So, it's my birthday, and I'm stuck at work. Ah, well, there's worse things, right? Like, I could not have a job. Hmm. Well, if we stipulate that having a job means having money, then having a job is definately a good thing. Even if I have to work on my birthday.
So, I'm kinda inspired by the bird's thread, so bear with me. If I miss anybody, you can assume I hate you. Or you can just say, hey, eris, what about me? and I'm pretty sure there'll be something nice to say about you.
Bran... it's all your fault. Totally.
Asis... I know we don't talk enough, but when we do, it's kinda like coming home, and knowing you're home.
GeekGirl... Are you sure you're not an alt? Cause you're just too cool to not be one of my alternate personalities.
Jely... cause you cheer me up by being bitchy even when I don't want to cheer up.
Bird... *chug* *chug* *chug*
Derico... cause you force me to keep in touch. I know yer not on the board anymore, and you might not see this, but hey, it's just a silly list, right?
5cats... yer weird, but you're a good guy. And I'll never forget that you were one of the first ones to make me feel at home here.
Crazya... I know, you're just too cool to be on a list of people I appreciate, but you're here. I honestly like you, and respect you, and I love it when you share your stories. So, thank you.
RichC... You're not the last romantic on earth. Really, truly.
JaceSan... Mr. Random. You don't say much, but when you do, it usually cracks me up.
Jaxom... It's been a good partnership. And really, one of us should maybe try to figure out how to trim the board without killing everything on it. Of course, if you want me to do it I will. Just remember the chaos field...
Ersby... the creator of the worlds very best threads. Or at the very least, the worlds very best thread titles.
See, the problem now is that there's so many of us gone. I know Jax says we all come back, and I certainly hope it's true. 9/11 rocked us in a fundamental way. We bickered, we argued, we said regrettable things. And then, when it looked like we might recover from it, Hostboard itself started dying on us... and restarting, and dying... until we finally lost our sister board, and the source of our newbies that kept us from getting bored with each other.
So, the board's changed a lot. Some good, some bad. There's a lot of people I miss. And I'm a different person than I was 3 years ago. I don't know if I'm better or worse or just different. Deep down, I kinda want to see the board become the magical place it used to be... but that would mean I'd have to go back to being the person I was three years ago. Of course, with some notable exceptions, it might almost be worth it.
But, it's my birthday, and I'm at work, and I'm rambling. We are the shit, you know. Other people can look at us and not realize it, but we truly are. And hey, what more can you ask from a cheesy message board?
-
*walks in, looking cool, cooler than the Icee polar bear, kisses Eris's cheek, getting a slight shock from her chaos field*
Happy Birthday, Eris! (And tell Dan happy belated birthday, too.)
-
Awwwww... Happy B-Day Eris!
-
Hey! How's it feel to be 21 again?
I hear what you're saying...and you know something...I still think we all come home again eventually...maybe I'll even get my real name back sometime...
And I'll look into the trimming the board thing too, but no promises...I still think I'm a better PR man than a nuts and bolts type of guy...
-
*thinks for a minute* Oh my god,I get it... You and 'Bird hate me!! Lists suck... and both of you suck.. I hate this board, how's that?! Makes you feel good huh?! Yeah well, you know how I feel!
All, kidding aside, I love this board and the people on it. That's why I keep coming back. For some of you, this is the only way I get to keep in touch, sorta. God, I really need to learn grammar... at least some things about me never change.
-
run/tackle/hug
Happy birthday girlfriend and right back at you. *hugs*
Sorry you're at work. Don't get stuck there.
The snow's falling down, the kitty cats are antsy, there' nothing on tv. And now you have gone and made me misty for the old times.
I remember when you were a brand newbie, you leapt in head first. I had no idea what to make of you. I'm glad you and your choas field became my friend. And if you are really nice to me I won't post those pictures of you argueing with the gargoyle. And uh, of other things...
-
Happy Birthday, eris!! You should trash one of the rooms, rock-star style, to celebrate. :)
-
To the Mod Extraordinaire-
Happy Birthday Eris!
(Tell everyone at work- maybe they'll buy you lunch! Seriously! They'll at least use it as an excuse for a long break or drinks!)
Many happy returns!
-
Happy Birtday!!
It's not all my fault. You're the one that started a non-topic thread over at SIP. I was just trying to keep Madia from banning you.
Very glad you came over and jumped right in. I know I'm not on the board so much and that I'm pretty much impossible to locate on IM (I miss those late night/early morning rambles with everyone), but I know I can always come here and see some of my fave people, even if it's not as often as I'l like.
-
Happy Birthday!!!!!
Wow, you were working on sunday??? AND birthday???
ykes.
A zillion oreos for ya!
-
Yeah, what ever happened to not working on Sunday?? I remember those days of nothing being open and you had to *gasp* SPEND TIME WITH YOUR FAMILY!!
Actually, this sounds like it'll make a good rant.
-
Spend time with my family? What a horrid thought! Of course, with most of my family in DC, except my brother, who's in Japan, that's not a problem.
Weird news department... my mom has informed me that she and my dad are retiring... and moving... to Belize. For no apparent reason. It's all good, though... this is the happiest I've heard my mother in absolutely years. So Dan and I will actually be going down to DC to meet my parents before they take off for parts unknown. This'll be the first time they've met. I'm just SO looking forward to it...
And honestly, I actually wouldn't have minded working my birthday, except that a) there was a full moon, and b) we had the national guard in. These are not a good combination! At least we didn't have any watermains break.
Just a frozen pipe that maintenance is fixing as I type this...
-
Thanks for the mention, eris. I knew I was doing something right. It's a shame that SiP upped and left, since that's damaged us more than anything. Actually, I haven't read SiP since the false ending. Has it got better?
And let's not forget that on a hard drive presently sitting on a shelf near my elbow is the first thread that eris ever posted. One day I shall post it again, and we can all go "awww, bless" at her tiny post count.
-
Happy Birthday Eris!

You and Bird hate me too
*sulks in corner*
-
You know, the hardest part of the list was figuring out in my head who's still around. It's actually kind of cool that I missed some names, that means I was wrong about who's not around anymore.
That's my story, and I'm sticking to it.
Oh, and Ersby... just how many threads *do* you have saved? I'll just bet you're a terror at family reunions... you're probably the one that brings the photo albums.
-
Hey Ersby, have I told you lately how much I adore you?
-
Oh, and Ers, I don't know if my opinion counts as far as SiP getting better since the false ending, because I rather liked the false ending story line, but SiP has, imo, been very very good lately.
-
SiP has had more of the kinda vibe it had at the start of vol. III if anyone is interested...
Hey, Eris...I bet our recent group of Domestic and Foriegn Missionaries tops your National gaurd group for weirdness and being pains in the ass...heh...
-
Yeah, but do you get rap stars and country music stars in the hotel in the same week?
Nope, not giving out any names, and didn't ask for any autographs, sorry...
-
I know what you mean Eris, it's much the same for me. But I'll never grow tired of you all. Not for long anyways.
And I'm a good of example of those who return. Not much, I agree, but I'm lurking and occasionally posting.
Anyways: Happy Belated Birthday.
-
Ersby: I also agree that SIP has been very good as of late. I rarely post at the new board, though. Just doesn't feel the same.
Oh, I want to see eris' first STP post. I can't remember it. I do have some threads saved. You can see eris' personality change as she got more demanding.
-
How could I possibly get *more* demanding? I just got less scared of ninja lesbians, that's all...

-
We're suppose to be afraid of Ninja Lesbians?!?
Crap! No one told me!
Did anyone foward the memo to me?

No, but sometimes I send myself an email with the same sentiments, and act surprised when I get it, so it all balances out.

I blame all the crashes last year, personally...

-
Happy belated birthday, Eris
I hope you're getting your wish. The board does seem to be picking up lately.
-
Happy (very belated) Birthday, eris! and Hello! to everyone else. Rumors of my death have been greatly exaggerated and all that. I blame Wil for my disappearance. But then, I always blame Wil.
*grabs herself some oreos and a spot on the couch happy to be home, if only for a visit*
-
mmmmm.... oreos...
You can't ever go home again, you can't ever be warm inside, without love, we're never more than...

-
It's a sad world when no one's afraid of ninja lesbians anymore...
But on the upside...
*GLOMPS Enlanra*
Glad to see you back.

Happy belated birthday, eris. Sorry you were at work, but hey, internet access at work means it?s not all bad. (Whadd?ya mean, life doesn?t have to involve the internet?)
*blush* Maybe I am your alt, because an alt of yours definitely has a much cooler life than the ins and outs of my days?
I adore all of you. Funny how for a group of people I know only within the context of my too-infrequent visits to this board, as I wander around IRL I think to myself, "the STPers would like that" surprisingly often. I?d be heartbroken if you weren?t here to come back to you.
Well, it?s been three years here for me, and I do remember Bran?s open invitation on the SIP board to come on over ? and that she and eris and AsIs made me want to follow. For all the people that have come and gone, STP is still a place to touch base, and I think we?ve seen enough boards come and go just on Hostboard alone, to know that it means a lot.
Everyone take care?
-
Ah, Geekgirl, don't feel bad. Sometimes I think my alts have more fun than me, too.
So, since we're all wandering back, and thank god for that, how many pakages of oreos do you need to have a proper oreo orgy, anyway? And what *kind*? I personally prefer the old fashioned kind, sort of a simple back to basics kind of thing, but at the same time, I do acknowledge that those other sorts exist...

There's a limit???
-
That depends. How much money do you have on you?
-
Ugh. OK, so I live in Michigan, right? Where it snows a lot right? Like, where snow is no big deal, right? So why can't my coworkers seem to figure out that if there's snow, they might have to get up a little early and DEAL WITH IT? GAH... had to stay two hours late at work today, and really, I don't like my job THAT much. Maybe it's a Sunday morning thing. I have become convinced of a plot to drive me crazy. I think it's being spear headed by the restaurant manager... I think he heard me saying bad things about their cherry omelettes. It's not my fault that cherry omelettes are every bit as bad as they sound...
-
HEY! Be nice to your local Hotel Restaurant Manager! F&B isn't all it's cracked up to be and we're thin skinned! Yeah...that's it...yeah...
Hey if it helps, my restaurant is being closed by the end of March...I get to be consolidated back into the other one and let the managerial power struggles commence! or something like that...
-
Man that sucks. I have to say, though, there is a mind set to the people that work in F&B. They can absolutely awe you with their ability to remember your name, what you like to drink, what you usually order... they can swing those huge platters around over their heads like they don't weigh anything at all, they can recite a two page list of daily specials and never miss a beat, they can calculate their tip at 15% and 20% in their heads within 5 cents....
And yet, they just can't seem to grasp the fact that THEY NEED TO GET THE MONEY FROM THE GUEST FOR THE MEAL. No, really. It's not uncommon to see the cash $200 off... either over or under. They can never quite comprehend that we need those credit card receipts in case the guest disputes, and as far as local billing goes? Nightmare city, man, nightmare city...
BUT... When I leave this place this morning, and leave it I will, my weekend will start, and not a moment too soon. GAH!
Where's the great penguin when you really need him?
