And on a side note. Steve the guy who saved Hostboard for the wrecking ball is very cool. He cares about what we the posters think and is doing various things to spiff up the site, but get this, asking for feedback first! *big grin*
So click thru please. Hostboard gets credit from every ISP that clicks thru every four hours. So clicking three times in a row, equals one click, but click every four hours counts as a click.

Just thought I'd bump it up again to keep the thought alive. I run in and out of Hostboard up to 5 times a day and still have a tough time remembering to click (although I do try to remember at leaast 2 or 3 times a day).
So remember to click the ad.

a while back i clicked on a banner ad at sfv and i have been getting junk emails from them since. so i am kinda leary about clicking those banner ads.

SF? You mean the SciFi channel? That's a bit different than here, if I understand things. SciFi gathers all the information you offer them and use it for non-spam email (yeah, it looks like spam, reads like spam...) as you volunteered your email address and possibly missed a couple of check boxes already checked indicating that you were interested. There should be a mechanism (you may have to dig for them) that allows you to be removed from their emailings. No guarentee, though. YMMV.

Sorry for the misconception on my part. As for this site, I don't think when you click on the advertiser there's any information sent along with the browser request. At least, I haven't found any junk mail that would have originated from here, but that is an educated guess.

There is no email sent by clicking on the banners here at Hostboard. Just click, give the site time to load, then kill it. That's all it takes for Hostboard to get the credit they need to keep this place afloat.
Also, if you have a modem connection, anytime you connect you can click on a banner and have it count. Time isn't a factor because your IP address is almost always different.

Here's an interesting thing. Some time ago, when I first started clicking on the banners here, I noticed an increase in the number of attempted incursions my firewall was heading off. Out of curiousity I started typing in the URLs it was blocking, and found that when I could get access (sometimes I was denied, although "pinging" frequently revealed that the URL was active), the site from whence the probe had come was a foreign one. Japanese, Korean, that sort of language. And they were telecommunications companies.
Anyway, since I stopped clicking on the banners, these attempts have slowed to a bare trickle. A coincidence? I don't know. Has anybody else had a similar experience?

Hmmm...interesting. I haven't got a firewall, I'm just using NAT. On other sites I've had a lot of screens (pushes) pop up, coming in rather fast, too, but eventually they go away. Nothing like that from this site, though. However, because most incoming traffic gets tossed if I don't make a request for it, I don't see it. As you said though, it goes away when you stop clicking on the banners. YMMV.
