and send it ot he adult market and then get a deal with them
-
come on guys, i got a lot of advice on how to show the movie but i want to hear some stories of your films, how successfull have your best been...and by successfull i mean, whatever you personally consider successfull to be which is probebly diffrent for each person.
personally i d consider a successfull movie that everyone loves because it is just damn fine story and well made, compared to something that just brings in money because its got a damn fine beutifull blonde and lots of badly made sex.

We made a short black and white super8 film, and showed it at a fancy dress halloween party in the cellar of a pub.
It went down a storm and I ended up showing it 3 times.
Man was I a happy man that night.
That was a success in my terms, although I doubt it will make 50p on the video market....
-
people liking it counts as a success, did you only show it at the party ? if it was so populer ?
-
It has since been polished up and entered into A film festival in Bristol, thanks for asking.
Fingers crossed and they might show it....
-
good luck, again .. out of intrest, have you got a website or could you tell me more about the film.
not being nosy but im intrested to see other peoples attempts at amataur movies, not being sure wether amauter is the right word but people seem to class big budget movies as proffessional, so that would mean classing low budget as amataur ?
and that goes the same to others movies people on the board have made.
im goin to get a load of rodriguez stuff n all to see his attempt, i cant remember the name, el something. ( no one mention his name again before a argument breaks out )

Its the start of a shining new talent (-ahem)
-
are you in the UK?
then send it to Total Film magazine, they try to help all budding film makers (no matter how long your films is)
even if your not in the UK... still send it to Total Film - they'll give it a fair rating... plus it goes out to the no-internet users
I'd post the address... but I don't have it with me
do a Google search for Total Film / Future Publishing - or something like that!
>>>
also if its less than 40mins - send it to Atom Films!
Basically as everyone else says - get it out there - get it seen - just fecking do it!
-
hey chance1234 i quite like the script, i love that sereal style stuff ! the bit where the blood starts pouring out of her mouth after she kissed him is a great touch (is there meant to be something symbolic about that ?)
did you design it to not make sense.

After 10 years of owning a Camcorder and subscribing to two camcorder magazines, I have recently produced my first video. It was the 50th year anniversary of my local Lawn Bowling Club. I had been filming the members on and off for the past 10 years so I had quite a lot of archive material, including a few members whom, sadly are no longer with us.
One lady member had some excellent 16-mm colour cline footage taken fifty years ago at the opening of the green, which of course contained scenes of many the founder members.
The Bowling Club also held an open day to mark the occasion to which they invited former members and members from other local clubs to attend, I of course filmed the proceedings.
They played a game of bowls in the afternoon and in the evening they went for a meal with after dinner speeches.
With a fine mix of new and old footage and some interesting editing (I had lots of contrasting shots which fitted neatly together using a DC30+ and premiere 4.2) I along with popular I record using local artists I managed to produced a creative and moving video which has been very well received.
My 10 years of continual learning has went into this production, this includes all the different types of camera shots, to numerous to mention and I did not make the mistake of forgetting about the sound track.
I have already mentioned the music and the speeches, but along with these I also used sound effects, dialogue from celebrations and dialogue from previously recorded bowling matches. This dialogue was so funny, the viewer missed most of the next few clips trying to control their laughter, thus creating a need to watch the video several times in order to cover the whole video.
As most people have only ever seen two types of videos, namely the made in Hollywood type or the bog standard wedding video, it has come as a bit of a shock to everyone (my victims) to see something which they are starring in, which if I may be so bold, is so well produced.
The video is sell well and all the members have bought a copy with many other sales coming through word of mouth. The local newspapers have ran editorial reviews and this has brought further sales.
From a personnel point of view I feel I can now call myself a video producer, and although it has not yet made me rich have obtained a great deal of personal satisfaction.
The only advice I can give a budding video producer is NEVER give up, keep going, it is worth it in the end.
THE END.

what can i say but ... sweeeeeeeet
one critisism is that you houldnt use pentagrams because they are the symbol of the wicca religion which is peaceloving, i sujjest something more along the lines of a upside down cross or to make up a new symbol like blair witch did, ive always thought this looks more freaky anyway.
plus any persons who are wiccans may get offended ( points at himself )
if you do have to use the pentacle make sure its point downwoulds as satanists converted the pentagram to this for there twisted beleifs and the wiccan communtity can dissmiss this.
-
well you learn something new everyday, ill try not to offend the wicca community
wait a sec how the hell do you know if its pointing up or down ?
