A place to hang out, chat, and get into (and if we are lucky) out of trouble. Come on in, sit down, and have a drink.
I am hoping that with a new place to hang out and goof off we can do some more socializing and keep in otuch. I did not start a new incarnation of the PATD because I think that the PATD has so much history that it is hard for us to move past Sci Fi Sites and into the new internet reality we have.
I want to keep in touch with people. That has become harder with people spread all over the net and without a common interest, like B5, to discuss. I don't like feeling like I have nothing in common with my internet buds just because Sci Fi went away.
In an effort to try and keep old relationships alive and maybe meet some new folks, I have started Da Bar.
I would prefer if we all start from scratch in here. Try not to bring too many long running jokes, gags, and plot lines. Lets see what we can develop that is uniquely ours at Host Board.
Prof Crash had been wandering cyberspace for a long, long time. She had been in search of a place to hang out and chill. On 4/2/02, she came across a clearing with a single building. Looking around she saw no people, highways, alien beings, or anything to indicate that a building should be here.
Tired of wandering and missing old friends, PC decided to check out this building. She walked to the door and knocked. There was no answer. She tried the doorbell. Nothing. Shrugging her shoulders, PC decided to see if the door was unlocked. It was.
Slowly she opened the door. She poked her head in "Hello?"
"What are you waiting for, come on in." a voice called.
In for a penny... PC thought. She entered the building and was shocked to find a fully established bar.
"I hope I am not intruding. I was wandering down the road and saw this place, thought I would check it out. My name is ProfCrash."
A strange looking creature smiled, at least PC thought it was a smile. "Welcome to Da Bar. What will you have to drink?"
Remembering her recent visit to New Orleans and deciding she was thirsty PC smiled "A Hurricane please."
From a dark corner of the bar, Ian managed to look up for long enough to think "That voice sounds familiar.."
Then falls off the bar stool with a loud thud.
Baze hesitantly pulled the strange building's door open and edged inside, hand on the blaster holstered at her side. Slowly, her eyes adjusted to the semi-darkness, revealing a... bar? The barman looked up.
"Welcome to Da Bar." He said, then went back to what looked like a crossword. "Check your weapons with the troll." He added matter-of-factly.
Baze handed her blaster to the hulking bouncer lurking behind the door, and headed over to the counter.
"What do you serve here?"
"Anything you like," the barman replied, without looking up.
Baze grinned. "In that case, I suppose a pint of Old Speckled Hen wouldn't be out of the question, would it?"
The barman produced a pint of frothing bitter from beneath the bar and smiled briefly as he set it down on the counter. "Enjoy."
Taking a long pull on the beer, Baze turned to survey the room. Surely that couldn't be...
"Ian? PC? What are you doing here?"
This looks like an interesting place.Wizz walks in, waits for his eyes to adjust...then removes the dark sunglasses. Ah, much better. There's a bar, a disinterested bar tender, PC, Ian, and Baze hanging out. Figuring a margarita would be just the thing...Can I have a large margarita? And, do you use white or gold tequilla?. "You want it blended or on the rocks? And, I use white tequilla...got the recipe from a guy named Carlos". Blended please...and if it's Carlos' recipe, it's gonna be good. Yup, this is going to be an interesting place. Hi, y'all, how's life been treating you?
Hearing a familiar voice, PC nearly drops her drink. "Ian how long have you been here?" Then again I am not surprised that he found this place before everyone else.
She slides onto the barstool next to Ian. Just as she is preparing to pepper him with questions, the door opens.
"My god! Bazeland?" Bazeland hands off her blaster to the troll and orders her drinks before she spots PC and Ian. Just as the trio are getting settled, Wizz and Azziz walk in.
PC starts to giggle "Why wouldn't I expect to find you guys here? I think there is something about bars and this group."
PC stands up and hugs everyone. "So what has everyone been up to?"
The barkeep was pleased with the new crowd showing up, and wanted to see that they were well taken care of. So he yelled for the server: "Hey, boy! Get out here!" He rumbled.
Merle came bobbing out of a back room, wiping his hands on his (now) grubby apron. "Yes, Master? How may I serve you?"
Barkeep pointed toward the table where PC, Baze, Ian, AsIs, and Wizz were sitting. "Go take care of those people, boy. And don't screw it up!"
Merle bowed his way away from Barkeep, and with a grin on his face approached the table. "So, can I get refills for anyone? Nachos? Potato skins?"
The group stared at Merle, mouths hanging open.
"What, have I got broccoli in my teeth or something?"

Following the breadcrumbs, AsIs finds her way into da bar. Seeing her friends at the table she pulls up a chair and puts in her order, "Anything but COFFEE!"
Merle eyed PC. "My name's Merle, of course, Crash. You know that. I'm from Ohio. And I see you've been studying from the Dan Quayle book of spelling again."
Turning to everyone else, a surly look on his face, Merle asked, "anyone else want anything?" He turned away without waiting for a response.
"Boy! That's no way to treat our customers! You watch that tongue of yours, or I'll be yankin' it outta ya! Now, go get 'em all a round. On you."
Merle cringed, "Yes Master, anything you say, Master. I thank you so much for not beating me for my insolence!"
Merle scurried back into the kitchen.
Nomad Galileo had been out in the woods playing cards with Some elves and some Ents. He was winning and being accused of cheating. No matter how much Nommy protested, the Elves would not believe him and the Ent took his side.
Basically, the Ent picked up Nomad and threw him out of the woods. He flew very far and landed smack dab into the door of a building sittingin the middle of nowhere. The door gave way to his momentum and the next thing he knew he was looking up into the face of a Troll.
Please check any weapons at the door!
Nomad simply sniffed and realized he was in a drinking establishment....."NO Weapons here, friend." He then stood up and bumped into a table of guests. "OH..excuse m...." but he didnt get the words out. Recognition was on his face... No Way! What are all you folks doing here in the middle of nowhere? Well, nevermind...as a certain centauri says...the Universe is a strange place...you never know what hand it will deal you."
With that...Nomad sat down with friends...he orders a Sammy ( Sorry, cant breeak that tradition) and catches up with old friends.
Coming out of an unfamiliar void with no people, highways, alien beings, or anything else visible, I walked head first into a building that wasn't there a moment before. I enter.
Getting past the troll by handing over my blaster, but keeping my slingshot concealed in my cloak, I wander over to a group of familiar & friendly people and greet everyone.
A quick look over the menu, I place my order for a black draft & settle back to watch the clientele.
Initially PC was shocked by what she saw. Merle as a bus boy? Well stranger things have happened.
PC grinned "Potatoe skins sound really good."
What the heck lets have some fun
"Whats your name and where are you from?"

Sindatur and Blare are flying around looking for a place to go and hang out, since none of the PATDs seem to be open anymore and all of a sudden a window (a closed one I might add) jumps up in front of Sindatur and *wham*, Sindatur sinks to the ground.
Blare rushes to Sindatur's side and pulls out smelling salts. Sindatur jumps up, and sees little birds flying all around his head.
"Hey, I hear some party sounding sounds coming from in here, let's go in."
The pair of lovebirds (well, actually they're Owls in Love, but you get the picture) enters the dank establishment to be greeted by a big ugly fiercesome troll.
"Weapons please"
Sindatur gets into a snit, "I haven't got any weapons, I don't believe in carrying weapons,..."
The troll covers it's ears and waves the pair in.
Blare looks around and says, "Sin, honey, aren't those your friends over there dear?"
Sindatur walks right up and greets all his friends. "Hi PC, Nommy, Baze, Ian, AsIs, and Wizz. Oh and look, over there by the coatrack, it's that nice Jasoom.
Then the waiter walks up, and, "Hey Merle, great to see ya. Lawyerin' work gettin' hard to find these days? I'll take a Tom Collins Tall, and my sweetheart here will have a Heineken."
After catching up on some old times, Nomad decides to show da gang a little trick that was taught to him by the Ents.
Nomad waves his hands over the wooden table and there, out of a knot in the table, grew a small branch that sprouted some leaves then some blossoms.
"Hmmm...Must be cherry wood."
Baze stared after the retreating figure of the now-fawning Merle.
"Hey, Merle! That'll be another pint for me, and whatever you want for yourself, too."
She cocked an eyebrow at the barman. "He is allowed to drink on duty, isn't he?"
When Merle arrived with the trayful of drinks, Baze leaned over. "So, how did you end up here?"
Rantarn enters the bar and is confronted by a rather ugly looking troll demanding that all weapons be checked.
"Weapons, weapons.....oh yeah, hang on a sec."
Rantarn hands over a shining broadsword with platinum pommel, a flintlock pistol, a pulse cannon, a hand grenade, three throwing stars, a blowgun complete with poison-tipped darts, brass knuckles, a Civil War era carbine, a stilleto, and a battle axe.
"There, I think that's it."
Spying the folks congregating at the table, he speeds over.
"Well hello. Looks like I found the place to be."
OK Mer;le, I give. I thought you were just messing around. Have you found God? The Beer God that is. I guess working at a bar has its quirks.
WHile others were served their drinks, PC wondered where her potato skins where. sheesh Merle is sure slow with the food
"ummm Merle, I ordered potato skins a while back. Any idea when they are coming out? While I'm waiting, I'll have a black and tan please."
She heard Nommy ask Merle what was up and smiled "Who knows Nommy, maybe Merle decided that it was time to live a different life. After a while you get tired of being the same thing. Not to mention, I don't want him changing professions until after I ge tmy potato skins."
Seeing Jasoom and Rantarn PC smiles "Hey guys, long time no see. What type of trouble have you been getting into?"
'Hey Prof, nice to see you' jas says smiling, as he makes a mental note to order some potato skins, soon as he spots Merle. 'Nice to see everyone here!'
'Well, i'm occasionally a bad boy on the Yahoo boards, but only when I'm pounced on first.'
Merle came scurrying out of the kitchen, a steaming plate of loaded potato skins on a platter, along with a round of drinks for everyone.
"Here ya go. Enjoy!"
Merle stood by while the gang dug in. Then he snickered and sauntered back behind the counter.
Crash looked at her skins with a suspicious eye.....
Deciding it would probably be best to not eat the potato skins at the moment, PC shares with the rest what she has been up to over the last year.
“With everyone wandering I decided it would be a good idea to take sometime to myself. I headed for Crossroads. It seemed like a good place to go. I knew the Inn Keeper and some of the residents there so I wouldn’t feel lonely but they would also give me the space that I wanted.
After a few weeks lounging about Dragon’s Inn, I decided it was time to go and see what the universe had in store for me. The first world I encountered was an interesting one, everyone living there was a super hero and spoke in cliches or exlimations. I took off pretty fast, no offense but dodging trucks and listening to people yell “Bam!” every few minutes grew old real fast.
I spent 6 months at the second planet. I have no idea what species inhabited the planet, I never did learn the language, but boy could they cook. “
PC stared off into space, remembering something that sure looked and tasted like chicken risotto, bimbim bop (sp), and ginger chicken.
Well, at LAST! I don't know whether I need coffee or booze. Howzabout a coffee nudge? I thought I was going to go completely grey waiting to post, but agree with PC, it's good to stay in touch with da gang. If I live so long!
HEHE, ERy, the common belief is that they are still setting up the site, and that's why it is still so slow at times. I just open a separate window for Hostboard, tell it to go somewhere, and then go off and do something else in another window while it gets to where it's going.
Sindatur, too changes his mind about ordering Potatoe (oh, look, Dan's been messing with the spell checker again) skins.
Nomad's twigs begin growing, and growing until the ceiling becomes one big hedge.
Oooh boy, I'll have one of what Nommy's having!!
Nommy was becoming loopy and bored. He started flinging little motions at the Wooden beams on the ceiling and making branches and vines sprout out.
"Thayt ought to help keep thwe airt clean in here..hiccup"
Baze ducked as a branch growing from the ceiling came close to taking her head off.
"Nommy! Do you have to do that? It's getting difficult to drink in here!"
She turned desperately to the troll. "No one's handed in a pair of garden shears have they? Someone's gotta get the ceiling under control!"
"Boy!" Bellowed Barkeep.
Merle poked his head out of the kitchen. "Yes, Master?"
"Trim the hedge!" Barkeep pointed to the branches growing out of the beams above Nommy's head.
"Yes, Master." Merle bowed in a subservient way, and disappeared out the back door, returning moments later with a step ladder and a pair of pruning shears. Scampering up the ladder, Merle began hacking madly at the branches, which of course fell on the heads of the patrons below.
A giant hand grabbed Merle by the collar, and yanked him off the ladder. "Boy, I'm gonna flay the hide offa you one o' these days," growled Barkeep. "Now, clean up this mess, and buy these people another round." He stomped back behind the bar, while Merle began picking branches out of potato skins, drinks, hair, and so on. He especially seemed to have a hard time locating a leaf he swore had fallen down the back of Ery's shirt, and spent quite a while fishing for it.....
Baze pulled bits of what looked like elm leaf from her pint and took a cautious sip. "You know, this actually improves it!"
She looked over at PC. "You know, it's been years since I stuck my nose into the Dragon's Inn. Has it changed much? I've been plying my mercenary trade out on the edge of the galaxy, which is all very well, meeting new people and all that, but I missed the folks I met back at Crossroads. That's pretty much why I came back. Oh, and having enough credits to live on for a few years was a plus as well."
"Tell you what, though, I landed on a great world out on the Rim. The whole population was trained in martial arts, and so that was how they conducted their battles. Forget guns, they went in for long sticks, baskets, chairs... whatever was to hand really. And they spoke incredibly fast. I've always thought that was the problem with the Universal Translator- no lip-synch, and the necessity to gabble away in order to get it all in. Top place though. Did wonders for my Ninjitsu."
Nomad looks around at the flourishing walls and ceiling. He smiles at his handy work. See, we dont need those electronic smoke eaters...All we need are these beautiful green air scrubbers.
Nomad downs another pint and orders a pitcher from the Bus Boy.
In the utterly relaxed atmosphere, no one noticed Baze get up surreptitiously from her seat and slip out.
A little later she crept back in, dusting confetti from her hair and smiling. "Yo, Merle! How about another pint?"
Yo, Merle...
Get her a pint of Sierra Nevada Pale ALe. And, bring me one too.
I could do with another pint too please Merle - mine seems to have gone a little flat...
Merle had been dozing on a cot in the back, when Barkeep threw a bucket of water on him. "No sleeping! How many times do I gotta tell you that?"
Merle sprang up, cringing in the corner. "Yes, Master, of course, Master. It's just that things had been so quiet for so many days....."
Barkeep glared. "You have guests. I suggest you tend to them."
Merle loaded a tray with fresh drinks, and took them out to the gang at the table. Then turned to Baze. "OK, what's up?"
*glares at Nommy and Merle*
I just know one of you two did some sort of a time spell. I could swear that stuff happened here in this bar, but damned if I can remember it.
I have this feeling we should be waking up Crash to finish grading papers...
Nomad came out of a Daze and looked around. Something did not feel right and his Key of Light was buzzing. He dadn't seen this in quite some time.
He looked in Asis' direction and got a dirty look. Nomad shrugged and asked Merle for a pitcher of Sammy to get by the next 10 minutes.
"What, me do magic? Heaven forbid!!!"
Merle looked absolutely horrified as he brought a fresh pitcher of Sam Adams to Nomad.
"Now, is there anything I can get for anyone else?"
I get the feeling it's a little late for grading PC's papers.
Never too late for a Sammy though, eh Merle?
YAWN
PC takes a look around the room. Her papers are gone I guess that means I finished them
The gang seems to be a bit dazed. ?mmm what happened?"
Hmmm...Dunno, Prof. I was gazing in this crystal ball, which was kind of cloudy. Then I realized when I looked up that it was still cloudy...everywhere. Wow...
Hey, Merle. How 'bout another Margarita, but please check the tequilla first. I kind of wonder if that bottle you're using doesn't have a different kick to it or sumthin'...
