Okay. I have a few questions. I want to get Tokimeki Memorial: Girl's Side, and I know that it has not come to America ( unfortunately >_> ) so I must buy an imported version. I've looked for the game on Ebay auctions hoping to find a few of them at a good price but there is only one auction and it's $60.00 plus shipping, which I don't have at the moment, but hopefully I should have some money after Christmas. Does anyone know a place where I can find the game for less?
My other question is, are there translations out there for the game? I can't read japanese so that would be a problem...but I really want this game! >_<
Any help would be much appreciated. [img]graemlins/heart.gif[/img]

I don't know if I can help, but I'll try...
First off, remember that you'll need to install a modchip on your console in order to play imports. Buying a modchip, installing it, and the modchip itself are NOT illegal, but you'll lose your warranty on the console.
I'm afraid I don't know where could you buy it (plus I don't live in the US, so if I knew of somewhere, it'd probably be in Spain).
As for translations, which kind of translation do you mean? A guide, or a game patch? The first would be easier, though I don't know if there's one for this game (I don't even know what's this game about to begin with ); the second would be much harder, as it'd require major hacking of the game, and you to dump it, patch and burn it with a CD Writer (or an expensive DVD Writer, if the game is in a DVD). You'd also need a modchip to play it.
-
First off, you'll need a Japanese PS2 to play that. Current modchips for PS2 are not reliable, and the risk is too high. I suggest you avoid it. Also, Tokimeki will NOT come out for US or Europe, so you must get JP PS2 for it.
The game is relatively new, so full translation is very doubtful. Dont expect much.
The price at ncsx is also $60, and personally, I prefer this place over anywhere else for online store.
-
Okay, thanks guys. Sheesh, I want this game really badly but it seems like I'm going to have to do a lot before I can even think about getting it.
I have a few more questions though...
IRT Miguel: Modchip? Do you mean the kind that allows you to play copied games on your console or a different one? Is this modchip expensive or very difficult to install? Would I be better off just buying a PS2 from Japan?
IRT Shiini: Not reliable you say? How so? Have they not been tested properly?
Do PS2's from Japan cost as much as they do here? And also, WHY exactly is there no chance of Tokimeki coming to America? I've never played the games before so...
-
I can answer both those questions with one answer. ^^
Modchips allow one to play copied games, as well as import games. It varies from $10-30, but import stores can do it for you. I got my DC modchip at Hyper Game Action nearby and they installed it for me for $30. If you want to play Japanese PS2 games, buy Japanese PS2, like I am planning to do. I checked Hyper Game Action, who are experts at these things, and they said they dont do PS2 modchips cuz it wont work at all, or kill your PS2.
Tokimeki = Dating Sim
Dating sims = No WAY IN Hell it will come out in US. Ive seen countless rumors, petitions, and hopeful discussions about releases for dating sim. Know any dating sims out on console right now? Its 99.9% likely that there wont be any dating games in US, and PS2 modchips pretty hopeless, so only way to play import games is to buy Japanese PS2. Currently, Japanese PS2 cost around $250-350. A bit pricy, considering games cost more too. >_<
-
Why doesn't the US want a dating sim on a console, what is so bad about them, I don't understand?
-
Casual gamers to harcore gamers ration (in US)
there are 250 kdis in my school, and I cna name 3 who are hardcore excluding myself. Trhats 246 casual gamers or not gamers at all, to 4 hardcore. and event hen the others aren't so hardcore. NO wya are dating sims gonna ever be broguth US
-
i have tokimeki rom for SNES, yet to be translated >_<

Hm, I see. Well, seems like I'm going to have to start saving my pennies. (^^);
Thanks for answering my questions Shiini.
-
No prob. I was in the same situation as you are right now. I saved enough for JP PS2, but I chnged my plans when I played Sakura Taisen.
[Another reason for JP PS2: Sakura Taisen 5]
-
thousand arms is kinda date sim-ish
-
Oh, Shiini, is NCSX an online store? I was just curious. You mentioned it and if I ever save enough to get the PS2 and the game I'd love to know where you reccommend getting it.
-
Yeah, I heard ncsx is the best from lots of people, and Im getting Sakura Taisen 1,2, and 3 from there next week. But dont get PS2 there though, I saw it marked as $350, while Hyper Game Action has it as $250.
-
Awesome.
Would you be so kind and give me the URL to those two sites? So, I don't forget them. Pretty please? [img]graemlins/heart.gif[/img]
-
ncsx
hyper game action
Pretty obvious, eh? ^^
-
Oh ya, I forgot to tell you. I dont know about Hyper Game Action online store cuz I buy there at local store nearby. Its reliable, but the games cost pretty high. =/
-
HISSSSSSSS! high prices are evil! >O
-
But I get discounts at the local HGA store, even though its not much.
btw, I asked my friend just now and confirmed HGA online store's reliability. Hes pretty trustworhy about these things. Just today, the HGA called him to let him know they have GGXX in stock. Amazing.
-
I said its reliable. Read, you young'un! ^^
-
NICE i wanna try that game when it comes out
-
*whistles* Whoo! Soooo many games! I want! >o<
That game 'Only you' looks great too. *sniffles* Must...save...up...soon...
-
yea me too =/ good thing i might get paid for some work i did this week
-
I was looking at hyper game action and they have a PS2 from Japan for $265.00, should I get it there? Is the store reliable? ='.'=
-
*rolls her eyes* Whatever you say, Mr. Old geezer, sir.
BTW, Shiini, I read you saying somewhere that you can read Japanese. How long did it take you to acquire that skill? Can an amateur like me somehow learn how to read Japanese?
-
About modchips:
I've heard the Messiah chip works fine if the guys at the store install it properly. There were many issues related to PS2 chipping, mainly because it supports a lot of formats and it's been specially designed to be hard to modify, so they can screw westerns with pricing, etc. Also, sony might have paid the media to recommend you to not chip your PS2. I didn't chip mine YET, but I see a lot of people with successfully chipped PS2 consoles.
About dating sims being released outside Japan:
I think a dating sim (only one, and a good one) would sell decently, even with a low hardcore to casual gamers ratio. Besides, people might just discover a new genre and start demanding it seriously. The experiment wouldn't cost too much - just a Japanses to English text translation (they can use Japanese voices for the first game) and they could win a lot.
-
I think the gaming industries here are way too cowardly for their own good. I say, at least try releasing one dating simulation game and see how things go, if it fails, well, at least they tried, if it suceeds then it's exactly like Miguel said, they could gain a lot and make a whole lot of fans happy.
*sighs* When will they see the light?! >_<
-
Exactly! And they make huge strategic mistakes far too often. I think it's because videogame companies are somewhat immature; and some have questionable, reckless, stubborn direction and directors (Tetsu Kayama from SEGA and past leader Isao Okawa come to my mind...). They are too eccentric, and distrusting on the western markets. I think they are somewhat chauvinist, that could be one of the reasons, if not the main one, why they are like that.
More people would play videogames and there would be more hardcore gamers if they were smarter, and most videogames, even PC ones, would be Japanese-styled, if not Japanese.
Anyways, I didn't want to take your thread this offtopic, sorry Mitsu-chan ^_^V
-
You truly are Wise, Miguel-kun. (^^)
And don't worry about getting off topic, it happens and at least we're talking about something, ne?
-
This is my 4th year studying Japanese. I learned some Chinese Characters when I was young, and sentence structure and some words are exactly same between Korean and Japanese, so it was pretty easy for me. If you have no background whatsover, it will be pretty hard. Learning foreign language is never easy.
-
Well, I'm up for challenges. Is there a book I can read or a certain class I can take to learn to read Japanese? Any tips?
-
Oh, thank you Mitsu-chan! I feel honored ^_^' .
-
Im taking Japanese classes at school, have Japanese friends, and reading/listening Japanese at home everyday.
First thing you should do when you want to learn Japanese is know katakana and hiragana. Those arent that hard, yet very important. Get a Japanese-English and English-Japanese dictionary. Getting a book might be a good idea, if you have no other source. But you gotta commit lots of time to it. btw, any special reason why you want to learn Japanese? That decides what kind of book you would want to get.
-
Aw, your welcome, Miguel! (^^)
Okay. So, is there a certain book to learn katakana and hiragana? There's really no special reason, I just want to learn and if I get the PS2 from japan and videos from japan I'm going to have to know how to read japanese anyway, right? =D
-
Will someone please tell me what a dating sim is exactly I mean yes a dating Simulation but what is it!?
Thanks.
Yea I am one who play games the shoot a lot, and other stuff like that... that is why I dunno what a dating sim is...
-
Dating sims are basically like this. You, as the main character, interact with other people [mostly girls] and try to find your special person. Or you can try to be a pimp and get all the girls yourself. ^^ Depends on each games. Some have more things to that, such as parameter status, or giant mechs.
If you buy a beginner Japanese book, its most likely to have those charts in it.
-
A 'Dating Sim' game is a type of role-playing game where the player takes on the part of high school student that, while trying to balance school work, athletics, grooming and whatnot, randomly meets some of the girls ( or guys in my case XD ) going to the school. The circumstances of each girl are different, and the player has to decide who to try to play for; the ultimate goal being that, upon graduation, receiving a confession of love from his girl or whatever. A successful pairing usually means the "winning" the game, though 'victory' may not always be what the player aims for, mainly if the player did not win the girl they desired.
So, it's complicated and yet they are soooo much fun to play! >o<
EDIT: Whoops, I guess Shiini posted before I did...oh well. ^_^V
