Does anyone else read these books? I just finished the fourth one (today in fact). I have to say that while I started them mostly to see what the fuss was all about and cause my bro in law recommended them. I got quickly sucked in though and now consider myself among the throngs desperately waiting for more. http://www.hostboard.com/ubb/smile.gif
Also, I just caught a piece of the trailer for the movie and was totally awed by it. I WILL see that in the theaters! I WILL I WILL I WILL..... :-)

Ran, I have been hooked completely by the Harry Potter series... first my mother gave the books to our son, then I started reading 'em, and when he didn't want the last book I went and got it for myself! Is there a website for the movie?

I read the first book out of curiosity also. I have the second, but haven't gotten a chance to read it yet. I'll probably get a chance to read it when school gets out for the summer, or during spring recess.
Ery, as a matter of fact, yes there is a website. It's harrypotter.warnerbros.com
You can see the trailer there as well as "enroll in Hogwarts". The Sorting Hat assigned me to Gryffindor, though I suspect everyone does. http://www.hostboard.com/ubb/smile.gif Always pictured myself more as a Ravenclaw type.

Ery, anytime. I do have to say that from the trailer, I think they hit the casting dead on. It was so obvious who everyone was and it's almost as if they took it from my mind. One thing though is I always pictured the Great Hall with the door in a different place, but oh well. http://www.hostboard.com/ubb/smile.gif
Ran, ooo that was fun! I'm in Gryffindor too, if you need help with your spells homework http://www.hostboard.com/ubb/wink.gif
What a fun site, kids no doubt get a thrill, and it certainly appears to be what my imagination pictures when I read "Harry Potter."
One of the things I really enjoy about the books is that they truly are fun for both kids and adults to read -- not written down to a child's level, but containing the childlike wonder (with equal parts of "ewww GROSS!! that kids love) with really ripping plots and characters.
Thanks for the link!!
I love the Harry Potter books. I bought Book 4 the night it came out. It was interesting to be at a book stoer at Midnight and to watch all the kids talking about the book and how all they were going to dow as read that weekend.
So anyone want to speculate about book 5?
What I wonder is whether the next book will come out this year, before the movie debuts next fall.

I get the feeling that the book will not be out until after the movie. During the book 4 publicity trip, Rawlings (sp) had not even started writing book 5
I think J.K. Rowling is trying to get the books out about once a year, so I wouldn't be shocked if the book came out around the time of the movie anyway. But certainly all the publicity recently has been on the movie. What book 5 will be about I have no idea, but I'd guess a lot more to do with "He Who Must Not Be Named."

I also thought it was funny that the producers of the movie wanted Hermione's name changed to "Bailey". Stupid Hollywood. Rowling refused.
I also read all four parts and got kind of addicted. My children read all the books twice (at least!). I think No 4 is a bit tough with this scene on the graveyard, but it definitely puts a spell on you.
Fer SHURE, Ran!!! http://www.hostboard.com/ubb/tongue.gif

Number 4 was certainly the darkest of the bunch, that's for sure. Certainly stuff you wouldn't see in Charlotte's Web. http://www.hostboard.com/ubb/smile.gif
I loved the books! They renewed my passion for excellent childrens literature!! Joanne Rowlings has an enviable talent. I think the last paragraph of the third novel is one of the greatest closes in literary history...thanks for the Harry Potter url...I'm off to sign up - and knowing my luck, I'll end up in Slytherin...LOL!!
Hi Julia,
First, nice to see you here.
Second, if you do end up in Slytherin, at least Ery and I will have double potions class with you! http://www.hostboard.com/ubb/smile.gif
I'm in! And in Griffindor, too! It doesn't sort everybody into Griffindor house, though - Peter managed to become a Ravenclaw...
I love the way they've constructed the site and the movie looks well in keeping with the novels. One thing puzzled me though, they changed the name for the film. It's going to be called 'Harry Potter and the Sorcerers Stone' instead of the Philosophers' Stone....odd?
I ended up in Slytherin. hmmmmmm
Julia, that's because in the US that is the name of the first book. I know it's "Philosopher's Stone" in the UK though the rest of the book is the same.
Ya know Crash, there was always something about you, but I never could quite put my finger on until now..... ;-)
Thanks, Ran! My daughter has just been explaining the title difference to me...er...at great length! LOL!! You're not the only Slytherin, ProfCrash - PTL kept on trying till he got in there...
Says it's so he can spy on Snape, but personally, I have my doubts....
Can someone tell me how returning the purse of gold lands a person in Slytherin? Liking chocolate jelly beans? Wanting to fly?
I have to tell ya, I feel slighted. (grins)
Sorry, PC, the Sorting Hat is never wrong. :-)
Actually, I chose transfiguration.
So how do people think book 5 is going to open up? I am hoping that it spends some time on Harry's summer. after all, he has a great deal to think about. I am guessing he feels guilty because of Cedric's death and he is worried about Voldemort. Its not like he can talk to his familya bout what happened, which is a recipe for disaster.
What do other people think?
Just bought Book 1. I guess Ill be joining the ranks after I read the other 2 B5 Legions of Fire books and the Technomage Trilogy. Sheesh
Quit whining, Nommy. There are always those hours between midnight at 6 AM when you aren't doing anything http://www.hostboard.com/ubb/tongue.gif Or you can take the books to the bathroom....
LOL Ery!
Actually I am reading Book1 of the Technomages and Book 1 (year1) of Harry at the same time. http://www.hostboard.com/ubb/tongue.gif
Heheh good boy. We've got so many books going right now that they're spilling off each nightstand!

I just finished re-reading Harry Potter 1 and am currently re-reading Harry Potter 2 (grins) They are good books to take my mind off of work
I even got Mrs. Ran hooked on the books. I just hope I don't have to fight her for it when book 5 comes out. http://www.hostboard.com/ubb/smile.gif
(She also gave me a cool light up Harry Potter pen. lumos!)
LOL a Harry Potter pen? Coolness. Oh and buy two copies of the book then donate the second to the library when your both done. No fighting and you help the local library out. (grins)
Well, I've now read all 4 of them since April and I'm hooked. In My opinion each one has gotten better and definitely the story is getting thicker and building more. Does anybody know when Harry Potter Book 5 is coming out (or has it already)? I've never seen any references anywhere about anything past Goblet of Fire, so my assumption is that 5 is not out yet. Anybody?
Hiya Sin!
According to Karina, the book was delayed due to the time needed for the filming of the movie. I do not think we will see book 5 until after the movie comes out.
I believe we will not see book 5 until after the movie comes out.
What I want to know is when will books three and four finally come out in paperback? I borrowed three from the library and lugged it around, but number four is HUGE!!! With the new job I will have plenty of time to read books on the trains, but I really don't want to deal with a hardcover that big.
I occasionally go to amazon to see if they have a publish date for three and four in paperback and there is nothing. They do have to come out eventually, don't they?
Polly,
Right there with you. I finally got so hungry for 3 qand 4 that I bought them in HArdbound version. I too started 4 on the train back to San Jose (about a 4 hour ride). I personally didn't want to shell out the price for the hardbound, but as I said, I just got too hungry. I think, though, that with a book that big, for me, it easier to handle as hardbound rather than Paperback.
So somewhere in the remaining 3 years JKR says that there will be a female defense against the Dark Arts Teacher, could 5 be the one? Will Ron make a real move on Hermione this year, or simply throw jealous fits again when another boy does? How will Hogwarts change now He-who-must-not-be-named is back on the prowl? Will HArry finally be able to go home with Sirius for Summer break at the end or will he be stuck with the awful Dursleys, yet again?
Although I guess it's too late for some http://www.hostboard.com/ubb/smile.gif although they are only in hardback, try getting books 3 and 4 at a place like BJ's or Costco. That's where I got mine at a considerable savings from the original price.
Just read this over at Scifi Wire.
Apparently a Scottish Newspaper accused JK Rowling in an article of having writers block and that's why the 5th book wasn't released in July 2001 for Harry's Birthday.
Her reply went something to the effect of When the journalists stop ringing my bell and beating on my door, I'm writing away happily. There never was any intention of releasing the 5th book in 2001 and no deadline is set. That information has been out there for over a year, the children know this, how could it have escaped a Scottish NAtional Paper.
So that confirms it for us, definitely no 5th book released until at least next year, as several posters here have surmised it wouldn't be until after release of the 1st movie. I also would assume, that since she is working on it, and it won't be released for at least 4 or 5 more months, that it will be another huge one like 4 was, who knows maybe even bigger.
