How darling. How did they do that? How do you change the colors on these stoves? Would you use some kind of paint or just redo the finish?

LOVE the pink, love it! Says her husband re did it.....can't see any handle labels, bet it was painted over. Still, sure is lovely.

She says that it came that way. They found it at the local antique store and the store delivered it. It was the delivery that was the deciding factor. I think they redid the kitchen retro around the pink stove. Fun isn't it!

Sounds like noone in their neck of the woods had heard of a Chambers either.... but they sure knew about Rachael Ray.... seems as though Rachael was instrumental in the restoration of at least 1 more Chambers stove.... eh?

I would think that "primed it" refers to repainting it....no?
Whatever ws done to it, it's delicious looking! I still don't like what RR is doing to cooking nor that she abuses her stove.

I found out that the stove is the original pink color!

Define "original." Original as in it had pink panels before they bought it, or factory original?

I thought I read somewhere that Chambers might have offered pink porcelain in the late 50s, but that could be just misinformation I'm propagating.

It's definitely a late 50s model - burner with a brain, and (missing) script-type name plate that left three holes in the backsplash, instead of the two holes from the eaarlier plaque-type name plate. I also think I can make out the gas valve labels, and they're usually (though not always) lost when panels get new porcelain.

By the way, Ha, you have a great kitchen! Loved the slideshow you posted.

So, anyway, what's the deal? Did Chambers really make pink stoves, and if so, why hasn't one shown up on ebay in the last 14 months I've been watching? All the other colors have put in an appearance.

well, the woman who owns the pink said it was "original". it has labels above the handles, the silk screened ones as mine does. thanks for the nice words about my cookspace, i love it, so does peter.

Wow. I just went searching through the pink stove blog/gallery, and the pink surely looks original. Cool.

It does look original, but I don't see the Chambers logo on the left by the griddle handle?
It could be glare from the angle of the pic.
Although the gas knobs are clearly labeled. It more than likely came out in the late 50's early 60's. Remember the pink tile kitchen, bathrooms, Mary Kay bottles, etc..?? A marketing ploy to attract women and add color.

I remember seeing (or hearing about) a pink one about a year ago, so if wouldn't surprise me if Chambers made a limited quantity of these. Pink was very "in" during that era of the 50's (remember all the 'fridges??)

I think I got interested in having a vintage kitchen based on an article in i think it was country home or something, about a woman who found pink western holly stove and range sections on a tree lawn somewhere and just had to have them. She added a matching fridge she got cheap too from somewhere. Basically it all kinda fell into her lap. Man, that kitchen rocked! Anybody see it? I'm glad I did not know about the pink chambers, I might still be cooking in the electric frypan and the charcoal grill. Yikes.

PS I got my new shelves cut. Thanks to Tura for the template!! I don;t have the silverlite bracket attached right on the stove-right side, so the one shelf isn't in. But one is better than none! I can see the lighter now. (Which doesn;t stop me from standing on tip-toe and feelign around on top of the fridge.

PS 2 How'd I miss Ha & Peter's kitchen slide show? Boo hoo!

I e-mailed her about the website and this discussion group, but she has yet to reply. I also tried to post a reply in her blog, but it didn't "take".

Incidentally - I'm looking for one of those script logo's for the blue 61C I'm (slowly) getting ready for Lori. If anyone has one, let me know.

Hello all,

I'm Dave, the husband (of BlueCoyoteLaughing) who got the pink chambers up and running. We've been using it for over a year and love it. The pink is indeed original- it has the unmistakeable marks of a 50 year old kitchen appliance. Our "helpful" folks at the salvage yard took a hose to it before delivery and soaked the insulation. Rust began setting in immediately, so I wound up tearing the whole thing apart, removing the rust, and repainting the parts that needed it.

The picture that you all saw with the gap around the door was taken before I'd finished the work, so there's the explanation there.

If anyone is really curious, here are the other stoves we considered buying off of ebay, before we found ours locally.

Welcome! I saw your pink Chambers when I first started my Chambers hunt and was googling them obsessively. Very nice-- and the only pink one I've ever seen anywhere. Judging from the responses of all these folks on this forum, I'd bet that you have quite a rare treasure there.

You can find more info than you'll ever believe about maintaining or restoring a Chambers on this board. Folks here are incredibly helpful, too. Prepare to become obsessed, if you aren't already!
