Hostboard has a few features...
If you click on the face with a question mark, it takes you to that person's profile. In your profile you can put things like email address, likes, webpage url, and you can create a signature statement to attach to your posts.
If you click in the letter icon, you can email that person.
If you click on the pencil and paper you can edit and/or delete your posts. Which helps if you spell like Crash http://www.hostboard.com/ubb/wink.gif (Note: You can't edit or delete others posts. If you want to test it, try to edit one of mine. It looks and feels like you can, but the final screen will tell you that you can't.)
The letter with a arrow let's you respond to a message by quoting it first. It uses UBB code which you can learn more about by clicking link on the left. Html is also turned on.
Also on the left is the smilies legend. You can use them or disable them in your posts by clicking a box at bottom of your post.
You can also select to get a email everytime someone posts in a topic you create, by clicking a box on the bottom.
Junior members become Senior members after 30 or 60 posts, I don't remember which.

Hmmmm...is there a way to reverse the order of viewing the posts from newest to oldest rather than oldest to newest?

Not that I know of CT. At about 100 posts they become unwieldy and we start new topics at the other board I hang out at.
But I will ask and poke around and see if I can alter that, but I doubt it.

Doesn't look like I can change viewing order, but I can change background and links and alternating post colors. So if we want to do different colors, let me know, we can test some out.
If anyone wants to design a logo for us, I can upload a different logo as well.

I think the chopped post thing is a specific browser problem like the webtvers used to have.
Can't remember which browser is affected.
And nope, no chat feature. Most people here use IM or ICQ to chat.

A feature I really like here is that the posts are all available on the same page that one types the reply.

Bmat, no real chance of that right now. What you see is what you get. I can change colors and the logo and that is about it.
Since Hostboard is trying to find a buyer, I don't think they will be adding any features right now. One of the main reasons they are selling is time constraints.

Actually, it would be nice to see who is on, just in ther ZOCOLO. You know, klike they have at the start page.

Yeah it would. If you click the Science Fiction link, it will tell you a list of who is on, but not where they are viewing. But you can see everyone at once. If you recognize the names, chances are they are here, I think I am the only one who spends a lot of time away from this board at STP.

Nommy, if you click on "Science Fiction" you'll get a list of everyone who's on. Or you can click on the "Who's Online" link, and on that page it tells you what board the person is reading.

When topics don't show new posts, two things might be happening. One, you may have a old version in your cache and reload will fix it. The other is that when you make a post in a topic, while it is processing, it moves the topic to the top. So it has the newer timestamp, but the post doesn't appear yet, wait a minute or so and check again, it should be there.

I can change the board colors. When the board colors are changed, they don't change in the topic until someone posts in the topic generally. So if something is a truly hideous color, post, it will probably change http://www.hostboard.com/ubb/wink.gif

LOL, I only wrote down one of the colors. Are both the colors bad? They have looked ok on the computers I use. So hard for me to tell.
And RE: Spammers. I delete spammer topics. If it is someone we don't recognize and not SciFi related it gets the axe. Social topics if they stick around are ok. But not interested in folks that only show up to start they own topics and not participate in our group.
