Well, i finally got the sci Fi Channel and have been sucked in by Farscape. I am afraid that I am a bit lost on the back story. When I came in the hunky astronaut dude was faced with the decision of marrying the Princess or being turned over to Scorpious (sp) and erin was pissed that the hunky astronaut dude was going through with the marriage...
ie, I have been watching for one week.
Can someone give me a bit of background (like what all the names are.....)
Commander John Crichton Hubba hubba
He is a second-generation astronaut came and has a doctorate in Theoretical Sciences. As a scientist/astronaut Crichton lived in the shadow of his famous father Jack Crichton. He was always trying to impress and please his father but never forced to make a name for himself, since he was born into the legacy without even lifting a finger.
On an experimental mission aboard the Farscape One module shot Crichton through a wormhole. This causes him to at last forced to call upon the heroic qualities he'd inherited from Dad but had never needed to use. Crichton's natural leadership and decision-making skills make him an important member of Moya's crew.
The frist episode is about the wormhole.
ATTENTION FARSCAPE FANS! The Farscape Soundtrack is finally available on CD!
I just found the offical Farscape website.
<a href=http://www.farscape.com/>Click here</a>
Thanks Morgana...I'm in the same boat as Crash, having only seen the last two episodes and have no idea about what's going on.
Not another show I have to start watching! http://www.hostboard.com/ubb/rolleyes.gif
I also have a Farscape CD I should probably look at, I guess.

CT, the Farscape website is a good place to start, it has mission logs and character descriptions.
Azziz, yeah its a good show. I am really enjoying it now that I have Sci Fi Channel
Farscape stuff
First thing, the official homesite is actually this one: http://www.scifi.com/farscape/
Farscape
There are summaries of all episodes, Seasons 1-3, if you have the time to read them.
Brief summary: Crichton, astronaut, gets blasted out of earth orbit in the "Farscape" during an experiment that goes wrong. He gets sucked down a wormhole into the middle of a battle in which prisoners aboard the Leviathan ship Moya are trying to escape their Peacekeeper captors. He ends up aboard Moya, with prisoners Dargo, Zhaan, Rygel, and Pilot, as well as with a Peacekeeper pilot, Aeryn, accidently captured during the escape.
Whole first season revolves around these folks trying to cooperate and evade the pursuit of Capt. Crais of the Peacekeepers. Aeryn refuses to cooperate at first, even through the Peacekeepers will execute her for "alien contamination" if she goes back to them. Crichton is considered an over-active monkey until he saves the crew's butts several times.
Important developments. Aeryn and Crichton become attracted to each other. Aeryn begins to reject her Peacekeeper ideology. Crichton begins to experiment with creation of wormholes to get back home. He meets an alien species that embeds wormhole technology in his subconscious. When raiding a Peacekeeper outpost to find medical treatment for Aeryn, he is captured by the character Scorpius. Scorpius tries (unsuccessfully) to extract the wormhole knowledge from Crichton and is now pursuing him to recapture him.
Meanwhile--we find out Dargo married a Peacekeeper woman and had a child with her. Her own brother killed her for marrying an alien; the child was placed in hiding. Dargo is trying to find the boy. He has recently learned the boy was sold into slavery.
Rygel is a deposed dominar of his people and is trying to regain his throne. Zhaan has had a stormy career as priest, including several murders, and is sometime violent. She has also met the builders of the Leviathans and has been appointed Moya's guardian. Aeryn, while a Peacekeeper, was part of a force that murdered Moya's original [female] Pilot and put [current] Pilot in her place. She and Pilot feel guilty about the role they played in eliminating the first Pilot.
New developments: Capt. Crais's original assignment was to impregnate Moya and develop a new offspring--an armed Leviathan subject to Peacekeeper commands. He did not succeed, but Moya accidently became pregnant anyway and has given birth to a gunship. Crais had to flee the Peacekeeper's when Scorpius tried to eliminate him. He has since convinced the new child gunship, Talyn, to accept him as its captain, and has taken off with it.
Chiana also joined the crew. She and her brother were infected by their own people with a sexually transmittable disease intended to wipe-out as many other races as possible. They are now immune to the effects. Her brother has become a resistance fighter. Her people wish to capture both her and her brother.
That brings us up to Season Four. Scorpius continues to pursue Crichton. He has a secret weapon--he has implanted a program in Crichton's mind (ala Bester and Garibaldi). Moya wants to find and recover her offspring Talyn. Dargo wants to find his son. Everyone else basically wants to get to their homeworlds, except Aeryn, who is trying to decide if she should tie her future to Crichton's.
In the "Princess" episodes, we finally meet the Scarrans. The three competing powers in this show are the Peacekeepers (Sebaceans), the Nebari (Chiana's species) and the Scarrans (lizard-like warloads). Scorpius is a half-breed Peacekeeper/Scarran allied to the Peacekeepers. The Nebari appear to be the most powerful, the Scarrans are the most war-like.
I think that's all the basic stuff.

Great synop Iz, thanks! I'll try to give it a go. http://www.hostboard.com/ubb/smile.gif

Iznardy... Thanks! :-)
Now I sure was sent off to the wrong Galaxy. *chuckles*
They have begun showing some Farscape previews on SciFi Channel. For the four weeks in January, the station will air the four-part season finale for last season (much like Babylon 5, SFC can't seem to get its timing right--they always begin a new year by showing us the End of a season). None of these episodes has aired before. It looks like the finale will focus on the fate of Dargo's son. Scopius and Crais both figure in the plot.
iz
When is Farscape on? I just have not been able to find it since it was on every night for one week.
New Farscape episodes will begin airing Fridays at 9 p.m. Eastern starting January 5. SCF will also have a few weekends dedicated to showing old episodes for folks who need to catch up on what happened.
So season 3 is about to end? Typical...I get interested in a show 2-3 years after it begins and have to scramble to catch up! http://www.hostboard.com/ubb/wink.gif
Here in the UK
We are up to episode "Liars, Guns and Money" 2 of 3, as of next Monday.... Can anyone tell me how far behind the US we are?
Heh...don't ask me...I don't even know what episode we are on now. http://www.hostboard.com/ubb/redface.gif
But I DO know someone who can tell you! The Wizard of Iz! http://www.hostboard.com/ubb/wink.gif

Cool Fan Fiction http://www.hostboard.com/ubb/smile.gif
Gang,
I was lurking around that site that Iznbardy had mentioned and found this really good fanfiction area. You should read some:
http://www.scaper.com/fanfiction/index.html
For Cosmic and Ian:
Cosmic, January is the Season Finale of Season #2 and the opening of Season #3. So you actually haven't missed that much. Most of the story arc that matters for current episodes took place in Season Two (introduction of Scorpius, MLee the Boneater, and the Scarrans, Crais taking off with Talyn, revelations about the past of Dargo, Aeryn, and Chianna). The most important storylines from Season One will probably by (1) Crichton's meeting with the wormhole aliens (2) the Nebari's destruction of a Peacekeeper super-star cruiser (3) various, no doubt recurring villains, like Durka, the Peacekeeper leader who captured and tortured Rygel.
Ian--the journey logs on the official page make no mention of any episodes with that title. So I have no idea where you are in the sequence. If it is a three-part episode, I am assuming you are somewhere in "Look at the Princess"--where Crichton is betrothed to an heir of a Peacekeeper out-planet. In that case, you are about seven episodes behind the U.S. schedule.
Or maybe you are ahead of us.
iz
actually, ian's question raises an interesting point. most of the farscape episode titles are meant to be puns on popular sayings or phrases. since many of the puns based on american phrases would not make sense in england, maybe the producers are changing the episode titles depending on where the episode is showing.
iz
Okay, here is the title list for Season 2 so far, as we get them in the UK....
Mind the Baby
Vitas Mortis
Taking the Stone
Crackers don't Matter
The Way We Weren't
Picture if you Will
Home on the Remains
Dream a Little Dream
Out of Their Minds
Look at the Princess Part 1
Look at the Princess Part 2
Look at the Princess Part 3
My Three Crichtons
Beware of Dog
Won't Be Fooled Again
The Locket
The Ugly Truth
A Clockwork Nebari
Liars, Guns and Money Part 1
Liars, Guns and Money Part 2
ooooo, ian, you scum-sucking dog! you're ahead of us! you must be seeing the Season Two finale, Season Three start-up that doesn't start here until January 5th.
so, i can't give you any background on what's going on, because i've only seen the lead-up episodes, the last of which would be clockwork nebari.

I'm really looking forward to the new episodes of Farscape in January. IMO this its the best science fiction show currently being produced. I wish Andromeda were as good. I really tried to like Andromeda, but poor writing, character development, and unexciting acting plague the show.
Dang Ian....Hmmmmmm
I agree Bmat...but they can still save the show if they try
SPOILER ZONE. SPOILERS SPOILERS SPOILERS.
THERE ARE SPOILERS.
SPOILERS HERE.
(not really)
But if you go to the BBC webpage dedicated to Farscape, there ARE spoilers because they have already run the episodes slated for January in the United States (run them and reviewed them).
So if you want to be SPOILED, you can go to:
http://www.bbc.co.uk/cult/farscape//
BBC Farscape Page
The last ep of season 2 was shown over here on Tuesday.
Don't watch it while drunk, or you'll completely lose track of what's going on.... glad I taped the last 3 eps.
PS - Iznardy, I received the Dune tapes today. I'm looking forward to seeing them when I get back to London (VCR here only plays UK format).
Thanks so much :-)
Iz....it is taking considerable will power for me not to look at the spoiler sites you put up. Nothing like placing temptation my way!!
HEY GUYS. THE VINE HAS BEEN DOWN FOREVER AND NOW I AM HAVING TROUBLE GETTING INTO HOSTBOARD (COULDN'T FOR MOST OF YESTERDAY).
So here is a back-up suggestion.
I think we should start using SPECULATIVE VISION as an alternative meeting place. There's nobody there! which is incredible considering what a nice site it is. I've never had any trouble accessing it, it has a scifi newsline, a writers section, a forum for discussion of all sorts of topics (much like VINE), and links to chat rooms (although they are hard to find). No grams, unfortunately, but in other respects not unlike the Classic Vine. The webmaster is very responsive and receptive to suggestions about the pages.
There is already a FARSCAPE topic there under Television Series at the Forum.
So, with both Hostboard and the Vine being somewhat unreliable, I encourage everyone to start visiting and posting at Speculative Vision--that way, we always have an alternative place to meet--and one that appears to be quite reliable.
here's the URL, please bookmark it:

Speculative Vision
See ya here and there--iz
What topic there Iz?
Seems pretty well used to me...
Season finale Friday at 9PM (eastern)!
Don't forget to watch!
<font size="-2">(Pssssssst! Somebody remember to remind me! Yeah, I know, but I've been hanging around a certain MRI too long and I'll forget 10 mins. from now.)</font> http://www.hostboard.com/ubb/wink.gif
Hey Cosmic!
Season finale Friday at 9PM (eastern)!
Don't forget to watch!
<font size="-2">ROTFLOL! Oh brother!</font> http://www.hostboard.com/ubb/rolleyes.gif
Ummm, thanks Ran. Think you can do that again tomorrow?
Getting my recorder ready to go. Tonight's episode is a four parter, right?
So what did everyone think about the first of four eps? Personally I loved it.
Spoliers await the foolish eye.

Always good to see old Scorpy in action though I do have to say I was kind of disappointed the cooling rod didn't blow up in his head. Not that I really thought it would. heh heh.
I am surprised though that the depository's head (forget her name) would have allowed anyone in the control room alone where they can just watch whatever's going on. That didn't seem like a smart thing to me.
Oh and they should have labeled the ep "TV-Gross" for having her lick Scorpy. ewwwwwwwwww.........
Am I right that it is understood that there are spoilers here? If not then don't read on.

I was really puzzled by the group's presence in the room where they could watch the monitors. That didn't make any sense.
I was on the edge of my seat during the rod incidents.
I felt the actors were overly-dramatic. John has done the outraged manic bit far too many times now and it has lost its impact.
As I said earlier, I wish they hadn't separated the season like they did. I've lost my empathy with the characters. Maybe if I'd still been involved with the show I would have enjoyed the episode more.
Hey, let's face it, there's only ONE black scorpian and that Scorpius.
I'm looking forward to next weeks episode--the crew, now wealthy, can afford to enlist some mercenaries (hey, why should the PKs and the Scarrans have all the fun), and are picking up help from many of the alien types we have seen in the past. Gonna be all out war against Scorpius, I guess.
Hoo! rah.

BMat...I can agree with you only a little as to Johns Maniac attitude (or was that manic?) being over done. It always appeared to me that is how he tries to overcome the Scorpi chip in his head. Through his own brand of Earth/U.S. humor. I cant get enough of it.
As to the rest, didn't they set something up to get the security forces looking elsewhere while they utilized the control room. Hmm...I didn't tape it so I cant scrutinize the whole thing.
As for Scorpi getting licked...ROTF...Just the look on Scorpis little devient face was enough.
YEah, I seemed to have missed something with Rygel. I remember him getting out of the box then seeing him on the trap door, but thats all I remember of him. http://www.hostboard.com/ubb/confused.gif
Quick note on Black Scorpian. I wont watch it again. Toold ya so! I gave it a shot and I doubt they can fix it. It really should have given MORE to how she met the ex-con (or put him away) and how he is able to manipulate matter like it was in a transporter. What year is this supposed to be in anyway?
Here is SPACE.COM's guide to Farscape:
http://www.space.com/sciencefiction/...ape_guide.html
Nommy,
Scorpi wouldn't look nearly as good in the outfit though. LOL
I probably should have asked before. Does anyone mind if we post information about the current Farscape ep being shown in the US as long as we put some space as a warning?
rantarn--the brits are ahead of us in episodes, the canadians and aussies are too drunk to care. i think if you leave some spoiler breathing space you can post whatever you want.
