I read the first book about 12 years ago and I loved it. The second book was ok. I couldn't finish the thrid one. Never tried the final one.
I just finished reading all four for the first time. Loved them all except the last one. Somehow I was expecting a better ending to the saga.
Adams style was totally reminiscent of Lewis Carroll's. I was constantly reminded of Alice in Wonderland.

Loved the first one when it first came out. It seemed to get harder and harder to follow subsequent books. May have had something to do with increasing responsibilities in grad school at the time! Still, I remember it as being awfully funny on several levels!

I'm trying to get them re-read now that I have them all in one volume. Got sidetracked when PollyMath showed up with the first two technomage novels.
Adams also wrote a book called Last Chance to See with Mark Carwardine. It's about endangered species. I didn't read it, I listened to it on tape several (eight) years ago when I was driving back and forth to school. I remember it as being interesting and entertaining but also sad.
Just my 2? worth.

To get the ? sign, hold down the Alt key and type in 0162 on the numerical keypad on you keyboard.

Anyone have a clue on how to create tables here? Start off with a tag of <table> and you get a whole lot of empty space before the table appears. I mean enough empty space that you have to hit the scroll bar 3 times to get between the top of the post and the bottom...

Can't tell you what to do in terms of copying it off the page and pasting it into something else for reference. Somehow Micro$oft Word will create tables for you, but I'm out of my element with that. If you paste it into Wordpad or Microsoft Word, select all and change the font to "Courier" to get most of it to line up.
When you want these symbols in the text of your post or document, you need to hold down the "Alt" key and using the number pad (<u>not</u> the row of numbers at the top of the keyboard...this can be fun for laptops) enter all four digits, then release the "Alt" key. If you make a mistake, just use the backspace key. If you are putting two in a row, release the "Alt" key after each symbol needed, then start the sequence again. Ok...here 'tis

Hmmm... I tried Alt + 0162 and all I got was that dumb,"You're wrong 'ding, ding'" from from MS. http://www.hostboard.com/ubb/frown.gif (I have Win 95, if that makes a difference.)

I'm not sure, but if you get the "ding, ding" with each digit pressed, you might be using the number keys along the top of the keyboard. That's what happens to me. Try the number pad (normally located to the right of the keyboard) and make sure the "Num Lock" is lit. I didn't get the ding tone from having the Num Lock off, but I definately did with the top row keys with the numbers. Just my 2? worth. http://www.hostboard.com/ubb/biggrin.gif
