Oh yeah, TOurney time is here. Basketball mayhem for the next month. Gotta love it!!!
The Big Ten tourney is in its second day and all is right in the world. OK, if MSU loses tonight I won't be happy.
The Number One seeds in most of the conferences have fallen, which is why the tournamets are soooo much fun. If a team gets its act together, it can go far and make some noise no matter what happened in the conference.
Not to mention, some of the better teams that have been suspect all year are showing us why people had little faith in them (ie Notre Dame, Iowa State)while others are making people think that they relly were as good as we thought (Seton Hall)
Its the most wonderful time of the year.....
Again already?? Grrrrrr......
PC sad, MSU lost to Penn State last night in the Big Ten tourney. OK, so the upsets are what makes Tourney time fun but not when its my own team (Sigh)
THe plus is that Iowa State lost and Syracuse lost. Stanford lost on Thursday, so everyone who is ranked is losing. Well, most everyone...
Seton Hall got creamed by Boston? Wow...
With the way Seton Hall has been playing this season that is not a surprise. I was impressed that they won the games that they did. Lots of talent but they have trouble playing team ball.
And another top 10 team falls, Flordia lost to Mississippi state today (grins)
As I type, Indiana is with three points of Illinois and Georgia Tech is within two points of North Carolina, two more possible upsets. (grins)
I love this time of year
Happy for you,PC,but I happen to be a baseball and football fan. Leaving here in a few minutes to watch the XFL game.
Color me surprised, but Illinois and MSU ended up with number 1 seeds, Illinois in the Mid-West and MSU in the South. The other number one seeds are Duke (East) and Stanford (south)
Go CSUN!!!!
I don't expect them to go all the way, but they could win thier first game. In the last 2 years we've beaten several teams in this years field, including Kent, Fresno State, and U.C.L.A.

Go Matadors

Absom, you're a football fan and you like the XFL? (just kidding) I did watch the first week, and I tried to like it, but there are just to many gimmicks. The camera angles are horrendous, and to be honest, the cheerleaders and announcers are just darn annoying.
*Azziz sees QueenGOP's name and faints dead away* http://www.hostboard.com/ubb/wink.gif
Hey Queenie, good to see you! http://www.hostboard.com/ubb/biggrin.gif
hehehe
Erm, go Thames Valley Tigers!
Just doesn't have the ring to it, does it?
LOL Aziz. It warms my heart to know I was missed. Oops, I think that's the tequilla.
Well hello Asis -
Since you're in the fainting mood today, I thought I'd give ya a little nudge. http://www.hostboard.com/ubb/tongue.gif

Hey! Welcome Mirafan and hey, QueenGOP! I haven't seen you since Vegas! Are you watching the Spin Room? I get my dose of politics every night at 7:30 http://www.hostboard.com/ubb/wink.gif

Hey, Mirafan! Did you and Ivanna get the email I sent about Community Zero?
And PC, you are right about Notre Dame. I would really not be surprised at all to see Xavier take them out in the first round. After all, Miami beat Notre Dame badly in South Bend, and only managed to be 8th in the MAC. Xavier had little trouble with Miami, either. Notre Dame simply cannot be that good.
And as for MSU and Illinois being #1 seeds, nice to see the Big Ten get some respect. Go Big Ten! I detest the Big East and the ACC. But family roots running deep, still gotta pull for Kentucky.
Hi Merle -
Um . . . I don't think we did. You're probably gonna have to send it again.
Hey Mirafan. Welcome aboard. You would probably recognize me from SFSites as Kimball Orion.
Thanks everyone!
I don't know how often I can post here, but I'll make an effort. And just in case you're wondering, Ivana and I are still doing great. You'll be hearing from her real soon.
Let me know what's up with the features on this site. I'm as newbie as you can get. http://www.hostboard.com/ubb/wink.gif

WOOHOOO Welcome Home Mirafan (grins)
I have Xavier over Notre Dame. Also have UCLA losing to Hofstra (grins) My parents are not happy with me (they go to the UCLA games)
This is why I love the Tournament. Iowa State, a 2 seed, lost to a 15 seed in Hampton. OK, so the Big 10 sucked it up with Wisconsin, Indiana, and Ohio State losing in the first round. Yesterdays games were pretty much all close (excpet the 1 seeds pummeling the 16 seeds which was expected.) Kentucky, UCLA, and Maryland barely survived.
This is the life. Upsets, close calls, and lots of fun
Oh, happy day!! Kent takes out Indiana! The ending of the Hampton upset of Iowa State was tremendous. I think I'll always remember one of the players lifting the coach with a bear hug around his middle, as the coach pumped arms and legs in jubilation. That is what is so cool. Only thing cooler would be if a team like Hampton won the whole affair.
And now today, Butler womps Wake Forrest. And the beat goes on.....
Mirafan, guess I have the wrong addy for you.
Aint it great? The ACC is losing big time today (thank god its not just the Big 10)
Temple defeats Texas, Gonzaga defeats Virginaia. can someone explain why the tournament seed Gonzaga as a 12 seed? What about the last two trips to the sweet sixteen made them think Gonzaga could not do it again?
I say let more of the Mid-Majors into the tournament. every year this happens, the Mid Majors are ranked low and then beat the teams in the power conferences. When is the committee going to learn and see that the Mid Majors have what it takes?
Excellent point, Crash. Of course the answer is money. More majors mean more fannies in the seats. The committee ought to be embarrassed this year by what has happened thus far. Instead, they are too interested in seeing if they can stop Bob Knight from making some $$$ for filling out a bracket.
Mirafan?? HERE???
Wow...cool.
Iowa state game was pathetic. They were 9-10 points ahead with a couple of minutes left, and they just ran out of gas. I'll admit, though, 1 point games put you on the edge of your seat.
Yeah, watching that coach pump his arms and legs while in the air was fun to watch, too.
Now, to see if Stanford can keep it's act together. It's simply a local area team thing for me, but what the heck. Cal-Berkeley is not too far away, but I'm betting that Cal Fresno puts them away (if they haven't already...no, I haven't looked at a schedule today)
Anyway, good to see both QGOP and Mirafan posting again. Life is good...
And another upset. Indiana State will play Gonzaga for a trip to the Sweet 16, guaranteeing at least one Cinderella.
Now, would you really want to be Florida, and have to face Temple in the next round? And how about North Carolina. I know Princeton hasn't had the same success they had a few years ago, but they are still maddenning to play againts. Hehehe, this is so much fun!
And QGOP, sorry I forgot to mention how nice it is to see you posting again. http://www.hostboard.com/ubb/smile.gif
WOOHOOO go ZAGS!! WOOHOOOO! http://www.hostboard.com/ubb/biggrin.gif

QueenGop, I lost interest in the XFL after the first few games. The cheerleaders were too over the top, as you said and the rules kept changing so fast that I coudn't keep up with them.
Wow, there's really a team called the gazongas? Maybe basketball isn't so bad after all. Nahhhhh...... http://www.hostboard.com/ubb/smile.gif
LOL Here's the bottle asis, sorry it's empty (burp)
Thanks, Merele, and Wizz and everyone else. I almost forgot how much fun this was.
Now as For Prof Crash....
Hofstra? <Hofstra? Paleease.
Nice to see the Pac 10 doing well (although I would have liked USC to have lost.

GO BRUINS

I had the same thoughts about Gonzaga. Every year they do well in the tournament, but they never get any respect. Go figure.
And Rantarn, Gonzaga is the school name, not their nickname or mascot.
[This message has been edited by QueenGOP (edited March 18, 2001).]
Well, I always pick the 12 seeds to beat the 5 seeds, works well in the pool (grins)
Stanford and Duke had close calls yesterday. As much as I hate to say it, I would not be surprised if MSU lost today. The first half the Spartans played against alabama State on Friday was pathetic. I want the Spartans to win for 2 reasons 1) they are my school 2) Pacific plays Fresno State in ,most sports and I really dislike them.
Queenie, s'ok, Malibu takes better anyway!
Ah well, the Sweet Sixteen is set. I can't believe I am saying this but go UCLA. I would love to see the Dukies knocked out. Norht Carolina's fall to Penn State is not a suprise. North Carolina has been playing weak ball the last month or so and Penn State is a good squad. Not to mention, it has beena while since North Carloina has beaten a team from the Big 10.
QGOP, I know. It was a joke. I loathe everything to do with March Madness so was making light of it in the hopes that it would go away quicker.
OOPS Sorry Rantarn.
Hey on the bright side you can watch the XFL.
two words
duke rules
three more words
duke absolutely rules
iz
LOL Sorry iz but I disagree. Duke played a good game, Williams looked amazing but UCLA played with them. Stanford had some problems with the Bearcats in Cinci as well.
The big difference I see between the One seeds (so far) and the teams they are playing is that the one seeds have a few more really good players, which is why they are the best in the nation. Problem for the lower seeds is that in the last 5 minutes of the game, the UCLA's and Cinci's are too tired to keep up the pace and end up losing. Last night, it was not until the 35th minute that the 1 seeds, Duke and Stanford, where able to really pull away from their opponents.
So what will happen when these teams meet? Who knows, those are going to be fun games.
Yes, MSU manages to get past Gonzaga after a crappy first half. I am not sure how much Temples man zone looks like Gonzagas man zone. If the two are similar, MSU should be in good shape to advance to the Final Four.
Illinois vs Arizona should be interesting. Its like Arizona suddenly remembered how to play basketball. Then again, Illinois was able to beat Kansas with three players fouling out in the last 5 minutes of the game. Read that as Illinois is a really, really deep team.
Duke could lose to USC today. USC has had a good run, they could give Duke some serious trouble. If they are deep enough to stay with Duke in the last 5 minutes of the game then Duke will probably lose. Duke has not pulled away from teams until that last 5 minutes and when they have lost it has been with teams that had enough subs to keep people fresh.
No idea about Stanford vs Maryland. I really don't think either team is as good as they have been hyped. Maryland had a major slump mid season that makes one wonder and Stanford has not played that many teams that play different styles.
Should be an interesting couple of days
