B5 Rangers Movie and possible Series

Well, we've all heard the good news by now and it's set 3 years after Objects at rest (that would be 2 years before Crusade, I believe). We know it's about the Rangers putting the galaxy back together after the Shadow War.

What or who would you like to see from the movie and possible series.

Speculate at will, but no spoilers beyond the Centauri Trilogy of books and the original 5 year run of B5 and it's movies, plus the 13 episodes of Crusade

Crusade was supposed to have a cure or resolution to the plague prior to the end of the 5 year run (I think it was supposed to come about 50% - 60% of the way into the series). So if the Series comes about and lasts, maybe we will get to see the resolution of the Drahk Plague even if Crusade doesn't get finished. Also the Telepath war had already happened in Crusade's timeline so we may get some of that as well worked into the series.

Lennier bailed from the Rangers, but maybe we'll get to see his final fate as well.

Oh, and "a fan favorite" from B5 is also supposed to be involved with the movie and/or possible series. Any guesses or hopes as to who that might be.

Sorry, PC, I think Sinclair is out, although I could see Mr. G being the one. And being that Delenn is Entilzah, makes perfect sensse for her to be heavily involved in it.

From the annouoncement at the Sci Fi Channel site, it sounds like we will be dealing with an all new cast. We may see some familiar faces from time to time but I would be surprised if any of the characters from B5 are regulars if there is a new series

Actually PC, JMS Speaks says there is one major Character from B5 in the movie. I read too much into and took that into the series in my head

If there is a cast member to be in the movie, I'm thinking it may be Alfred Bester. No reason, just guessing at this point. I'd really like to see Susan Ivanova, but realize that's not possible (Or is it?), & same for Kosh N. I'd like to see Londo or Vir pop up in the movie.

Would like to see a Soul Hunter or two & I would like there to be references & flasbacks to the B-5 station itself.

Asis?? Marcus died in Season 4. How can he be in a Movie/Series set 3 years after Season 5? I realize they unfroze Aeryn and brought her back to life, but JMS doesn't do things like that (Well, other than the Sheridan Z'ha'dum thing)

Marcus was frozen. And he is a fan *gag* favorite. All JMS stated is that a *fan favorite* from B5 will be in this movie. I think he is twisted enough to do it. Weird bud, I have never seen the topics do that. I'll see if I can find out what happened. It told me that there was a missing end tag and the only option I had was closing the topic, which seemed to fix it, so I opened the topic again. Truly odd.

Ivanova is still in earth Force, the only way she would be in the movie is if her ship was somehow involved.

Delenn or Sheridan make sense, Delenn is Entilzah and Sheridan the President of the Alliance. either one, most likely both, would be involved in making a decision about the Rangers future.

I would not be surprised to see that the character is Lennier. His story line is one of the story lines that is left dangeling in the worse way. On top of that, he is looking for a way to redeem himself and he has had Ranger training. His bringing info to a group of Rangers about a race in trouble and working with them would make the most sense.

If the movie takes place three years after the series ends, then it should be Marcus. Unless they have found away to return someones life energy after they have been dead for a substantial period of time, there is no way to revive Marcus. If Marcus is revived, I will bne more then a bit disappointed with JMS.

Trying to figure out how JMS could bring in Garibaldi or G'Kar. We know from the books that both are acting as independent advisors for Sheridan. (shrugs)

Crash, I dis-agree about Marcus with you. I figure, he only lost his life energy. He didn't sustain the injuries that Ivonova had, he just gave her enough to fight off the fatal problems she had. Unfortunately, it was 99.9% of lifes energy that he gave?. p> Now, I dont see why, say, maybe a soulhunter couldn't be involved in getting back his lifes energy. I always figured if 100 rangers gave 1 % of their energy to Marcus...he could be brought back. Perhaps a stray Vorlon could help.

Mind you, in keeping with JMS' tradition...he couold probably only keep it for...say...FIVE YEARS...LOL

The way I read the situation is that Marcus is dead. Once a person has given all their life energy, or a substantial portion of it, there is no going back. If it was not the case, then how was the machine used as a form of the death penalty?

What we saw with Marcus was his telling Ivanova that he loved her and then passing out. Some time later, we are not given a reference which is part of the problem here, the Med Team finds him strapped into the device and freak out. Ivanova tells Franklin that she woke up and found Marcus unconcsious next to her but that she still was not strong enough to stop the device.

If he had simply lost alot of energy, but not enough to kill him, then he would probably have been in a coma until he had regained enough energy to wake up. That didn't happen. Instead we see Ivanova and Franklin mourning his loss.

It could very well be they were mourning is loss only if he comes out of stasus until they can find a cure for having no life enregy, but I would find that to be more then a bit lame.

Not saying it can't happn, it can. I would be really disappointed if JMS stooped to that. Granted it may excite some fans to have him back but it would be really, really cheesy.

I would say that Sheridan would probably not be the one, because JMS said Fan Favorite, and although not everyone is as unfond of Sheridan as PC, I don't see him as being a large population's Favorite

I thought it might be G'Kar and/or Lyta. Not all of read the books, so as far as I am concerned, he and Lyta are out exploring things or doing something until the time that G'Kar goes to Centauri Prime where he kills Londo.

G'Kar is not all that active in the books, at least not until the last book in the Centauri Prime series.

Plus which, being involved in the books should not remove someone from a series or movie. They can write a series or movie at a time when the character is not active in the book

Ok, I hate to burst the Marcus bubble, but I highly doubt JMS would bring him back only to kill him off again. He's in cryo-stasis, with orders from Adm. Susan Ivanova that he's to remain in stasis until a "cure" is found. That's on the placard on his cryo-tube. Also, she usurps Dr. Franklin a bit in the final toast to friends (Marcus) at the last dinner with Sheridan before Sheridan wandered off to meet Lorien for the last time. I'm pretty sure all the names mentioned at dinner were of those that were no longer among the living.

Zathras was a favorite, but he doesn't get out much. Unless this new movie has some dealings with Draal or the Great Machine. Garibaldi doesn't seem to fit into the theme of the Rangers, but again, they may go to Mars for a visit. Galen? Everyone these days needs a technomage. Then again, I can't really see him as a "fan favorite". Vir is shuttling between Babylon 5 and Centauri Prime working on getting rid of the Drakh. No telling what his travels allow him to encounter. (Well, I liked Vir...). Delenn is a possible, but she's got a very young David to tend to as well. Lennier would be a possible, but he's an outcast by now, unless there was some reconcilliation I know nothing about. He'd probably spend most of his time avoiding anything to do with the Alliance.
My guess is Zathras. People are still enchanted with him and the Great Machine, and it would certainly attract viewers even more so.

three years after objects at rest would mean that g'kar and lyta are back from their travels and lyta has checked in with garibaldi to see if he fulfilled their deal.

i would love to see andreas katsulas andpat tallman brought back into some of this series. i would imagine both are available for guest appearances. and g'kar certainly qualifies as a fan favorite.

iz, I had not thought of that but I am not sure how G'Kar would fit in with the Rangers and Lyta will be busily preparing for a war against the Corp.

Lennier would be a good fit, the movie could very well be the story of how he gains redemption.

I'd really enjoy seeing Zathras again! There could be a number of reasons why the Great Machine could be involved to help the Ranger's mission.

& what Proff said about Lennier would make a good vehicle to get him back in the Rangers graces. I'm sorry to say I heven't had the opportunity to read any B-5 literature but just going by the series, it always left me feeling there was a big hole left by what happened with Lennier & his choices.

Well, going from the term *fan favorite* I think it would have to be a supporting character rather than one of the stars. Otherwise the better choice of words would be one of the *stars* from B5...

If we're going with "supporting player", it could be Zack. Not my personal favorite, but he was very popular with some of the female fans.

This movie (Rangers) takes place 3 years after <u>Objects at Rest</u>. The "Teep War" lasted two years, and IIRC, started one year after OaR. One year after the Teep War was the Drakh attack on Earth, essentially meaning that Crusade started 4 years after OaR.
If so, Lyta is already dead when this story begins. G'kar, though, seems to be floating around as Sheridans troubleshooter up to the time he visits Centauri Prime for the last time. Don't know when he started that job, but he's a pretty good candidate for the "fan favorite", as he probably deals a lot with the Rangers if he's working for Sheridan after his (short) hiatus exploring the universe.
I'm still gonna stick with Zathras. Of all the quotes spoken from the show, "This is wrong tool" has to be up there as one of the most frequently quoted.

it seems to me the teep war could only reach its height two years after Objects at Rest--because that's when Lyta returns and Garibaldi releases whatever funds he has funnelled to her cause. hence, the war could still be going on three years after Objects at Rest, and Lyta would still be alive through the opening of the drakh war and the beginning of the Crusade expedition.

g'kar presumably spends some time back on narn to settle issues there; however, i can easily see an interaction between him and the Rangers. he probably ran across Rangers frequently during his two years of travel and I would imagine they would also want to debrief him on what he saw. Also, Katsulas has just finished a film, released in September, and therefore might be available again for a TV series.

It strieks me that the teep war would be starting about that time. Lyta did not get the cash needed to run the war until she finds Garibaldi two years after Objects at Rest. It would take some time to organize folks and use the money a bit more discretly to buy the weapons and the like. So at the three year mark, my guess is the Teep War has just gotten under way.

Sorry Iz, but if there is only one B5 person crossing over to the Ranger's movie/show, it would most likely be Sheridan, Delenn or Lennier. Really those three characters are the only ones that fit really well. The Ranger's are a rather secretive and snobbish group from what we have seen so far.

I can't see having any of the other characters interacting with them on a regular basis.

However, it won't be the first time if they throw in someone who does not belong. Lochley was incredibily out of place in a few of the Crusades eps...

From what I recall, but can't pinpoint the source, the Teep war was 2 years long.

2263 Tensions build
2264 The war takes place. Lyta finds Garibaldi (two years from their last meeting) and gets her "funds".
2265 Lyta blows up Psi Corps HQ (and herself)
I don't have the <u>Legions of Fire</u> with me; maybe Vir's escapades with the planet killer has a year reference?
2266 The Drakh (with help from the Centauri) get things started with the planet killer. Ranger story starts (movie)
2267 The Drakh pollute the Earth's atmosphere upon losing the last of the planet killers.

Point being, Lyta is long gone by the time the movie takes place. I sure wouldn't mind seeing her in a Babylon 5 story again, but this don't look like it. As for Sheridan, Delenn and Lennier...this "fan favorite" isn't showing up for the potential series, just this movie. While it could be those three, G'kar, Vir, Galen and even Zathras could be included for a one-time appearance.

OK! This may seem WAY off base, but why not bring in...er...Lorien?

I mean, he IS the first being, ever, in our galaxy. He can come back from the Rim on occasion and check out the progress. Just a thought.

Lorien said he would be waiting for Sheridan beyond the rim, I doubt that he would show up in the movie.

but this is also a pilot for a possible series. seems to me jms would keep his options open. if he's going to get a new series out of this, it wouldn't make sense to start all the action after the teep war, unless he already knows he can't get pat tallman or ????????? to play lyta and bester (i ALWAYS blankd on that guy's name!)

I read an interview near the end of last year with Jerry Doyle where he said he was working on a "top-secret" project with JMS - could this be it?

Also, as I mentioned in another thread - I heard of a story by JMS about Marcus that said he was revived many, many years later (after the death of all the present characters) & lived out his life somewhere else. Anyone else know anything about this?

I have heard people speculate about it but I have never heard JMS say anything about it in the books, comic boks, or interviews. I know there are alot of fans who would like to see that happen.

Guess I better end the suspense. The story you are thinking of is called "Space, Time and the Incurable Romantic." It was written by JMS himself and published in Amazing Stories number 602, the summer issue of 2000.

First sentence goes like this:

"Much to his own surprise, Marcus Cole breathed deeply."

The time frame is almost 300 years after his "cryonic suspension."

This story pissed me off. Marcus does something pretty unforgivable in it, though not entirely out of character. I won't spoil it, and I don't agree with the people who whined that Marcus would never do that, but he goes way beyond anything I can justify morally.

Thant being said and assuming that JMS meant the story to be official, Marcus is not available for the movie or the new series.

As much as I would like to see a story about Lennier's redemption, I think that might require too much background in B5. Although Sci Fi is getting into this because they like the ratings of the B5 reruns, I assume they want this thing to appeal to lots of people who aren't already B5 fans. That means that the movie introducing it shouldn't require much of a B5 background. I'll guess Delenn as the returning character. She is the Entil'zha. The rangers do have a leader. Why not include her in a movie that will, in effect, be the pilot for a new show? They will have to refer to her in some way in the series, so lets get her established right from the start.

Just my analysis.

Maybe the mystery is solved. There's a discussion on who the mystery guest from Babylon 5 series will be. Maybe yes, maybe no. Evidence is somewhat compelling. Look at your own risk.

Polly, I have to agree with you. I found a site that posted biographies for almost all the main characters, based on the two series, short stories and comics. Morally, it was wrong. But after his discovery 300 years later, I can imagine he was pretty PO'd. Kind of like who's going to get the last word. I'd say more, but it'd be spoiling it. However, if I can find that link again, I'll post it for anyone interested in reading the bio's.
