New Star Trek

Well,

From what I have seen in little tv tidbits, it looks pretty cool. Certainly abit less anticeptic thaan TNG and/or TOS. We shall see how this works. I am keeping an open mind.

Really good article in Next weeks TV guide. Cool Pics of the new ship and some pretty good character profiles as well as a few teasers about the direction the plot will go in. Definitely seems a better premise than alot of the other ones we heard about while waiting for it to become official.

I have mixed feelings I guess. I think prequels are hard to do and mess up continuity.

Just curious, I'm wondering what everyone else thinks of the new Star Trek series starting soon. You know, pre thoughts.

I share your reservations AsIs. But hopefully they're for naught, because Berman and Braga are writing it and if memory serves me correctly they did all of Voyager and DS9, and about half of TNG, so maybe they can pull it off.

I'm looking forward to the series--more so than when I first heard that it was on its way. The original statements didn't sound very exciting. I credit their series of tantilizing ads during Voyager for my more welcoming attitude. Hope I'm not too disappointed. Course Scott Bakula doesn't hurt, either. BTW, is he the only *adult* in the crew?!

Enterprise the Series Pilot - Broken Bow

I went into it having little to no expectations so I was actually pleasantly surprised. I really liked it when the one crew member suggested using the transporter to reclaim Klang and Archer said no, they've "gone through too much to risk bringing him back inside out". Unfortunately they kinda killed that when they used it to grab Archer at the final second before he got toasted by the Suliban. I would've really liked them to wait a full season before doing something like that after having fiddled with the functionality of the transporter for several episodes.

T'Pol was cool. She was a perfect blend of early B'Lana, Seven, and Kira the way she started out in the episode, and that woulda gotten old real quick so they mellowed her by episode's end.

Dr. Phloxx, definitely a Neelix retread. And the black helmsman seems to be Tom Paris. I liked that Archer is more Kirk than Sisko or Picard, although he is a rather laid back Kirk most of the time. Couldn't find anyone to compare the First officer to, he seems to have his own character, that was a nice touch. The dark haired guy was a retread of the genetically altered and knowing it Dr. Bashir except on the bridge rather than sickbay.

At least they didn't retread Chakotay and Janeway.

All in All, I think it may turn out to be a better series than I had hoped, certainly seems to have more promise than Voyager which although I liked several of Voyagers characters, the stories simply weren't any good generally.

Here's to hoping it gets better (I've seen worse pilots for good shows) and that they tread carefully and don't screw up history that is already established.

I hesitate to post this, but I was very disappointed. I thought the whole thing smelled of retread. Bakula seemed wooden to me and I kept getting the impression that he was having difficulty remembering his lines. This is not meant to be nit-picking. I expected much more than this from the opener and feel let down.

The plot had holes large enough to fly the Enterprise through and there were too many pat situations. Additionally, the taping was ragged. One portion, as an example, left the screen blank for a lengthy period.

I know others will stongly disagree. Sorry, can't help it.

Absom, don't worry 'bout it. New Star Trek series always start off like that. Wooden, setups you can see a mile off, etc. Everything you said. Think of Spock in "Menangerie" (too lazy to look up the spelling). Or, (drumroll) Janeway! Good grief...
You know, I think every first season for a show is a bit ragged. It takes a bit of routine before the actors get into the groove, so to speak. Shoot, even Babylon 5 took a bit to get into rythmn. Difference there was the story line was much, much better, and you weren't so focused on the characters. Watch a season 1 episode, then Objects at Rest. Noticible difference, IMHO.

RATZ! I don't think I get the channel, so I guess I'll have to get along without the Enterprise. Is Enterprise exclusively on UPN? Until I checked tonight, I had been under the impression that one of my satellite channels had this covered. It's always somethin??

I finally watched the Premier last night and I thought it was pretty good. Yes, its new and needs to find its own groove and I can see such great potential here.

WHile I do not want to nit pi ck yet on details, I do wonde whether those were phasers or lasers coming out of the ship. Looked like Phasers to me. Hmmmm

I liked the time dialation effect when the sulaiban wen tot shoot Archer, he got out of the way of the main "phase" power of the hand phaser. Cool effect.

LEt us not tear this series apart before it even begins. From what I saw so far...It will be a good series.

One more comment though, some people are right...the doctore is a major cross between Neelix and the Holographick doctor (Zimmerman). He probably studied bot characters...Personally, I like the mix.

For folks who missed the premiere--see if you have a combined UPN/WB channel. In Gainesville, it aired at 10 p.m. Thursday, September 27 intead of on Wednesday.

My reactions: Well, I've seen the word "retread" used a lot about the premiere and I kind of agree. I like the Starfleet/Vulcan tensions, and the look and feel of the ship, and Z. Cochrane's speech about how the Warp 5 engine would allow us to "seek out new worlds and new civilizations." The crew also works well as an ensemble and that's a good sign. But I was real unhappy to discover this whole "temporal cold war" theme right in the first episode. I am so sick of time travel stories. I would actually prefer to see this crew based on earth, and making periodic ventures into space. I guess that would be more like DS9.

Dr. Phlox is a potential fly in the ointment. Too similar to Neelix for my tastes. Frankly, there hasn't been a really good doctor since Bones.

All in all, I think I am looking forward more to the Ranger movie and the return of Farscape.

I guess there is only so many directions that any scifi series based on Star Trek can take. Considering this is the beginning of Starfleet, basically.... The characters are not so regimented or military. The actors do definately seem to be at ease with one another.

Once again, I say that we give them the season to see what they can come up with. Youall know that fan criticism helps.

Bottom line, I'm enjoying Enterprise. But like Iz, I'm very much looking forward to Rangers and FarScape. I simply don't mind OD-ing on TV Sci Fi! It's like I love 70% chocolate, but I'll gladly share a Hershy bar with you!

A couple of days after watching the opener I happened to see a Classic ST ep. Spock was eating with his fingers. But then he is half human...

Trying not to post but failing miserably....

I like what I have seen so far. I like the ship, I like the crew, I like the tension with the Vulcans, overall I like it all.
I really like that they have problems translating the languages of other races.

I am trying to figure out what race was in the time flux thing in the first episode. I can't say I am thrilled that Enterprise started off with a time continum story (sigh) but I can live with that.

I think this is going to be a fun ride. And think about it, there is no way to for us to see Kirk. Gotta love life

I ppersonally thought it waw a good first planet ep. I am actually expecting to see this Cowboy exploration attitude for a little while. If they can naturally combine the cautions of the Vulcans and the go-get em attitude of the humans, then youll start to see the beginnings of the startfeet regulations that weve come to know in the other series. You cant just jump into the type of exploraion that is too rigid. I saqy they take their time. Its the mistakes trhat are fun to watch.

Phloxx....I'm still reserving judgment...but he seems to be getting a groove of his own.

I like what I see so far....it's hard to live up to the ST franchise.

"Civilization" --- Episode 8

Captain Archer and the crew discover a fully inhabited, civilized though less advanced Earth-like planet. Disguised to look like its inhabitants, they pay the planet an exploratory visit where they learn that a pernicious illness is afflicting the local population. As Archer seeks to help them find the malady?s source, he finds himself in a close encounter with a comely female alien.

Lets just see how the crew reacts in an intelligence or information gathering operation on a less advanced planet.

Then there was the love interest. Kirk could not have done better. This was, in my mind, an episode that truly was a fun, exploration type ep. Heck, we even had a space battle of a fashion. Which also turns me to T'Pol...MAN! Did that Vulcan have attitude , or what? "Wnjoy your tea"...LOL..."If they want the Anti-matter device, then we shall give it to them". What gusto.

Atleast the Tellerites were mentioned. Remember them? The miners. Anyway, I don't recognise these new species.
