I once heard that in a 5-D world *unfathomable I realize* that time was a tangible object. Sitting and thinking about this, I came to question, if time was a tangible object, then the intangible time must no longer exhist, so is time then frozen? but, well, it wouldn't be because it's tangible, and can be what you want so... has anyone heard of this? or am I alone? If so, what are your thoughts on it?
------------------
-
I'm speaking in sense of a 5 dimensional world, where time is a tangible object. You can touch, see, feel, bend time. So then, how would they measure days? I'm mearly curiuos to learn more on this topic, and to see if anyone has heard of this... perhaps to enlighten as well as question...
------------------
-
Time is a wheel in constant motion always
rolling us along. Tell me, Mr. Lecter, who wants to look back on their years and wonder where those years have gone.
I hope you dance.
------------------
-
Here is my thoughts on time. You gotta feel the flow, feel it, it's circular. Its like a carousel. You pay the quarter, you get on the horse, and you go up and down and around...in a circular circle with the music, the flow, all good things.
------------------
-
ok...first, ignore those two above me.
second, i may be an idiot here, but i think i will try to make sense of this question.

first, 5-D is 'unfathomable'.

then if we could rationalize tangible time, real time (as we know it) would not exist.

time is frozen (i assume you are referring to the tangible time above)
ok...........how can i say this????
time is a man-made creation to measure........well........time (aging, beginnings, etc).
regardless if there was a tangible time, the superficial measuring of time still is in effect. how would you determine if you could 'bend time' without measuring it?[/list]
i think the argument makes no sense.
lets play with this senario a bit--we will substitue essential words to see how the senario works.
assume that tomorrow is 5-D and today is 3-D. tomorrow 'god' becomes tangible. today he is not.
tomorrow we can touch and see and hear god. today he is as vaporous as the air. tomorrow will god no longer be omnipresent?
(i basically agree with thread killa)

btw--hannibal, i like your poetry.

btw, on the 5-dimensions, they're quite fathomable, as long as you use fuzzy thinking (like thinking of a square circle, you cannot 'see' it before you, but you can think of it as an abstract thing)
The whole idea of a 'tangible' time is because people compare time with a dimension, as space, but even if you were able to travel into a higher spatial dimension, it wouldn't be time, because it is a spatial dimension, and not the one of time, in which you cannot go because it is no space :P
------------------
Sure the universe is a great place, but if it wasn't here, no-one would miss it.
-
Even if you were to travel back in time it would still move forward. The past is simply that which has happened and the future is that which has yet to happen. In order for this not to be the case not only must things stop happening but things must never have happened, and therefore there's nothing to stop... I'm getting dangerously close to babbling now.

I GET IT!! *nods happily, now able to mount a rather intelligent sounding argument against his friends and their arguments about time and dimensions* you guys rock!
*nods again*
I like this board!
btw, thank you *blush*
anyone on here have ICQ, AOL, or MSN?
------------------

No dear Zela, you cannot think of a square circle as an abstract thing. Sorry to say, but it is true. You can't think of anything without having a representation of it in your brain.
Does this sound frustrating? http://www.hostboard.com/ubb/eek.gif

i remeber the conversation of the square circle on another forum...
actually, it wasn't a conversation at all.
come to think of it...it was really a bunch of guys (?) arguing their positions and refusing to budge on them.
now everytime i hear that argument, i think back to those guys.
damned, i hate having a psychological complex.
--------------------------------------------
speaking of ICQ, AOL or MSN...
i do not attend either one of these........er.......'functions'.
but i am thinking that others here do.
p.s.-- since so many of you know already, i think i should tell the rest...
I HATE MSN!
anyway, its strickly yahooooooooo for me.
unless someone can tell me which is the (absolute) best of the best.
come to think of it, i really wanna know the answer to that.

*raises hand* an avid icq user here too.
it' almost always on (aaah, fixed price for water, gas, electricity AND internet connection are great).
and i use Yahoo cos i know some people on that http://www.hostboard.com/ubb/wink.gif
i have to say that the yahoo chat community is nice, something that i haven't seen in icq yet.

Here are my feelings on Time:
Personally I applaud TIME. They always seem to keep their information fresh with new articles and interviews. They cover all facets of society from Arts and Entertainment to Health and Education. It is really a good piece of work that I feel you cannot go wrong with. Heck, if you subscribe now you can get 4 trial issues for free! If you decide to subscribe you will get the next 24 issues for 24.95!
Thats a 77% saving over the cover price!!!

But there still instantly outdated, that's why magazines will always get their heads handed to them by tv and even newspapers. Magazines will soon be a thing of the past, especially the older issues.
------------------

Ticking away the moments that make up a dull day,
you fritter and waste the hours in an off-hand way.
Kicking around on a piece of ground in your hometown,
waiting of someone or something to show you the way.
Ever year is getting shorter,
never seem to find the time -
plans that either come to naught
or half a page of scribbled lines.
And then one day you find
ten years have got behind you -
no one told you when to run;
you missed the starting gun.
And you run and you run, to catch up with the sun, but it's sinking,
racing around to come up behind you again.
The sun is the same in a relative way, but you're older,
shorter of breath and one day closer to death.
Tired of lying in the sunshine,
staying home to watch the rain;
you are young and life is long,
there is time to kill today.
Hanging on in quiet desperation
is the English way;
the time is gone, the song is over -
thought I'd something more to say...
(I know I could copy-paste it, but I really enjoyed typing it. I'm wasting my time you might say. If so, this song is given a great credit.)

This is that string theory, isn't it?
My own theory is.....
If all things exist as a DNA pattern, then Time is nothing more than DNA momentarily "decrypted" by passing a searchlight over it, the portion of the "DNA" made visible by the searchlight is the present. Once the searchlight moves on, (or is it the DNA simply moving like a conveyor belt beneath the light?) the present becomes the past....if the conveyor belt is a true loop, everything eventually repeats.
Do not believe a word I have just posted.

soo..basically determinism in the way that every _moment_ is determined at 'decoding' instead of just using the begin state to calculate the current one?

Somehow, we have pre-determined free will.
Just don't ask me how.
------------------
-Alex
-
that one i do understand.
it's like this: even though you can say what decision someone will take, that does not change that it still is that person's decision.
it's HIS decision, even if you can say what it will be.
If i tell someone that the left way will lead to the place he has to go to, and the right way doesn't, then i can predict with a certain reliability that he will go left.
but the choice to go left was still his.
hmm, this quickly became a mess.
let's see. In a nutshell: even though you can predict a choice, it still is a choice and not just a game you play to fit in with the prediction.

Reality is based on perception, and we all percieve that we have free will (through the act of decision making), so what's the point of saying otherwise?

Although the Heisenberg Random Principle must be considered.

Pi is something that's random! but it occurs daily in our lives!

As miserable as life may be I hold it pretty precious...
If I lose the light of the sun, I will write by candlelight, moonlight, no light. If I lose paper and ink, I wil write in blood on forgotten walls. I will write always, I will capture nights all over the world and bring them to you.

How can you not percieve that you have free will? Who do you percieve is making your decisions for you, then?
-
i'm not sure how to go about answering all of these in one post...much less, in one thread.
alex-- describe the principle. everyone must
be mindful that not all know what you
may know.
hannibal-- PI is not random. nothing is
random (in that sense?!?!).
kilz-- no one is making any decisions.
