--maybe its because i've only heard DM songs that they play on the radio, i didn't even know that they had a sax and violin, i like it when bands use a variety of instruments. i think most kids don't know that there are more instruments that exist besides a guitar, bass, and drums. DM still bugs me but its cool you found an interest in them. have you heard of flogging molly? (another one of my favorite bands) they are a kick ass drunken Irish band, and i love that it includes a violin, banjo, mandolin, flute, and various other side instruments.
FLOGGIN MOLLY IS GREAT...
BUT LISTENING TO THEIR ALBUMS DOSENT DO JUSTICE TO SEEING THEM LIVE. THEY HAVE SO MUCH ENERGY.
they just kick ass all the way around.....and i love the Guinness drinking

By the way, I truly appreciate music. I earned my BA in music class of 2001 from Long Beach State University. I can appreciate the songwriting of the Dave Mathews Band and I can appreciate all of the accomplished musicians contained in that band. However, that doesnt explain why I cant stand to listen to them. From the looks of it, the only people who attend DMB concerts are muscle-flexing fratboys and twenty-something virgins with wet panties. To me, every DMB song sounds like the next. On top of that, what an incredibly obnoxious voice!
In regards to how impressed you are with the Sax and Violin players changing the solos every night, that is called IMPROVISING and anybody remotely proficient at an instrument should be able to do that 2nd nature. I play guitar and i almost always improvise solos. You teach piano? the idea of improvising should not be impressive to you either. Know your scales and what key your in and improvising is all in a day's work don't you think?

If your a Flogging Molly fan you should go pick up a pogues album.Flogging Molly is A cool band but they couldnt shine the Pogues shoes.

DMB is a good band for college girls to listen to on lonely friday or saturday nights when they can't get a date and want to sit around in floppy bunny shoes and eat chocolates.

there waw only one time that i thought i actually might like one of there songs and it turned out to be coldplay instead. well i do think it was cool that he did a song with blue man group, now they are an interesting band, pretty good too, i saw them in vegas.
Dave Matthews Band is great. They are full of talent and they are musical experts. A thing that I really love about them is that their sax player and their violin player almost never play the same solo twice, it's almost always diferent.
I guess only talented musicians and people who apreciate the intelegence of music like DMB like me and fag_johnson.
Improvising takes another talent and that is the underlying talent of knowing your scales, keys, and following the changes of the song itself like wolfpits said.
Hairy Larry I started putting on punk shows at 18, was hired by the founder of the warped tour at 19, and now I work for a indie radio promoter and go to music business school in Hollywood.
Music is my life and I see it for what it is. Just because it is music doesnt make it art bro and if you had any intellect at all you would understand that and you could get out of your teenage fantasies . You aren't 14 anymore see it for what it is . Don't even tell me that I dont love it or respect it. I have made sacrifices for it .

I am happy to see that you can improvise a talented musician can. DMB when they improvise it is perfect, they can get on stage and just start jamming something they never played before. I like this because I have yet to hear a band that can improvise better than them, also I have yet to hear a better drummer than Carter. I can understand that you don't like Dave's voice, it's kind of like people don't like Ness' voice.

You obviously don't care for the art of music and have never listened to anything that takes talent to play. People on this board have given DMB props for their variety and talent even if they hate them. And as far as fans go, most of my friends and people I know love DMB or at least appreciate them. And I have a varitey of friends punkers, alternative guys, ect.

I've met Gretschy, and I communicate with him outside this board via e-mail, and I can tell that he's going places in the music business, and he has connections. He's a cool guy, witty, humble, and has great taste. Better yet, he's putting himself out there. Unlike some people on this board who talk shit, and yes "hide behind their computer". Obviously, some people that post on here, are here to make friends, and some people are here to see how much shit they can stir up. Here's my analogy, and I know I'm opening myself up for a world of bashing.

Erica, I would say you're correct except for one thing. I don't talk shit because I'm angry with the world, I do it because of how funny the reactions are. I know I have a twisted sense of humor, but that is the real reason. As for the coward part, you're probably right about that too. If I was face to face with SickGirl, after I vomited from looking at her, I would probably be too chicken to actually say anything. I accept that I am a coward though, and will happily continue hiding behind my computer. Now, let's get back to some topics that aren't about talking crap. That is all.

Flogging Molly is a fucking great band in their own right, but the Pogues are legendary. If I Should Fall From Grace With God, Sick Bed of Cucuchlainn, Fairytale of NY, Irish Rover, Waltzing Matilda, Broad Majestic Shannon some of my favorites.
what kind of music is it exactly, folk irish (which i like to, drunken irish songs are the best especially when your drunk too)
punk irish, or scottish. either way i'll take your recommendation and check them out
Ahh, the pogues. I love those guys. the pogues are like flogging molly but 20 years ago. Truth is, when you listen to the newest flogging molly cd, it sounds like a direct decendant of the pogues. To the average listener, they are the same band. Of the recommended titles, i suggest "if i should fall from the grace of god". GREAT ALBUM!

Hey Wark, was Throwrag the opening band for Flogging Molly when you saw them in Houston, and if so, did you get a chance to check them out?

throw rag always opens for flogging molly it seems, they are an interesting band too, i always enjoy seeing them although they are not one of my top picks, but they put on a good, nearly naked show...i like washtub guy
no throw rag did not open, some band called the Blue Meanies (if I remember correctly) they were alright but not really my thing. I like bad religion, pennywise, fugazi, anti-flag, revolting cocks, face to face, operation ivy, agent orange, pulley, agnostic front, dropkick murphys, H20, and many more.......
I envy all you californians, I recently visited for the first time and fell in love. I was born in Michigan and have traveled half way around the world leaving me stuck in Texas (for now). But I belong in Cali. Houston's music scene is nearly nonexistent. It sucks! But anyways I saw a band called Automatic-Seven in Houston, they opened for D.R.I or maybe it was a punk-o-rama show but they were from the L.A. area and were alright. Anyone heard of them?
i though houstins music was pretty decent... i haven't been there in a while though...i was born in dallas but have lived here all my life. a lot of my family is still back there in san marcos and texarkana...i love san marcus, its sooo beautiful and i love the storms.
