African Music

Hi Guys,

My friend and great great musician (bass, guitar and vocal) ?tienne Mbapp? with who I did some gig with Joe Zawinul and we have a band name Chic Hot has his first record out !!!

He come from Cameroon and if somebody heard about the great african-jazz band name Ultramarine (with the awesome Mokhtar Samba on drums), he was on the bass with them.

So his record is named Misiya ("Cries"), I play all the tracks (with drums).

Well, I let a song that I find not too bad.

I love the music.
when I listened first, at 1.15, I didn't noticed the change and it was a big surprise,
to listen to it, because I heard it with my feeling from the beginning.
I love in general music from africa, a lot of them are from mali.
It must be a good countrey for musicians.
oumou sangare for example.
it's not pop music, but I didn't found too much pop music here.
I only know youssouf n'dour, salif keita and a few some others, I forgot the names.
thank you for your advice with ultramarine.
I hope, I can get them here.

I saw Etienne with Zawinul last year and he is absolutely incredible. I don't know if that night was special or what!, but he's one of the best bass players that I've heard.

Really cool music and drumming. Great job! Lots of changes in the music and I really dug the afro-cuban groove. Very funky stuff.

You Guys are great, you know how sensible can be the musicians (because you are...) so thank you very much for your good and positive vibes.

But I can be saw mainly in Paris and in Europe, but I haven't played in UK for all my life, I just go there for seeing rugby game !!!

I think that you can find ?tienne's record almost everywhere, on the web too, but for Chic Hot, the cd will be not released until we record another album so...

Thank you to you all for loving the stuff that I sent on the best drum forum ever, you guys are so sweet.

So I will be in LA for playing with Joe.

About James Taylor, my point is that if the drums chair has a name, the name of this chair is Carlos Vega, not Steve Gadd.
But for me the best show that I saw and that I heard with James Taylor, the drummer was Steve Jordan.

But with all this great drummers (Harvey Mason, Gadd, Jordan, Erskine, Vega...) playing, nothing can be wrong with the music so, it's just my taste.
