There are pests you can destroy by using pesticides. There are pests you can get rid of by weeding them out. But there are some pests you can get rid of by just neglecting them. Talk to them and they will grow stronger; destroy them and they will become heroes. Ignore them and they die.

i agree with vector. to get rid of a pest, i think it would be best to just let them post all they can, but never give a response to them. deleting their posts is still giving them attention. just skip over anything they say as if it doesn't exist, and continue the conversation you were having.

It does remind me of my way of dealing with cleaning up. Ignoring the problem long enough till either A) it's solved by itself or B) i _have_ to solve it which i do at that point.

If this post gets deleted, I will totally understand. I am about to bring up a topic which is (should be) long dead.
I must say... the forum... on that other board... where the "friends" of GP flew off to... A particular man/woman has posted the most ridiculous post I have ever seen in my entire life. I am absolutely beside myself. It is the long post on page 2 of "Death to Philosophy by Painting".
I am just astonished - and speechless. I can not believe the audacity of this man/woman. After reading it, I truly believe (from what little I know of what blew up around here on the other GP forum) that this man/woman was the focus point, driving force and instigator of whatever disrespect that happened around here. I am completely astonished.

No, DA, your post will not be deleted. No one may delete any posts here, that is, no one else but the one who originally posted it.
The only case that someone has his/her own posts deleted is when, after a considerable amount of warnings (and threats, if necessary), he/she insists on insulting people. And who does so? Everyone that the majority here have this impression for. Tyranny of the public, you might say. The spirit of ancient democracy, I would correct.

I don't see why you see fit to respond so near hysterically to my request that some one offer some substance to their criticisms of another person. Isn't that what moral and intellectual decency is about - being a person of substance?
You seem to be trying to tell me what I should and should not take an interest in. That seems a bit "off" to me. I am simply disturbed by someone being critical without substance (i.e. reason).

i have no problem with you. in fact, i think that if you want to question (what it was you questioned), that is fine.
secondly, i wasn't being hysterical.
i have always thought that communicating online was difficult because of the lack of tonal quality and body language.
i will not nor am i attempting to defend anything or anyone...well, other than the fact that i can type one thing and someone else may read it another.
i think we can all agree to that.
you wanting clarification to what someone wrote is indeed just, in my opinion.
i have always appreciated your posts because i do not read them as threatening. perhaps it is because i (as i mentioned before) cannot judge your context or your mood.
if we were to look at the quote, i am sure that we can all think of ten different ways that quote could have been said. the same applies to all posts.
i simply do not hear your posts as being condecending so i do not respond as such. if you or anyone else sees what i write as being that way, i cannot control that.
